Might I suggest a way of quieting down an insanely-scrolling room: Set the room's mode to +m where only ops can speak for a minute or so,  depending on how crazy it was. This shouldl be used only when craziness erupts, such as (1) excess actions, (2) bot abuse, (3) smilies and spelling corrections abound.

One of the many "crowd control" methods the IRC gestapo can use ;) :P

Minimi, just a friendly reminder... anything that is AGS- or adventure game-related and is not a technical question, should go in the AGS Chit Chat Forum, just to help keep the Gen Forum less clogged up with random threads. :) It's hard enough to sift through it as it is. :P

I can't stress enough, to check the manual ALWAYS when asking questions. This is a given. You must always do this before posting, because Chris Jones pays for the bandwidth usage of these forums out of his own pocket. The more we post, the more it's used up. There have been times when the entire forums had to be shut down temporarily due to excess bandwidth usage.

Just a friendly reminder to all. :)

I agree with BOYD in that most of the ops in #ags do jack shit. I say most, not all. We need ops that frequent the room often, and don't idle all the time. I see many people (not going to name names) as ops who idle 24/7.

And what do you mean, CJ, by "Selection of new 'ops' is made by appointment only and no requests for op status will be given."? How can it be by appt. if no requests are accepted? I'll PM you regarding this.

You don't need to make your own GUI. Just go to the main settings tab and select the "Speech style" drop-down list box and choose "Sierra Style". You can also choose QFG4 style. If you REALLY want to make your own speech GUI, there is help in the manual. :)

Games based on movies would be terribly linear, unless new material was written. I think Back to the Future, like BOYD said, would be the best choice, simply because I love the trilogy.

When I have more time, I'll analyze the first movie in more detail and see whether it really can be made into a game.

Will & Grace is a good example of the two extremes of male homosexual behavior. You have Jack, who is the dramatic type, somewhat affemininate, and with the light voice. Then there's Will, who I would never have suspected of being gay had I met him in the street. Hell, I didn't even realize he was gay until about the 4th episode I watched!

This is sort of a microcosm of the world. There are guys that you automatically pin-point as being gay due to their feminine behavior. Then there are those that,  when they do come out of the closet, you are very shocked and would have never expected it.

Okay, here goes. Make a room with three button graphics (not button OBJEECTS) on it, labeled Start, Load, and Quit.

In AGS, load up the room image, then create three hotspots, one over each "button". In the first hotspot, choose its "player clicks on hotspot" interaction and have it load up Room #1. Have the second one use RestoreGame(...) and the third QuitGame(...). Look both of those up in the manual. :)

New topic. I wanted to respond to the other thread by Yufster, but teh Gen Gen Gestapo reared their ugly heads (in the form of TEH LEKS!!).

I usually tie everything about human behavior I observe into reincarnation. I believe that most feminine gay men were girls in past lives and vice-versa. They are so accustomed to being female that now that they are male, they can't help it.

They would probably argue otherwise. Then again, some would argue against reincarnation completely. :P

Oh, now I get it. But wait...if you didn't want more than the 8 directionals, then what DO you need? You're not exactly clear on this. If you need directions BETWEEN the diagonals and the cardinals (N/S/W/E), then yes you will indeed need some INSANE scripting. And now, looking at when you said "script please?" I just laughed. I doubt even RickJ could come up with that code...and that's saying something! :)

Quite. The two external braces serve no purpose and aren't needed. HOWEVER, to do it properly, use if then else if and not just two if statements. It makes for better organization. :)

No, I consider this a beginners' question. What I did was have intro.crm show the logo, some sound effect, then fade into room1, whcih was the same as intro.crm except with added buttons, etc. In intro.crm's "Player enters room (after fade-in)" interaction, I put in the command to play the sound effect, the Wait() command, telling it to wait 7 seconds (the length of the effect), then it loads up the new room.

As simple as that. :)

So if your character is walking any direction other than a perfect diagonal or straight line, then what IS displayed? Also, ,did you check to see if all your animations, views,  loops, etc. were all in the right slots? That is, 0 for up, 1 for down, etc., etc. (or whatever they are).
