So wait, you're just making basically a file mirror for all AGS game downloads?

If so, I'm continuing with my idea. Our sites could even work together, using your site as a backup for downloads!

Part 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKAbZgMm-JA

Summary:

10. "Smackdown From Space" - Mars' orbit changes and impacts the Earth
9. "The Big Freeze" - Earth moves away from the sun
8. "The Big Burn" - Earth moves closer to the sun
7. "Stopping the Spin" - Earth's rotation completely stops
6. "Torn Between Two Black Holes" - Earth gets stuck between two small black holes, stretching it out
5. "Devoured From Within" - Earth suddenly has a black hole in its core
4. "Turn Off the Gravity" - Earth's gravity mysteriously vanishes, and we all float away :)
3. "Anti-Matter Annihilation" - 100,000,000,000,000 tons of antimatter hits the Earth (enough to destroy it)
2. "Transformed by Strange Matter" - One particle of strange matter touches something on the Earth, transforming the entire planet into strange matter. (I had never heard of strange matter before I watched this show, and this particular one amazed me.)
1. "When Parallel Worlds Collide" - A parallel universe interacts with ours, destroying not just the Earth, but both universes

What's amazing is that there's a realistic explanation of how each one could very well happen in real life, for the most part. :D

This show is packed with tons of explanations of 'branes (the theoretical separation of parallel universes and possible explanation for the Big Bang), the basic forces of physics, quarks and strange matter, and other various topics. Awesome show.

There was a program on one of the educational channels (History, Discovery, et al) that featured the Top 10 ways the Earth would be destroyed (and no we can't do it ourselves). It was something to think about, but I wouldn't say I dream about such things. ;)

Just remember... if you wish there were a function that acts as a shortcut, you can always make your own. I do this all the time, and it makes things so much easier.

Also, don't forget to import this function in the global script header.

320 resolution is mostly for pixel art, games with artwork intended to resemble older games. Games done in 640 and higher usually have to have a different style, like vector, 3D, or hand-drawn. That's just my observation, though.

That's a very good point, Leon, and something that I as a web developer tend to ignore all too easily. Start small, then add features as the site grows.

And Peder, I would love to help with any coding issues or problems that arise once the site goes beta or is launched. :)

Damn, Peder. So far your project is nearly identical to the one I had in mind. With that said, I'm no longer working on my AGSDb (IMDb for AGS) website, so I'll give you some suggestions that my own idea would've implemented.

First off, user-submitted reviews. The main AGS Games page is filled with "Great game! :)" or something similarly short, and nothing more. There could be an option for users to write up full reviews for games.

Also, each games page could feature a development/other news blog maintained by the creator, so it's more like a mini-site than just a listing.

Just some thoughts. Might as well put those ideas to good use if I won't use them myself. :)

Ah, so like an instant pause button. This should be script controlled (i.e. if user pressed "Pause/Break", then InstantPause() or something), because some people might have timed puzzles and that would essentially be a cheat.

My plan was originally going to have the spacebar do the same thing as the middle-button... eventually I would've had three keyboard shortcuts for each of the three mouse buttons, just in case somebody wanted that option.
#230
This might be a stupid questions, but can an adventure game be made using the Unreal 3 engine, in theory?
#231
Sweet! (Although I changed my system around so that middle-clicks aren't even used anymore.) :P

RickJ created a background character walking module some years ago. Not sure if that would help.

What I'm talking about here is what is possible vs. what is impossible. It is not possible to separate foreground from background in audio, for the reasons I mentioned. Just re-read my comparison to a JPEG with a semi-transparent man in front of a background.

As for the alteration of individual notes, that is definitely possible, because it's all about mathematics. Each note has a certain frequency, and even combinations of notes can take the shape of a certain waveform. It all boils down to mathematics and waveforms. But background noise, which can basically be considered white noise, is impossible to separate out, unless the foreground sound is something absolutely simple, like one instrument playing notes.
#234
Altering pitch on a note-by-note basis sounds do-able, and within the realm of possibility. But taking a grainy security video, blowing up a tiny section 1000X and having it come out in HD quality is just... not. ;)
#235
To be fair, CSI is more science-fiction than drama. Most of the stuff they do, especially the sound editing they do, is mostly magic and special effects. There is no simple way to separate background noise from foreground sound, simply because of the way the sounds are stored. It'd be like having a JPG of a man with 50% transparency overlayed on a background. You can't separate the two. Sure, you can lasso-tool the man out, but you'll still see background behind him because he was only 50% opaque when the JPG was saved.

Damn. I had this amazing idea for an AGS version of IMDb.

Maybe I'll still make it anyway. It was going to be like the AGS Games site, on steroids, with user-submitted reviews and such.

First of all, is it a Mac or Windows computer?

If Windows, where exactly is this folder? Is it something like "C:\Windows\res"?
#238
"Yeah, uh, we got a call about an elevator stuck on the 45,637th floor..."
#239
Where exactly is this "Res" folder?
