Oh.
* terranRICH slaps his forehead.
I totally forgot about that. Sorry. :)

Ooh, neat. And a custom inventory, as well? People would really benefit from that. I know that it's not that hard, as I've made one for my game already.
#2943
Again, Chris, you've added something that I have no clue how to use, that's how powerful it is. I'll have to mull this item properties feature over a bit to see how I can use it. Man, you blow my mind sometimes. NOW STOP IT! ;D ;D
#2944
Wait...what's wrong with just not putting a walkable area where the object is? This way, the character will simply walk around it. Or did you want the character to stop completely? Because, unless you're using keyboard-controlled movement, that wouldn't make much sense. :)

This might be in the Beginners' FAQ, the bit about making sure "Run Script" is set. HAH! N00B!! :P

Don't worry, I went for a week trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with my demo before i realized I didn't have that set for the buttons in my GUI. :D

Awesome. Well, SSH, Erica's thread is for beginners. What I'm suggesting is a somewhat more advanced collection of code, sort of like www.vbcode.com where everything is grouped into categories of function. I like your organizational idea, SSH.

I am planning on going through many of the Tech and BegTech threads to see if anyone (not just you two!) posted any useful code. Not simple things like how to increment a GlobalInt, but things like RickJ's random walk-behind NPC solution and whatever else I can find. I'll have time tomorrow after work (6PM EST, 11PM GMT [?] ) to search through a lot of the threads for code snippets.

I understand your concern over organization and implementation, Scorpiorus (just realized I've been misspelling your name this entire time! :P), but I beleive we've been doing fine so far, what with people posting their code in their replies and others just using it. There would be guidelines, of course, like color coding for what is NOT code, for example headers to tell the user what location the code will go in, etc. I believe this could work.

So, to ANYone out there, if you have any useful code...I'm even taking custom functions that are useful alone, like a few that I have (DisplayThoughts(), WaitSec(), FaceDir(), WasInRoom(), GetRandomLetter()), as well as ideas and concepts, like my GlobalFlags extension of the GlobalInts system...please, by all means, email them to me, at TerranRich@Harbinger-Software.com.

Thanks! ;D

Quote* Added "Lock objects in position" checkbox to the GUI editor, to stop you accidentally moving objects when trying to select them.

Wasn't this already implemented? I remember that option having been there for ages.

I haven't looked at this version yet but I think it means like locking buttons etc on a GUI not just normal objects in a room, I think that's what it means

Oh! Well, in this case... Chris, how about making it so that, if you have two or more items in a GUI overlapping, clicking in a place where they overlap over and over again will alternate between the objects beneath that coordinate? Is that possible? I have a label over a button (used for an image), and selecting just the label is hell unless I first move the image underneath it. :)

Mittens is a yearly get-together of AGSers in person, MAGS is a competitions (Monthly AGS), and sure you can use me.

http://profiles.yahoo.com/terranrich for a headshot of me

I'm 6' tall, between slim and medium build...I love long walks on the beach... :P

That's basically almost like m0ds's game, Kinky Island. :P

But seriously, as far as I know, there are a handful of ladies at the least, including FemmeFatal, Melia/Bruised, Dragonrose, Pesty. Even on the AGS forums, just like in life, I'm not acquainted with many females. :P
#2950
Meh, I should just stop answering questions. I can't keep up with AGS.  ::)

:P

i am thinking about putting up a site with snippets of all the code you guys have posted as of late. But what I would like is for you guys to try to find as many as you can, and maybe put comments to explain everything. Even *I* get lost trying to read teh code. :P

Do you guys think this would be a good idea?
#2952
Why on Earth would you want an adventure game in any resolution higher than 800x600? I personally think 800x600 itself is too high, but it was added after many newbies requested it.  ::)

You can play AVI, WMV, and FLI/FLC files at the moment with AGS. MPEG might be supported in the future, but that's a big maybe. :)
#2953
My God. I cannot even imagine what you and RickJ will do to/with Demo Quest. :o

isn't it the guy in the yellow shirt?

Nope, in the Original Series, the redshirts were Security (or engineering, like Scotty) and therefore always were the first to die. In TNG and all series thereafter, gold and red were reversed,  so that red is now command, and gold is security/engineering/operations. :)

I watch too much Star Trek. ;)

* terranRICH makes a random, nonsensical statement.

There. Do I win?
#2957

Quote* Added SetCharacterBlinkView and SetGUISize text script functions.

Awesome, SetGUISize could be very useful.

Quote* Added "Lock objects in position" checkbox to the GUI editor, to stop you accidentally moving objects when trying to select them.

Wasn't this already implemented? I remember that option having been there for ages.

Quote* Added extra "Blinking" view to draw an extra animation on top of the character's speech animation intermittently while they are talking. Currently Sierra-style speech only.
* Added 'goto-previous' dialog script command to return to previous topic.
* Added new "Box out" screen transition, which uses an expanding black box from the centre of the screen.

Ooh, neat! :D

Quote* Script editor is no longer a modal window (but only if it's not opened from the interaction editor).

Ah, I was just about to ask for this feature, too. :) Awesome.

Quote* Sierra-style speech now shrinks the width of the text window if the text is narrower than the screen width.

Awesome! ;D

Quote* Changing a hotspot name now correctly marks the room as modified.
* You are now always prompted to save changes to a room when loading another one - the Preferences setting only affects the prompt when you choose the "Save Room" option on the menu.
* SetPlayerCharacter now leaves the cursor mode as Use Inv if the new character has an active inventory item.
* Fixed Sierra-style speech box overrunning the face if it had wide borders.
* Fixed SetPlayerCharacter crashing if called from game_start.
* Fixed RunAGSGame not working if mode was passed as 1.
* Fixed dialog options moving across the screen in non-GUI mode.
* Fixed editor crash typing >200 characters into a label.
* Fixed dividing by zero in the script causing a fatal exception.

Very cool.

Awesome work, it just gets better and better with age. ;)

What Ben said. Also, I hope you didn't intend for US to C&C that image? :P You know better. ;)

It might look messy, but believe me, using dithering when converting down to 32K colors is the only way. I have to do it too with my game.
