Chris Jones of AGS land will be making a guest appearance on Sunday. He only cost $500,000. Oh no wait, that was a tunnel in transport tycoon.

The man himself?!  :o   Well then, I shall definitely atte...oh wait I'm already coming

On a tidally-locked world, the only way for resources to be moved under the deadly sun is by high-speed train. The management refuse to automate it entirely - after all, then there'd be nobody to blame when things go wrong - and it's been your uneventful duty for the past several years to see the train back and forth along:

THE RAIL

So naturally, things are going to go wrong on your watch. Things like, oh, maybe hijacking? And bombing? And all of the above?

Featuring:
- a train
- a man
- animations
- another man
- a desert
- guest starring Castle Bravo as itself.

An exercise in art and timekeeping practice, I decided to try this as an effort to prove that I could, and to take my mind off Technobabylon, because I really wasn't pleased with how that was going.

So, since I've been sticking to my plan, the game is essentially finished. Barring music, it'll be complete on Sunday, four weeks and two days after starting on it. And I intend the first place for people to be able to play it to be AdventureX, on the 17th of December.

So, yes, anyone fancy giving it a test-run after Sunday, for an objective opinion on the matter?

There was something I was watching recently, what was it...?

Ah yes, Source Code! Having the situation repeat over and over and enabling the player to get a bit farther next time by having a greater understanding of what's going on, that strikes me as the kind of thing that'd work in an adventure.

Hang on, didn't Warthogs already do that?

The good old Ruchnoy Protivotankovyy Granatomyot 7. Contrary to popular opinion, "RPG" doesn't stand for "Rocket Propelled Grenade", it's just a "Handheld Antitank Grenade".

Oh, the games. Well, I think that it varies depending on the generation. My favourite SNES RPG was Shadowrun, but I think that Deus Ex would have to be my favourite example on the PC. The results of upgrades to JC feel more tangible, whereas RPGs like Baldur's Gate are essentually stats and graphs running behind the scenes.

Oh yeah, also Ultima Underworld. First person is apparently my thing!

Can do, tomorrow morning!

For me, the main problem causing the surprised look is the use of light pixels around the eyes. With a relaxed expression, you don't see the whites of the eyes over/under the irides.

I also changed the size of the face/head, because it seems a tad too small for me.

After I finished the first version, I noticed it looked rather more butch than your sprite, so I tried to give him a more boyish look. The last one is supposed to be something inbetween the first two.

Hope this is of some use...

Edit: Looking at it again, I like the hair of your sprite rather more than that of mine. Much cleaner and easier to read!

Ahhh, I like what you've done with the shape of his face as well, I'll implement that into the animation I've been working on for him as well! I think he's probably going to end up looking more like the third face along. Many thanks!

So, this chap, I'm mostly quite satisfied with him, but because of the size of his eyes, I can't seem to twiddle the pixels to give him a look of anything but abject horror or shock. I can't quite seem to get his hair to match up in the absoute side view with what I expect it'd look like compared to the front views. What would be your advice?

General Discussion / Ow, my brain.

...or, epilepsy strikes again. Every so often, I get afflicted with a crippling bout of deja vu and hallucination, which tends to put my sleeping schedule out of whack - just as soon as the world stops melting, and the orange snakes go away, that is. Looks like it's another six months before I'm driving again, then! (as long as I tell the DVLA about it, that is)

So, I thought it might be interesting to see if anyone else on here was similarly afflicted with epilepsy. After all, some of my best plot ideas have come from hallucinations, so it must be at least slightly helpful to the creative juices!

I'd jump on board and support Child's Play as well if it does end up as a charity donation rather than contributing to the maintenance of the community. Helps generate exposure for AGS within the gaming society at large, as well.

If we've got twice as many people joining in as bakers than expected, how about splitting the games into (at least) two different batches, and dealing with distributing the newer ones later on? Or, (and I have absolutely no idea of the technical implications of this) making a "pick and mix" system, whereby buyers choose a set amount out of the selection.

I didn't say they were good ideas, just clearing out my brain.

My brother's started using it on the Windows partition of his Mac, and he keeps complaining to me about all the things they've changed. Apparently, it'd be a lot more intuitive if his computer had a touch-screen.
#254
I imminently plan on using my brother as a guinea-pig for rotoscoping. There's going to be *a lot* of hilarious falling over, but I don't quite know how much of that a sci-fi game will actually need.
#255
How about spending the proceeds on advertising? Like bribing publications to mention AGS a whole lot. Then we can ensnare more untapped minds for the glorious hegemon.
#256
Another stalwart contribution to the non-adventure club on AGS!

Looks like they've captured the feel of Curse of Monkey Island!

Sure. Just so long as you answer yes to these three questions:

1) "Do you pinky swear that you can have the game done by mid December?"

2) "Will you be willing to donate said game (temporarily) to a fund-raiser from which all proceeds are intended to be spent on an AGS server"

3) This is an official, grown up endeavor, involving money and everything. Are you at least the age of 18?

If you can handle that level of responsibility, then yes. Welcome aboard.

Mid-December? I'm fairly sure I could have something done in four weeks. Maybe I should stick all the bits I've got from unfinished games together to make a complete thing!

So, 1) Can do
      2) FOR THE GREATER GOOD
      3) Plus six! (not to self - stop getting older)
#259
So, is it still possible for people to climb on board with this? I'm sure I've got all kinds of ideas just leaking out of various orifices.

If I can stick to my current timetable (of which I'm on day 5), I should have a testable version by next Friday.

Looking forward to it. If you need anymore testers then PM me up  :D (although, you probably have enough of those).

I vote against combining Part 4 and 5. That means I will have to wait longer for my Technobabyfix   :(

You placed a timetable of how you're going to work on the game on your blog:

Blog Post

But the image is too small and I cannot read the text :'( is this intentional to conceal spoilers? I would love more of an insight into how you operate in order to crank out the games as quickly as you do?

Quickly? I've taken six months on this one!

Should be faster with the new system, though. The secret to getting them done quickly is - no social life!  ;D

And yes, it's intentionally small for spoilers. Maybe I'll do a more in-depth (but spoiler-free) version for the next one, for all to see!
