Dkh I hope you can come :)
Actually the Unity adventure thing is possibly do-able there is an entire book by Sue Blackman ( update due out March) which is a start to finish adventure game making tutorial. I don't know if it's any good yet as I might wait for the update!. I have a feeling that there's been a couple of unity powered adventure games. I will chase that up.

Oh yes, I was meaning to ask, which book was that? I've found some others on Google books that were coming in handy.

There seemed to be plenty of questions about using Blender for making backgrounds when I showed Technobabylon, so that might be something worth expanding on next time as well!

Right here are the fruits of my obnoxious photo taking http://www.flickr.com/photos/aralego/sets/72157632267523951/ . I just want to thank everyone for being awesome! ( shout back to AGD and m0ds. At some point I'll write more, but right now I am utterly pooped out.

And here's some of the fruit of *my* photo-taking.

I enjoyed that! Kind of like how I'd imagine Uplink would look if it was an adventure.

Right, well, it's been a while since anyone's posted in this thread, but I promise I have a good reason. It's appropriate, too!

See, I've been working on ths projecty kind of thing, and since I'm not the most objective judge of my own stuff, I wondered if anyone felt like helping me test it to make sure it works before I go giving it out to all and sundry?

Much obliged!

I think I've officially made the transition from "make-believe developer" to "cargo-cult developer" by finally cobbling together a new website for Technocrat Games! So, for all of your up-to-date information on those tedious affairs I make, and the new place to download games from, head over to the official site!

All feedback is appreciated. Also, I'm in the process of putting together a list of links on the left-hand side of the page, if anyone wants me to point visitors in the direction of their own site/blog.

I look forward to seeing it at AdventureX!

Haha, you can always quote me...I'm assuming the word "cutest" probably isn't something a game designer considers a compliment?  I assure you it was though...;)  I absolutely loved it.

I tend to give up quite early on a lot of projects, so getting all the way to the end. I've also gotten rave reviews of things that, in retrospect, seem to me like they could/should have done with a great deal of improvement. Building the games is in itself a developmental learning experience!

General Discussion / Re: Fun with synonyms...

Hm, these are good ideas so far! There's going to be more detail later on, but here's an example of the kind of things I've got in each category at the moment -

People/Individuals/Folk
Regis, Charles M. - CEL case officer assigned to central districts of the city. Has worked for the organisation for the past twenty-six years, and while not making a great effort to be liked by his associates, his results cannot be argued with.

Locations/Places/Tourist sites
Newton's Cradle - An independent city-state in the Horn of Africa, Newton's Cradle was originally developed as a free-trade port by a number of surrounding nations. Thanks to its relaxed ethical approach, it was able to excel in a number of political and economic, eventually aligning itself with an association of similar city-states around the world. Currently one of the wealthiest geopolitical entities in the world despite its relatively minor size, it is governed by an elected council representing city wards, and a secondary council representing the operational services of the city under Central.

Organisations/Groups/Associations
CEL - The city's Centralised Emergency Logistics organisation, or "CEL", is the body responsible for all civic emergencies within the city. Nominally divided into "Enforcement" (handling peace enforcement and criminal investigation) and "Rescue" (covering fire, ambulance and disaster relief), there is a great deal of overlap between the duties of a CEL officer, and many corpsmen may find themselves in different work depending on needs.

Technology/Science/Inventions/Research
Wetware - As the science of nanotechnology progressed, the fields of physics, computing and biology became blurred into one another. Rather than metal and machinery, the building-blocks of nanotechnology are proteins and nucleic acids, not unlike those found in the human body. Wetware is the genericised term for this 'machinery' in its fluid suspension, and is used in purposes ranging from medicine to entertainment. By default, wetware exists in an unprogrammed state until given instructions from an outside source, when it will specialise itself and begin its assigned task.

Society/Groups
Neo-Nihilism - a disturbing social trend among the youth of the city, Neo-Nihilism arose from a wilful misunderstanding of philosophers such as Nietzsche and Kirkegaard, and has presented in widespread public acts of self-destruction. While technically seeking to draw attention to the perceived futility of action in a post-scarcity society, many media observers have suggested that it is simply today's manifestation of adolescent rebellion.

It was one of the cutest games I've played in a long time.

Can I quote you on that for the website? ;)

Critics' Lounge / A bunch of characters...

Right, before I get around to making them walk, I just wanted to see what your opinion on these characters was. With any luck, I can go from there to make it walk more nicely!

It's common everywhere not just AGS. Some people still use XP for instance (on here, probably the same culprits that still use 2.72)

XP? So soon? I'm not sure I'm ready to move up from Win95. It hasn't even been twenty years yet. :=

I still have Windows 3.1 on my computer.

I'm converting a game to being a talkie, and I was wondering about the following in translation files. I have this:

&9 Well, the desk, the tweed jacket, the attitude.
Naja, der Schreibtisch, die Tweedjacke, die Haltung.

My question: does the German line also need the &9, or will it locate the voice file based on the &9 in the English line?

Stuck on last robber.

Spoiler

Setup the hose, try to turn on the car, and get the response: "There's something I'm forgetting."

Obviously we need to get Susie out of the gas station BEFORE taking out the last robber.  How?

Spoiler
Getting Susie out isn't the problem, but Nancy should only be saying that if all three robbers have been dealt with. Which colour robber is left over?

Is there a walkthrough for this game?  I had been trying to figure it out and got frustrated & finally gave up.  I've read all the hints thus far but am stuck close to the beginning.  I really love this game though and I'd like to finish it!

Spoiler
I'm trying to make the pot from the grass (I know the geek wants some) but no clue how.  I got the sprinkler system to come on but don't know what to do from there.  I can't even get into the bathroom and don't have a CLUE how to go about that.

I promise I've been following this post (or was) but I'm still stuck.  I don't want subtle hints, I want to know what to DO.  Anyone up for helping me?  (Please)

Sarah

Spoiler

Make sure you've got the matches from Susie, the alcohol from the trunk of the car or behind the counter, and picked up the grass from outside. Look at the ladder to the roof, then talk to Susie, and ask her for a boost. On the roof, put the alcohol into the barbecue, and light it with the matches. Use the grass with the barbecue to dry it to make it look like cannabis.

Hope that helps!

I think the issue of large sizes was related to download speeds, but now that more people have a faster connection (and it no longer requires two hours and my phoneline to download), they're probably amenable to larger games these days. My games seem to be getting smaller, as I figure out how to more effectively use lower-colour graphics!
#117
I certainly plan to. I'm engineering the voiced version of Nancy to sell, and then I just have to set up my website for e-commerce.

General Discussion / Fun with synonyms...
Fri 16/11/2012 17:57:51
For one of my current projects, I'm building an in-game glossary for people to refer to for background information on the world. It's got five categories:

People
Locations
Organisations
Technology
Society

Together, the first letters of those would make the acronym "PLOTS", but I'd rather give it something a little more...dynamic-sounding. I'd considered "PILOT" (Places, Individuals, L, Organisations, Technology), but that leaves me with the problem of not being able to find a word for "Society" that starts with L. Perhaps someone who's learned English more recently than I might be able to come up with an idea, or even a different acronym using those five concepts?

I'll just add my thanks to everyone who got it!
