You couldn't get enough of it last time! And it's coming to get you again. If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, itt's...

Time for the Annual Look at Future Movies, with your host, TerranRich!

(For last year's Look at Future Movies, clickaroonie!)

Here are the movies scheduled for release from 2007 onward! If you know of any movies I've left out, or wish to add to what I've posted below, please feel free to do so. I will list the main actors, plot, and organize them by year of release, starting with...

2007

American Pie 5: The Naked Mile
The movie will shift its focus on Adam Stifler, the cousin of Matt and Steve...
Oh, come on now. What next, Crazy Cousin Larry Stifler, the drug-addicted nutjob that lives in his grandparents' basement? It's stretching it now.

Andre: Heart of the Giant
A poor young farm boy from Grenoble, France struggles with his ever growing proportions...
Being a pro wrestling fan, this is a must-see for me. I can't wait to see how Rokki James Hollywood plays the devious Vince McMahon. :P

Believe It or Not
Believe It or Not picks up with Ripley at the time when he gained celebrity status through a "Believe it or Not" column that chronicled his search for the greatest oddities in the world...
Jim Carrey is in talks to play Robert Ripley. Interesting.

The Butterfly Effect 2
Sequel to the 2003 cult movie in which a person can change the past via remembering their forgotten memories due to blackouts.
The last movie ended and all ends were tied up, I thought. And what, no Ashton Kutcher? What is this, The Fast and the Furious 2 and 3? ;)

Castelvania
This movie focuses on the origin of the eternal struggle between the Belmont clan and Lord Dracula.
Neat! Jonathan Frakes, of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame, is rumored to play the part of the Grandfather. Nothing else, though. I've played the video games before, though briefly.

CHiPs
The adventures of two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers as they make their rounds on the freeways of Los Angeles.
Woohoo! This is one show-turned-movie I can't wait to see. I never watched the series, but Wilmer Valderrama as Erik Estrada's character? GOLD, I tell ya.

Cinderella III
The evil stepmother conjures up a spell that reverses all of which the fairy godmother did. Everything that she had made (the dress, the horses and the carriage) which were the reasons why and how Cinderella went to "The Ball". So when all the magic is gone will there be a happily ever after all? What will Cinderella do?
What will she do? Keep making sequels, perhaps? Note to Disney: Stop making sequels to old classics! Leave them be and create new ones instead.

Day of the Dead
When the world is overrun by the flesh hungry dead a small group of survivors head to an underground military bunk in a last ditch effort to stay alive.
Mmmmmbbrrraaaaaaaiiiiiiiinns!!

Delta Farce
Three bumbling Army reservists bound for Iraq are accidentally dropped at Mexican village besieged by hostile forces.
Anything starring two of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys (Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy) HAS to be magic in the making. I don't care who ya are, that's funny right thar!

Die Hard 4
The heroic John McClane (Willis) comes out of retirement to take down an Internet-based terrorist organization.
Retirement? More like a nursing home. Old Man McClane battles Alzheimer's and cataracts to fight terrorism once again! Osama, watch out now!

Dirty Harry (VG)
I reported on this game last year, but I saw previews of it on G4 TV's E3 coverage, and I must say, it looks damn good. I forgot what console(s) it's coming out for. Probably PS3, Wii, and X-Box 360. Meaning I gotta get some money saved up for one of those. Most likely the 360.

The Dukes of Hazzard 2 (V)
Teenaged cousins Bo and Luke Duke spend their first few weeks in Hazzard County get into trouble running outlawed liquor in order to save their Uncle Jesse's farm
Sequel to show-turned-movie. Not the original main actors. Straight to video. 'Nuff said.

Evan Almighty
God (Freeman) contacts Congressman Evan Baxter (Carell) and tells him to build an ark in preparation for a great flood.
Steve Carell returns as Evan Baxter. This time, I don't care that Jim Carrey isn't in it. He's an amazing comedic actor and I can't wait to see this. Last year I reported this as "Bruce Almighty 2", formerly "The Passion of the Ark". But I think "Evan Almighty" fits it perfectly, being a sequel and all. :D

Fahrenheit 451
A man whose job it is to burn all books questions his actions after meeting a peculiar young woman.
Just like 1984, this was a book I loved, for its dark view of the future. Definitely seeing this one.

Fahrenheit 9/11½
In the wake of the 2004 United States Presidential election, Michael Moore continues to examine what happened to the United States after September 11...
Yes, I know I reported on this last year, but it deserves mentioning again. Say what you want about Michael Moore, I like his stuff.

Fantastic Four 2
Jessica Alba...DROOL...

Fraggle Rock: The Movie
The Fraggles go to Outer Space, far from Fraggle Rock and head on the adventure of a lifetime.
Dance your cares away, worry's for another day. Let the music play, down at Fraggle Rock!

Futurama (V)
Straight to video (V)? WTF? I want this in theatres! NOW DAMMIT!

Ghost Rider
Based on the Marvel character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to become a hellblazing vigilante, to fight against power hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself.
Cool. Based on a comic book character, starring Nicholas Cage as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider, Eva Mendes as Roxanne Simpson.

Grand Theft Auto IV (VG)
As announced at E3 (I think). Woohoo!

Hairspray
Pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.
A remake of the 1988 movie. John Travolta as Edna Turnblad? Wasn't that the mother? I hope I'm mistaken...

Halo 3 (VG)
You take the role of mastercheif yet again in the epic conclusion to the halo trilogy/saga.
Yup, definitely getting a 360 now.

Harold and Kumar Go to Amsterdam
Leaving where they left off in the first one, perennial stoners Harold and Kumar head to Amsterdam so the two of them can engage in more adventures just as Harold pursues his budding romance with Maria.
Well, the first movie made me hungry for White Castle burgers, although there are none around where I live. Will the second one make me hunger for Amsterdam pot? :P

Hitman
Gun-for-hire Agent 47 (Diesel) is hired by a group known as "The Agency" to kill targets for cash.
Vin Diesel as an agent that kills people? Refreshing change of character for him.

Homey the Clown
Apparently, Homie DOES play that. Damon Wayans reprises his In Living Color role of Homey the Clown.

Indiana Jones 4
I may be biased, but I'm curious to watch this one.

Kung Fu High School
An action/comedy set in a high school where cliques and gangs each use different styles of martial arts.
This one caught my eye. No cast yet, but it does sound hilarious.

Max Payne
On a personal mission to avenge the deaths of his wife and child, a troubled DEA cop is framed for murder and finds himself being hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation.
I probably reported on this last year, but this does look like it might be good.

Mighty Mouse
Update of the classic cartoon about a mouse superhero who protects his rodent brethren from the tyranny of the cat menace.
Heeeere I come to save the daaaaayyy! Might Mouse is on his waaaaayyyy, it seems.

Monkey's Paw
A man comes home with an artifact that is rumored to grant any wish ... at a price.
I might see this, if only for one strange reason. My cousin Phil used to tell all of us (me, my sister, and our younger cousins) the story of the Monkey's Paw. It eventually involved a door in his basement, which apparently was the Doorway to Hell. It led to Canada. :P

Mortal Kombat: Devastation
Earth's mightiest warriors: Lui Kang, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, and Lord Raiden must fight another evil force bent on the devastation of our world.
Devastation? Yeah, that's what I'll feel if this movie flops.

The Number 23
A man (Carrey) becomes obsessed with a book that appears to be based on his life but ends with a murder that has yet to happen in real life.
Another Jim Carrey movie. Sounds interesting.

Ocean's Thirteen
The continuing criminal exploits of Danny Ocean and his crew of crooks.
OMFG SRSLY WTF! Leave it the f*** alone already, Hollywood! Coming in 2054... Ocean's Thirty-Seven-and-a-Half.

Old School 2
Mitch, Beanie and Frank return for more laughs as they open the fraternity doors to a new generation of college students.
Assuming this doesn't flop (which it can't, thanks to Wilson, Ferrell and Vaughn reprising their roles), this should be awesome. Once it hits your mouth...it's so good!

Pac Man
Um...what? Dammit, I'm not watching this until they release the long-awaited Pong movie! Bleep! ... Bleep! ... Bleep! ... BONG! ........ Bleep!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Elizabeth is captured by the pirate Sao-Feng, while more problems surface and other rescues must be staged.
Never saw the first two, but heard they were good. Oh, and it spawned a whole flock of Jack Sparrow fangirls.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
ased on the video game, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.
No. I want a movie based on the first two PoP games, where he has to jump on ledges, drink potions, open doors, and avoid spikes and fallen debris. Oh, and fight random dudes.

Rambo IV
Vietnam vet John Rambo is forced to emerge from his reclusive lifestyle and take justice into his own hands after a girl goes missing
No. Just...no. Stallone will be 61 YEARS OLD when this movie comes out!

Revenge of the Nerds
A remake of the 1984 comedy classic about a group of nerds and outcasts who form their own campus fraternity, to compete with the bullying football frat that dominates the college campus.
What you say? COUNT ME IN!

The Ring 3
Samara returns with a familiar video tape to strike terror again in the third film of the Ring franchise, The Ring 3.
Hmm. Okay. Again, never saw the first two, so I can't talk about this one.

Rush Hour 3
While in Paris, Lee and Carter inadvertantly get mixed up with the Chinese Triad crew.
Do yooouu understaaaand the wooords that are comin' outta my MOUF??! No? Neither do I.

Save the Last Dance 2
Sequel + Not the Original Cast = Recipe for Failure. Or crappiness. You know, the first movie was great, it was actually the first DVD my parents ever bought, having finally given into the DVD craze and eschewed our VCR. But a sequel? Blech.

Scared Straight
As part of the crime-prevention program Scared Straight, a governor's delinquent son is sent to prison for what's to be a short period of time.
Wow. In all seriousness, I was JUST thinking about this movie, when I was into the D's and E's of these movie. It was a random thought, that they should make another show. Now it's a movie. If you don't know what Scared Straight is, look it up. It's a program where troubled teens visit a real prison, where the prisoners scare the shit out of them, in the hopes that they're scared straight, hence the name.

Shrek the Third
When Fiona's dad dies Shrek is supposed to take the crown but Shrek doesn't want the responsibility. So Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Puss look for a new King. And so far King Arthur is the best they have.
LOL. I loved Shrek 2. Finally, a plot to put with the movie. Sounds great. :D

The Simpsons Movie
Hah! There's now a quote from the trailer up on the page. All the voice actors are currently recording dialogue for the movie. Eeeeeexcellent! ;)

Sin City 2
It's one of those hot nights, dry and windless. The kind that makes people do sweaty, secret things. Dwight's thinking of all the ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb gray hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to cut loose. Just to feel the fire. One more time.
Sweet. I loved the first movie.

Spider-Man 3
J. Jonah Jameson Jr. returns from a mission from space with mysterious sample. This sample bonds itself to Peter Parker and gives him enhanced powers along with a new suit. Using his new found powers Peter must face the second Green Goblin, Harry Osborn after Harry discovered Spider-Man's true identity. Eventually Harry seeks help from Sandman, a new villain who was transformed due to radiation from an atomic bomb being tested.
* TerranRich jumps up and down and claps with unrestrained glee!

Tekken
Based on the #1 selling video game, "Tekken" is a high-octane action movie about a young man who discovers he holds a great power and must battle a team of elite fighters who will stop at nothing in order to get it from him.
More videos games turned into movies. When will they release a Grand Theft Auto movie!?!?!?

The Three Stooges
Last year I reported this movie as being centered around three women in some stupid scenario. This time around, the plot has been wiped and nothing is listed for it, other than the Farrelly brothers. That's how I know it's the same project as last year's. I wonder if they realized that their original idea was utter crap and decided to scrap it in favor of something...reasonable?

"Untitled Star Wars TV Series"
A live action television series set between Episodes III and IV.
Live action! Nice! I might tune in for this one.

Under Siege 3: Plane Danger
Casey Ryback is sent on a mission to take out Muslim terrorists who have taken over a flight from Israel to USA.
Steven Seagal should just die. Seriously. He's monotonous in his character deliveries, and I just hate him. It's like he never loses or never gets hurt anywhere. Like seriously, you're going to sit there and tell me that there is NOBODY that can at least hurt Seagal's characters? Pfft.

Underdog
A lab accident gives a hound named Shoeshine some serious superpowers -- a secret that the dog eventually shares with the young boy who becomes his owner and friend.
Theeeere's no need to fear, Underdog is here! :D

2008

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
The Pevensie siblings return to Narnia, where they are enlisted to once again help ward off an evil king and restore the rightful heir to the land's throne, Prince Caspian.

Ghostbusters in Hell
The Ghostbusters discover a portal in New York City that leads to hell itself, and they must travel through it in order to save the world.
What the hell? Pardon the pun. But wasn't the last movie, like, 15 years ago?

Halo
After they crash-land on an artificial ring-world called "Halo", a marine captain, his surviving marines, and a genetically-and-surgically-enhanced supersoldier called "Master Chief" must find out what the Covenant, the genocidal alien race they are at war with, are looking for on the ring. However, Halo holds more secrets than either side imagined.
About damn time! I cannot wait for this movie to come out!
Trivia: Alex Garland was paid $1 million by Microsoft to write an adaptation of the popular game. Microsoft then sold the script to Universal for $10 million.

LMAO, for some reason.

The Incredible Hulk
Wasn't this already a movie? Apparently the working title was Hulk 2, but it was scrapped for a more similar-sounding title.

Iron Man
Based on the Marvel Comics character, an accident leaves alcoholic billionaire Tony Stark to create a suit of armor to save his life.

Jurassic Park IV
Wheeeeee!!

Knight Rider
Based on the 1982 series of the same name, a lone crime fighter battles the forces of evil with the help of his indestructible and artificially intelligent car.
More Hollywood remakes than you can shake a carburetor at!

Madagascar 2
Looks like all of the original cast are in for this sequel.

Metal Gear Solid
Here's hoping this movie won't make us "feel asleep!" ;) (Original Metal Gear reference)

Scary Movie 5

Sin City 3
On a dark night in Sin City, an ex-Navy SEAL named Wallace saved a young woman, Esther, from killing herself. After a night on the town, she was kidnapped by mysterious people. May God have mercy on those who stand in Wallace's way...
Wow, the plot for this one is already fleshed out.

The Smurfs

Star Trek XI
Hopefully this one won't suck. Pleeeeaaase???

Terminator 4
Arnie needs to do some heavy working out if he intends to reprise his robotic role in two years.

Toy Story 3
Buzz Lightyear is recalled to a factory in Taiwan, and the rest of his toy pals go to rescue him.
I think this was the same plot as outlined in last year's Look.

Untitled Batman Begins Sequel
Batman, DA Harvey Dent, and Lt. James Gordon battle against the villainous Joker.
Wait, wait, wait, wait just a minute. So this is a sequel of a prequel of a sequel of a movie that had a villain in this movie? My head. It hurts.

2009
Captain America
Unassuming Army officer Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals.
LOL, I just can't get the Robot Chicken episode out of my head where Ted Turner becomes Captain Planet. I know it's a completely different character, but for a minute I thought it was the same. :P

The Jetsons
No info available due to IMDb's Nazi-like control over information.

Untitled Superman Returns Sequel
ENOUGH with the sequel-prequel-sequels!!!

And that's it! Discuss! :D

My site, xylot.com, is gone for God-knows-how-long thanks to a corporate takeover of my web host, who had also taken care of my domain name registration. To make a long story short, now some German company apparently handles it and won't respond to my [English] emails.

Anyway, I'm going to register www.xylot.net now and just start over (which isn't too big of a deal for me). Thing is, I want to register the domain name separately from the web host (in case this happens again, or I find a cheaper web host than the one I have, but still want my domain name). i've been looking into Yahoo! for my domain name and maybe OneDollarHost.net for web hosting.

Anyway, how would subdomains work? If I have xylot.net point to the IP address of my web site, then how would I go about setting up subdomains (like bts.xylot.net or themes.xylot.net? Would that be on the part of the domain registrar, or the web host?

Okay, I'm seriously stuck in Circque de Zale. How do I actually get out of the crazy grandma's house? I can't find the way out. It's weird.

I don't want to say that I'm a skeptic, because that carries with it a negative connotation. But I'd like to call myself a realist.

That is, until a few nights ago.

My girlfriend, Andrea, has lately had the ability to say what I was thinking. I have a stuttering problem, so sometimes I don't end up finishing sentences (rather I take a long time to do so), but before I can finish, Andrea will just say what I was about to say. And there usually aren't any hints in the context of what I'm saying to let her know what I will say next. She claims to have the sporadic ability to read my most outward thoughts (mainly things I'm about to say).

That's all good and well, and I would kind of pass it off as her thinking she had this ability, but instead being able to think quickly on her feet.

Then, a few nights ago, while laying in my bed, I voiced my slight jealousy that she could do it, but I couldn't. So I decided to test out my own abilities.

I asked her to think of a number between 1 and 20, I believe, without saying anything to me. She said ok, and I concentrated. A number then slowly surfaced in my mind and I said it. Turns out I was right.

Then I tried it out with a much larger range: 1-100 probably. I was precisely right again.

Then 1 to 1000. I was off by 1 I believe.

Then I told her to think of any animal at all. Again, I spooked her by being able to tell what she was thinking of.

Then I guessed what letter (A-Z) she was thinking of. Then a letter AND number (0-9) combo. Spot on.

Then a color. Then a fruit. Then a vegetable. Then a flower. Then a state (U.S.). Then a country.

The country one should've been the hardest to just guess. But when I told her to concentrate on it, my mind kind of envisioned a globe. Then it focused it on one country: Japan. Random enough to not be a common choice, right? Turns out I was right with that one, too.

I think there were 2 or 3 other categories, and only twice was I off, and not by much.

Basically, my point is, I've finally found someone with whom I have an almost eery connection with. I'm connected with her on a level that defies almost all rational thought. I was able to basically read HER outward thoughts that night, and it was at once both awesome and spooky. We stopped only because it was starting to freak the both of us out.

Have any of you guys ever had experiences similar to mine?
#45
This was done in Flash:

Guys, tell me what you think. I know that there's something odd with her legs and her arms are kinda stiff.

If you're well-versed in Flash, it would be an even greater help. Any tips or tricks I could use to make her look better?

By the way, her name's Andrea and will be the main character in my new game.

I haven't played MI in years and don't have a copy on me at the moment, but I was just curious as to how the insult swordfighting worked. I believe you started out with the Sword Master, and for every insult there was an appropriate comeback. And then when you fought the pirates, am I right in recalling that there were other insults they threw at you that required the comebacks from the Sword Master?

I was pondering just now about including a similar system in a game, but I just wanted to know exactly how the Monkey Island system worked. Can anybody help?

Sorry if it seems like a rather ambiguous question. Like was there a process in learning the correct responses? Or were they there from the start, when fighting the Sword Master?

Heh, hello all. I'm back, so it seems. After playing "Out Of Order" (made with SLUDGE) I was inspired once again to start work on an adventure game. The thing is, I've been tinkering around with a bunch of different ideas: reviving that Southcoast City game I was working on, with a new plot and setting, but the same concept (RPG-adventure hybrid); reviving By the Sword: Conspiracy once again; a whole new concept.

Thing is, first, I want to practice my graphical skills. You see, lately, I've been getting really good with Adobe Illustrator here at my job, and I was considering using vector graphics for my game. I looked at the style used in Out Of Order and I noticed that it could really be done using vector graphics. I also finally realized that graphics aren't everything in a game. After all, OOO one several (two) adventure gaming awards.

I don't think I'm quite ready to tackle By the Sword quite yet. That is a long-term project that I'm just not ready for just yet. The demo is still floating around on http://bts.xylot.com/ though.

No, I've been thinking of several game ideas. I just want to do something simple, short, and sweet right now. I have a few ideas floating around, but I need some help from you guys. Anybody that could help me out with simple, easy, and fun game ideas would be greatly respected by myself.

Also, I need some resources on walk cycles. I've searched throughout the web, but sometimes good sites aren't easy to find through Google. Also, the Kafka site (http://www.sylpher.com/kafka) is down. I might check out the InstaGame pack. But does anybody have any ideas as to where I could find walk cycles. I don't really mean tutorials, but more like actual walk cycles that perhaps I could...trace over and make my own?

I'm really not that graphically inclined, but it's about time I started trying...

General Discussion / I have superpowers.
Sun 23/10/2005 10:16:29
Hah, not really, but the funniest thing happened tonight (or, rather, early this morning, around 3-4am)...

I hypnotized my girlfriend.

No, you read that right, I hypnotized her. It wasn't really intentional, actually. We started talking about paranormal things like out-of-body experiences, astral projection, psychics, hypnosis, etc., and she told me how she was once with a friend of hers, who claimed that my g/f answered her questions in her sleep. Like my girlfriend (Andrea) was asleep, and her friend would ask her a few questions, and Andrea answered back, all while asleep. I then concluded that she wasn't really asleep, but under a form of hypnosis. As we talked some more, I found my voice droning on, sounding monotonous but smooth. She then appeared to have fallen asleep.

To test her real state, I then asked her what the capital of Massachusetts was, expecting her to say something like "Babe, I'm not asleep right now." Instead, she simply said "Boston". I then got all giddy inside as I realized that I could do . . . things ;)

I then told her, calmly and gently, that she was falling deeper into sleep and could only hear my voice. I told her she was competely relaxed, went from her toes up to her head and made sure she was fully "under". I then gave her a little test, knowing that she would never play along to humor me. I told her I was lifting her hand, and as I did I told her that it was now glued in mid-air and that she could not move it, no matter who pushed it or what she wanted. I let it go, and it stayed positioned in mid-air. I pushed her hand; it pushed back. I had her under! ;D

What I had her do next was kinda R-rated (X-rated in some countries ;) ), but suffice it to say, when she woke up (I did a backwards 5-count to gently bring her out of it), she was surprised to feel some moistness.  :P

I had her under hypnosis about 4 times total, for a total of 1-2 hours on and off, just messing around (harmless fun, I assure you). I even got her to flash me whenever I said the phrase "Crazy Horse", which worked great while she was under. When I brought her to, I said the word again, and she flashed me, then suddenly realized what she was doing and said "What the hell? What am I . . . huh?" And I informed her about the keyword. I tried it again and it didn't work this time. Very interesting results, I must say. I gotta find out how these hypnotists get people to do things on command while conscious. :P

So yeah, I had an interesting time tonight and so did she. I made sure that the next 3 times she remembered what she had done once she awoke each time. :D

Dammit, first a TV show and now a credited movie role (credited in a preview on TV). DIdn't we discover this fool? Andy Penis sure has grown up...

Wow! Damn, I've been busy as hell! And I know what you are all asking yourselves...

What the f*** happened to you, Rich? Where have you been? You're still ALIVE???

Well, school took up a huge portion of my time for quite a while. Studying, tests, finals, quizzes, all that. I'm finally done with school as of Friday and will have my Associates' Degree in Web Design. A few weeks ago one of my instructors came up to me and asked "How would you like a job?" I just looked at him and said "Yeah, sure!" He got me in contact with a guy from http://www.parsonskellogg.com and I sent him my resume.

This was only one day after another instructor offered to subcontract some web design jobs to me for a nice sum of money per job. I met with him and at first he said he's pay me $1,000 for my part in the job. That's only for about 2 weeks' worth of work and it's not even hard work. Just the other day he calls me up and says that he's approved an increase from $1,000 to $2,000 for my part in the job and it will now include a very basic e-commerce section.

As for the fulltime job, I went for the interview and it looked very promising. He said he just had to interview a few other people and he'd get back to me the next Friday. Well, Friday came and there was no call. By this point I just wanted OUT of the Home Depot. That placce is an utter hellhole and I just wanted to leave that godforsaken place. Moday comes and I decided to call him up and ask him if he made a decision yet. He was busy and his secretary said he'd call me back in half an hour. An hour goes by and he calls me back and asks me, "So, are you interested in the position?" I said sure and he said that instead of the $15/hr we agreed upon during the interview, it was down to $14 an hour. I went from making $9.70 an hour at the Home Depot for backbreaking labor and dealing with the rudest customers in the country, to making $14 an hour doing Photoshop work, Illustrator work, page layout and design, web design...all the things I love to do.

And get this...there is beer stocked in the break room fridge, seeing as how it's a very casual office atmosphere. Guys were walking around in sandals or even barefoot on the nicely carpeted floor. With me as a new hire, there are probably 12-15 people working there now. ;D

As for the web design side-job, I get a check for $500 under the table, which means I don't have to claim it on my taxes and pay anything for it. Then, at certain predetermined milestones, I get more checks for $500. But basically I don't start any work on it until I get my first $500. (With it I am buying a Gamecube and the two wrestling video games released on it. ;) )

So yeah, life is going pretty damn good, but the hectic-ness isn't over yet. I should be getting the check for $500 sometime this week, maybe even tomorrow, which means I'll have to start working on it. I've also been very busy with another web site project of mine, a wrestling themes web site called Xylot Themes. It's down right now, but will hopefully be up soon.

So basically, I'm saying this: I won't be around here as often as I used to be. Sure, I'll pop in from time to time on Gen-Gen, but I have no time for AGS anymore. :( I'm sorry. This also means that By The Sword is dead for now. LGM was supposed to help me with the story so I could work on it once more, but he's been busy and so have I. I might...MIGHT...be willing to give the reins to someone else and let them work on it, but I don't know if I could trust anybody with that. It was my dream to make BTS, for years now...I can't just give it away to somebody and risk the chance that they might fudge it up to the point where I will hate it.

I will PM CJ regarding this, but I will soon no longer be a mod on the Beginners' Tech Forum. I will definitely hand off the BFAQ to somebody else, mostly Scummbuddy if he wants it, but for no I won't have any time for AGS. Like I said, I'll still be visiting from time to time, mainly in the General Discussion Forum, but that's pretty much about it. I'm not keeping up to speed with AGS and I'm way behind and have little to no time to brush on my AGS, especially since I won't be using it.

This isn't so long. This is more like...I'm back, but only sporadically. ;)

Anyone else hear about this?

Apparently, just because somebody made a hacked mod of GTA:SA, now it's labelled as Adults Only. Geez, if somebody jokingly made a modification of Super Mario World where the Princess was nude, would Mario World suddenly be labelled "Adults Only"? I think the whole thing is ridiculous. Nobody paraded for an increase in rating for Tomb Raider when the nude mod came out, did they? Geez.

Well, well, well, peeps, it's that time once again! What time is it, you ask? Well, 12:35am Eastern Standard Time...

...

OH! Right! THAT time...it's time for the Annual Look at Future Movies, with your host, TerranRich!

(For last year's Look at Future Movies, clicky clicky.)

So, without further adoodoo, here are the movies scheduled for release from 2006 on! If you know of any movies I've left out, or wish to add to what I post below, please feel free to do so. I will list the main actors, plot, and organize them by year of release, starting with...

2006
The A-Team
Four veterans, framed for a crime they didn't commit, help people in trouble while on the run from the military.
Rumored Cast: Gene Hackman as Hannibal, Guy Pearce as Face, Sam Rockwell as Murdoch, and Jamie Foxx as B.A.
Er? I never watched the A-Team TV show, so I'm not following this very much. Might be interesting to see.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie
OMFG! This will totally rock. I LOVE the cartoon, and this should be great. :D

Back to School
A remake of the 80's comedy, where a hedonistic business man enrolls in college to inspire his son â€" and for the good times.
Starring: Cedric the Entertainer.
Why does Cedric the Entertainer have to take good, old movies and shit on them? Honeymooners was shat on, he was in that National Lampoon's Family Vacation rip-off, and now he's shitting on Rodney Dangerfield's legacy. Blech!

Bambi & the Great Prince of the Forest and Bambi II (Video)
Er? The first one is being advertised as a "mid-quel", whatever the hell that means (it means it takes place in the middle of the first one), and then there's a sequel. We're sequel-happy!

Basic Instinct 2
Basically the first one, only 13 years later. Pfft.

Bean 2
Yes! I loved the first movie, as well as the TV series, and this should only be better, IMHO. :)

Bruce Almighty 2
Heh, get this: it was originally titled "The Passion of the Ark". WTF? "Bruce I'm making you God again." - "Okay, cool." (Bruce messes up, God fixes it all) - "I've learned my lesson!"

By the Sword: Conspiracy
Er? What's that you say? Yes, that's right. I'm taking this opportunity to officially reveal to everyone that I'm re-starting work on BTS. Revamped plot, improved story & puzzles, the whole deal. :)

Carmen Sandiego
Story of the famed criminal.
Several people are listed as possbly being Carmen Sandiego, including Eva Mendes and Famke Janssen. I'm still looking forward to this one, as I loved the games as a kid.

Charlotte's Web
The usual plot.
Starring: Dakota Fanning as Fern, Andre 3000 as Elwyn, Kathy Bates as Bitsy, Steve Buscemi as Rat Templeton, etc.
Dakota Fanning? Should I be surprised? If you ever need a kid in your movie...Dakota Fanning's your actress! I swear to God, they don't hire any other child actors besides her anymore. Either way, I'm still excited about Steve Buscemi as a cartoon voice. :)

Curious George
Will Ferrell stars as The Man in the Yellow Hat, a gentleman who looks after his pet monkey - an inquisitive and wonderful creature whose enthusiasm often gets the best of him.
Starring: Drew Barrymore as ?, Will Ferrel as The Man in the Yellow Hat, etc.
This should be interesting. It's categorized as an animation/adventure, but not a family movie. Neato.

Daddy Day Camp
As I reported last year, this one is a sequel to Daddy Day Care. The first one was a really good movie, I'm eager to see this one.

Day of the Dead
Wheeeee!

Dirty Harry (Video Game)
As tough detective "Dirty" Harry Callahan, you must navigate the streets of San Francisco and crush the scum of the streets from creating havoc and crime.
Starring: Of course, Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry.
A video game? Of Dirty Harry? I'm in.

Final Destination 3
Okay, completely different cast this time around. So it's nothing like the first two. Then why make it a sequel? Ask Hollywood.

Get Smart
Yes! I used to love watching reruns of Get Smart on Nickelodeon when I was a kid! So far, only Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart. I think that's a perfect role for Carell. He looks like Smart, in a way, and would play him perfectly. :D Oh yeah, it's written by none other than Mel Brooks. ;)

He-Man
Hmm. I was never really into this cartoon as a kid, but this seems interesting. They're having some model-turned-actor as He-Man, and that's all that's listed.

I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
GAAH!! Give me a frickin' break already! And coming in 2008: "I'll Seriously Never Ever EVER Forget What You Did Fourteen Summers Ago Because It Really Kinda Sucked"

I Dream of Jeannie
Kate Hudson as Jeannie. Kate Hudson? Meh.

Indiana Jones 4
Aaaaaand let the jokes begin!

Jurassic Park IV
Seriously. It's been in pre-production since 2003. :P

Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury
Considering I never actually watched the first Kung Pow, perhaps I should before watching this one.

LOL
Don't know what it's about, I just thought it was interesting that they finally named a movie after Internet slang. Coming in 2007: "LOL 2: ROFLMFAO OMFG!!!111" starring Andy Penis

Metroid
Based on the hit video game, the story follows the origin of the bounty hunter, Samus Aran, and her adventures battling the insidious life-sucking Metroids and their controlling force, Mother Brain.
Another movie based on a video game. Let's see how this one fares...

Miami Vice
Vice detectives James Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs take on the Florida drug world.
Starring: Pretty boy Colin Farrell as Det. James "Sonny" Crockett, Jamie Foxx as Det. Ricardo Tubbs...wait a minute...
wasn't Tubs...eh, forget it.

Mission: Impossible III
Starring: Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, etc.
Nice! I want to see this one, because, let me tell you, the first two kicked my ass!

Mrs. Doubtfire 2
Sequel to the smash hit 1993 film sees Robin Williams return as the man who disguises himself as a elderly woman with a dodgy Scottish accent.
Starring: Robin Williams as Daniel Hillard / Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire
What's up with waiting 13 years to release a sequel? Also, I wonder if any of the original cast (Sally Field, to name one) will be in this one.

The Passion of the Clerks
Ten years later, the story of Quick Stop convenience store employees Dante and Randal continues.
Ten years later? God, find new jobs! :P

The Pink Panther
A prequel to the 1964 Peter Sellers original film, where the detective must solve the murder of a famous soccer coach and find out who stole the infamous Pink Panther diamond.
Geez, for a second I thought the Pink Panther would actually be in it.

Police Academy
Whheeeee!

Porky's
A remake of the classic 80s sex comedy, where a group of high schoolers seek revenge on a nightclub owner and his sheriff brother.
Hmm. Howard Stern is the execute producer on this one. ;)

Rambo IV
LMAO! Sheesh.

Revenge of the Nerds
Anyone else getting tired of 80's remakes? :P

Rock 'n' Roll High School
No? Not yet? (Stern's remaking this one too.)

Rush Hour 3
Now here's a sequel I want to see. The first two were hilarious, this one should be great as well.

Tekken
Based on the #1 selling video game, "Tekken" is a high-octane action movie about a young man who discovers he holds a great power and must battle a team of elite fighters who will stop at nothing in order to get it from him.
Even better than the Mario Brothers movie! (Which I'm quite fond of, by the way.)

Terminator 4
Okay, they come in threes: old actors reprising old roles. Leave it alone, Gavunna Ahnold!!!

Untitled Star Wars TV Series
Neato. Plot unknown: Will most likely focus on new characters and be set between Episode III and Episode IV.

Untitled Mad Max 4 Film
Mad Max, finally with us in his fourth incarnation, still wanders the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Australian Outback doing absolutely nothing...just...wandering...

X-Men 3
I'm not a big action movie fan, but this one looks okay.

Young Hannibal
The best pre-sequel ever made! (Because it's the only pre-sequel I know of.)

2007

The Butterfly Effect 2
Ashton Kutcher's second attempt at trying to act serious. (Okay, really, I liked TBE.)

Captain American
We're in the age of comic books turning into movies. Fantastic 4, Hellboy...

Fahrenheit 9/11½
In the wake of the 2004 United States Presidential election, Michael Moore continues to examine what happened to the United States after September 11...
Whee. I'm just sad that many people dismissed the first movie as nothing but propaganda and lies. The die-hard Bush supporters make me want to punch a wall.

The Fast and the Furious 3
Starring...other people.

Halo
Yes! Too bad it won't be like the Red vs Blue videos. ;)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Seriously, by the time he does his last movie, Daniel Radcliffe will be 30.

Max Payne
On a personal mission to avenge the deaths of his wife and child, a troubled NYPD cop is framed for murder and finds himself being hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation.
Nice! Although it's another video-game-turned-movie, it should be good.

National Treasure 2
What? A sequel? What, is Nicolas Cage going to steal the Constitution next?

Rainbow Six
'Nother video-game-turned-movie.

Shrek 3
When Fiona's dad dies Shrek is supposed to take the crown but Shrek doesn't want the responsibility. So Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Puss look for a new king. And so far King Arthur is the best they got.
Grrrrrrrrail!?!? I'm sorry, but Justin Timberlake as King Arthur? Like, gag me with a spoon!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Probably gonna be CGI. There was something...unique about the live-action TMNT. Damn, now I want to see the first 3 movies. :P

The Three Stooges
Er? A Farrelly Brothers movie set in "World War II era" Los Angeles, three young women with "Rosie the Riveter" type jobs, deal with -- at the defense plant where they work -- an overbearing boss, cheating boyfriends, and Nazi saboteurs.
Um. What?

Toy Story 3
The story follows Buzz Lightyear as he is recalled to Taiwan after a series of malfunctions. Learning of a productwide recall, all the toys in Andy's room, under Woody's leadership, head to Taiwan to save Buzz from doom.
Total Recall!

Under Siege 3
I was wrong. They come in fours.

Untitled Batman Begins Sequel
WTF? Ah, so i was wrong again! Another pre-sequel for our enjoymentness.

Untitled Star Trek Prequel
Just name it already! I love how people are already saying this movie will suck, with no announced plot, cast, or even a title. Idiots.

Wonder Woman
A big-screen adaptation of DC Comics biggest super-heroine.
Rumored Cast: Jessica Alba as Wonder Woman.
Pfft! Yeah, okay.

2008

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
The sixth magical adventure of the young wizard Harry Potter.
By this time, the girl that plays Hermione (Emma Watson) will be old enough for me to bone er, date. :P

The Simpsons
Guess this means it's over in 3 years. :)

And that's it! Discuss! :D

A little parody of Star Wars, featuring organic foods vs. the "dark side of the farm", wth such characters as Cuke (Cucumber) Skywalker and Obi-Wan Canoli (sp?). It's hilarious.

Give it a look ;)

Hey all,

If you use Visual Basic, then I need your help, citizen! :=

I'm programming a calculator-like program in VB. Whenever I use the trigonometric functions, like Sine and Cosine, for certain values I get answers very close to zero but not quite.

For example, when finding the Tangent of Pi/2, the answer is undefined (or infinitely positive/negative), but instead I get -286411217403671 for an answer. Similarly, when I find the Sine of Pi (which is supposed to be 0), I get 3.23108510433268E-15 (scientific notation for an extremely small number).

I am pretty sure it might have something to do with the fact that I am using Doubles everywhere in the code, but I did this so that the answers would be as accurate as possible. Of course, now they're a bit TOO accurate. On the other hand, I think it might very well have something to do with my declaration of Pi:

Code: ags
Const Pi = Atn(1) * 4

This is a known representation of Pi, and it's an accurate approximation. Could that be the problem in my code?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now Announcing my new project!

(Click on image to visit web site.)

Story: You play Jack Randall (tentative name), a man who's lost everything. A man who must now start from scratch in a city he knows nothing about. As Jack, you've been dumped on the streets of SouthCoast City, and left for dead. After spending the last of your cash at the hospital, healing your injuries, you're broke and only manage to find a place to sleep through pure luck. In this city, you have to start fresh. You need to rebuild your life and get to know the city and its inhabitants.

Background: SouthCoast City is named after the region in which I live: the South Coast region, which covers half a dozen cities in the southeastern portion of Massachusetts between Cape Cod and Rhode Island. I'm modeling many buildings and features of the cities after cities in my area, including landmarks and places of business.

What's It All About? Well, think of SCC as a cross between Grand Theft Auto, an RPG, and a Sim game, all wrapped up into a nice little package that plays exactly like an adventure game. Basically, you have Stats such as those found in an RPG (Health, Energy, etc.) as well as Stats that you must attend to, such as Intelligence, Strength, and Appeal. A little bit into the game, you start being sent on missions, at first for others, and then for yourself and your friends. You can hold a job or two...or three. You can eventually own the business you work for. You can also do other things for money, such as drug dealing, pick-pocketing, and pimping. As you progress the story, farther areas of the Outer Cities become accessible and new features are unlocked. But those are a surprise. ;)

What Have I Got to Show?

How about a small demo of the opening credits from the game? It's only a starting point. I will add other features, such as the background moving behind the scratched-out parts of the images. But that's a minor point right now.

Screenshots:

I only have an image of how the Status GUI will appear in the game. Keep in mind that the background used is simply a photograph and does not reflect the style that I will use for the game:

Progress:
Story: 30%
Dialog: 3%
Puzzles: 20%
Gameplay: 0%

Overall progress: 1%

I'm just starting this game, so don't expect much for another few months. :)

Yup, this is, I believe, my second time ever posting in the C&C forum in my 3 years on this forum. :P I figure, to make this game the best I can, I need outside feedback. This game, called SouthCoast City, will be an Urban RPG. That's the best phrase I can use to describe it. It's kind of like an adventure-esque RPG set in an urban setting, with some inspiration from Grand Theft Auto and a Flash game called Sim Day & Night.

Tell me what you think:

It was done entirely in PhotoShop with some "borrowed" external images (but they're so little that nobody can even tell). So what do you think? Should I change something around? Is it too cluttered? Too sparse in places? :)

By the way, the city background behind the GUI Overlay is just for testing purposes. I'll be using prerendered 3D backgrounds for this one.

GUI Legend:
SCC Symbol: This is the game's logo. When clicked, it will lead the player to the Options control panel.
Envelope: Mail! If this is on, the player has mail at home.
Plus-Sign: Health symbol (first-aid), displays player's health, in %
$ Sign: Money the player has. I maxed out all stats to see how much space this would take up at the most
Beer bottle: Player's Blood Alcohol Level, used to determine drunkenness (for use in fights, etc.)
Bandana: Player's Respect from the city, like in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, shows how much people respect you
Thumbs-Up: Confidence level. I couldn't really think of anything else to symbolize confidence.
Graduation Cap: Intelligence level.
Winking Smiley: Charm/Charisma level.
Dumbells: Strength level.
The curly brace signifies that those three stats contribute to...
Purple Man: Total Personality level. Used for job promotions and flirting with the ladies.
TAC: Temporary Alcoholic Confidence. You know how people can get cocky and brash when they're drunk and do stupid things? Yeah, this is how much stupidity the player can possiibly act out.
Broken Heart: Damage to the player. There is a relationship between Health and Damage (Damage lowers your Max Health level)

The white clock face will be filled in with a graphic symbolizing what time of day it is (basically a slice of the clock will be a certain color, depending on if the player has slept the previous night or not, etc.).

I checked the AGS Bug/Feature Tracker and I could not find this in there. This may have been suggested already, but would it be possible to have caption-style speech in AGS? If you don't know what I'm talking about, basically just the character, as normal, speaks, while his/her words appear along the bottom of the screen (customizable for the top edge also), perhaps in a black box instead of just outlines.

Would that be possible? Is that already in the works? ... Was it released already in v2.7? :P
#58
Just like the title says.

CLICK HERE to view the AGS Wiki BFAQ, and add your question, and its answer. The great thing about a Wiki is the power of peer review and editing, as well as reverting back to older versions if something's funny.

If you come across a thread that you feel belongs in the Beginners' FAQ, then please reply to this thread with a link to that thread (which you can copy to the clipboard right from your address/URL bar in IE/FireFox/Opera/whatever).

I'm finding that I don't have a lot of time anymore to go through all the threads and reply to the simpler questions with references to the BFAQ, before a million other users have replied with answers that could easily be found in the BFAQ. I sometimes miss entire pages of threads.

So if you find any thread that you feel is a common enough question to warrant being added to the BFAQ, then please, by all means, reply here and post the URL to it.

Thank you! :)

General Discussion / Pope John Paul II dies
Sat 02/04/2005 22:56:40
I can just see BOYD go ahead and post something like "Well, boo-hoo! The pope died! Gee, do we have to make a thread everytime some famous person dies? If the guy who sells me women's underwear died, would I post a thread about it?"

:P

So yeah, it's kinda weird hearing about the pope dying. This will be the first time in most (if not all) of our lifetimes that we'll have another pope than what we were brought up with (for the Christian folk). I've long since abandoned religion, so it doesn't affect me that much, but I just want to hear what all of you think about this. It's a big thing.

I am unhappy with my current host, Sonoma Hosting. Although I only pay $5 a month for 1GB of web space and unlimited bandwidth (and yes it's unlimited, I'm up to almost 50GB now halfway through the month because of wrestling themes that I share on another board). The thing is, they won't return my emails about upgrading space (yes I need more than 1GB now). And they're going under new management and are therefore getting rid of all eBay subscriptions that were purchased.

So, I'm switching. I've found a great web host that charges $1 and change per month for 1GB of space and 10GB/mo. bandwidth ($5.07 per month for 4GB/40GB, which is what I'm getting) and only $9.95 a year for a domain name (or I could go with GoDaddy.com, but I digress).

Bsaically, I need a new domain name, because I got my current domain name (www.terran-x.com) through Sonoma Hosting, and I've already cancelled. I was thinking of the following untaken names:

• TerranEx.com (similar to Terran-X, since TerranX is still unavailable)
• Terranopolis.com (hard to type, but distinctive)
• Xylot.com (it just came to me)
• Planet-R.com (for "Rich", would fit into the planet/world motif nicely)

And that's about it. I want a name that I can use as a planet's name for a Flash intro I've been working on, where the visitor is welcomed to it. It WAS going to be "Welcome to Terran-X", but I need more than a gig and am not getting responses. Any other ideas? Should I even stay with the "Terran" theme? Or something out-of-this-world that's easy to remember yet distinctive (along the lines of Xylot). OR, what do you think of the above ideas?

(I'm leaning more toward Planet-R, because it fits into the planet motif very nicely, but that's just me.)
