I was originally going to move this post into another forum, but since you are all now talking about scripting, I'll let it go. :)

Just remember to post relevant stuff in the right forums.
#2962
Heh, that's okay, just keep in mind to follow the forum rules, which state such things as having a descriptive title, not using weird text effects, ya know,  just common sense stuff. :)

Welcome, and glad to have you aboard. :)
#2963
All this run-script stuff is covered in the Beginners' FAQ. Have you even tried looking there, Plog? :)
#2964
Also, read the forum rules. Not only does it mention colorful/special text effects, but it also says to use a descriptive title. :)

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Re:Mittens USA

I say it should be on the east coast, ,although getting time off from work for Mittens 2004 might be tough...I'm already planning on going to Portugual between July and August for 2 weeks. I can't ask for TOO much time off. If it's close enough to Massachusetts,  I could go for a day or two.

:)

This is late (I've been at school, people, no time.) but I'd like to congratulate you one one thing that wasn't there when I left:

When typing the code, and coming to a set function like DisplaySpeech, it gives you the syntax right there instead of you having to look it up. Congratulations. Brilliant.

I'm done.

Yup, I love it too. It's reminiscent of Visual Basic, a feature of which I absolutely love. :D

CJ, I don't remember if you've ever answered this or not, but is 32-bit color support possible in AGS? As it is, with 16-bit, the dithering is messy looking, and the other option in PSP, best-color, is just horrendous. I mean, it's only noticeable up close, but I think 32-bit color support would be the icing on the AGS cake. :)

Is it feasible?

Rich, you are the one that got all this started ;) when you asked about having characters randomly walk across the screen in the background.  Maybe it will make more sense when I get it done and thetre is a demo available.

Eek! I noticed the link to that thread. :P All I was asking for was a simple script that would let random characters walk across the screen...randomly. I'm considering implementing this AI/AE stuff into By the Sword 2, where I can have realistic characters, etc. And yeah, maybe when a demo comes out, I can understand it more by analyzing the source code and stuff. :)

Aw, teh little amateur hackers are playing, how cute. Nobody's sent me an email, then again I have so many filters running that I'm not surprised.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re:Animation

It's quite all right, Jon, easy mistake. Don't be afraid to ask any other questions you mght have.

On a similar note, remember that importing 24-bit graphics into the 16-bit capabilities of AGS might result in slight discoloration. To avoid this, use a good paint program like Paint Shop Pro and manually reduce it to 32K colors, using dithering if possible to reduce the "messy" appearance of some images. :)
#2973
Don't worry about it! I prefer dumbed-down explanations. :P

This sounds very interesting actually. I'd imagine having moods in that aspect (affecting conversations, etc.) would be VERy complicated to implement. I mean, altering moods is one thing. But deciding what to say based on a set of moods is another altogether.

:o
#2974
Boy, I must be stupid. :P I'm very interested, but also very confused. I've read all the threads, all the documents, and I still don't quite get any of it. Perhaps some kind of dumbed-down tutorial could be made in the future? ;)

Mr.Trant, frankly I've had enough of this. You had better grow up and act your age very soon or you WILL be banned. This is not just another forum where you can swear and flame and do what you like. People here try to act civil and as nice as they can, and what do you do? You respond with anger, hatred, and a whole lotta nothing.

I'd strongly suggest you either keep your "mouth shut" metaphorically speaking and just read the damn manual for a change, or give up altogether, because with an attitude like that, nobody's going to want to help you at all.
#2976
An eraser for the mask editor? Just draw in Color 0, and it'll erase anythign you have beneath! :)
#2977
CJ, whatever happened to the suggestion awhile back about having some kind of config file that the user can fiddle around with before loading up AGS to change the limits. Say he needs less characters, but more objects,  etc., etc. I think you remember. Is that possible at all? Because this is one of those cases where it would be quite handy. :)
#2978
No,  no, no, this is not for requests. But now that you mention it, juncmodule, doing an all-3D InstaGame package would be neat.

I could make it a generic template, with blank scenery like landscapes, beaches, streets, etc. Also,  there could be random items also made in 3D. And don't forget some basic characters...in 3D!!!1!!111

Hmm, let me mull this over in my head to see if it's plausible. :)

EDIT:

Oh, by the way, before I forget, what different sizes do you want the walk cycles to be in? I was thinking about heights of 200, 150, 80, and 40. Is that okay? I can't tell what the widths will be just yet.

Also, for the first two sets, they will be nude (sans genitalia) male and female walk cycles without hair, clothes, or anything, so people can draw over them. Then, I'll just upload random things that I feel like uploading. I'll put it up on my home page for access as well. Expect those first two walk cycles by the end of this week, too. :)

Games are made with 3d chars in 2d bg's by people in these forums.  Check out TerranRich's website for more info for starters.... so id say that it is possible, just not very normal around these parts.

;D ;D ;D

Thanks for teh plug! ;) Yep, it's all pre-rendered 3D characters, objects, and rooms, saved as BMP files, then imported into AGS. Looks almost the same. :)

Quote? The 2.55 engine without MP3 support. Using this you can be absolutely certain there are no mp3-related licensing issues with your game.

Oh...guess I missed that last time I looked. :P
