Remember that everytime ROger did log on then back off, one of them always yelled "Roger!!!!!!!! Roger!!!!!!!!"

Unless they were mentally retarded or just stupid, they probably did think our Rog was their Roger.

As to the point about knowing all that h4x0r stuff but not realizing he was a bot, remember also that stupid people, with enough basic knowledge, can do stupid things, and still remain stupid.

Thanks! This is so Desktop Roger can search through all the AGSers in an onlnie list. When you type, for example, "go username" it will bring you to, say, http://www.usernamewebsite.co.xyz. Typing in just the username will list their name, email, and URL.

I almost forgot about the addition of a "seen" command. From now on, Roger will keep track of when you last logged on to Desktop Roger and this info will be available to all others.

Heh. Oh well. They did hostilly take over #agsfun, regardless of their intentions. They kicked people, the ignored people, they changed the topic, they kickbanned Roger, they opped themselves, they added themselves to L's op list SOMEhow, they chose who to voice and de-voice and moderated the channel. I'd call that a hostile takeover. Oh well. They deserved it.

There was a period before all that where I was using BabelFish to try to talk to them in French. They spoke horrible, broken English.

APparently, they were getting back at a friend of theirs, who had used the nick name Roger. Thinking that our Roger was theirs, they "got back" at him and basically took over #agsfun.

This is getting out of hand. These morons won't leave the channel and keep kicking me if I say anything against them. I'm getting MIGHTY pissed.

CJ: There should be some future countermeasures against this thing from happening again. Apparently these idiots did something and broke ROger. Now he can't join a channel and stay on it.

MillsJRoss is now attempting to re-take the channel! It's a battle to teh death!!!

I don't know what's going on in #ags and #agsfun, but apparently some French people banned Roger from #agsfun and Roger keeps joining and quitting.

I had to join #ags using all 3 of Roger's names just to keep him from flooding the room with join and quit messages. And as for #agsfun, there are four nicks with the same IP, and they're all ops. It's quite annoying. Isn't this considered a room takeover? Isn't that...illegal? In certain countries?

I listen to music, and I have other windows open as diversions some of the time, like the AGS forums, etc. In fact, I'm working on a program right now...maybe I should go back to it...

This is my first time actually participating in one of these threads, so here goes...

When I was a young 'un and AOL was at version 3.0 (!!!), my dad signed up for it (back in 1996/7) and I had to choose a screen name. I originally thought of the Klingon word for human (tera'ngan), but beecause (1) it was taken or invalid, and (2) it was too geeky to live down, I decided to instead go with TerranRich. My name is Rich, and I'm a human, or a Terran in sci-fi terms. So there!

I use TerranRich everywhere, no matter what. It's become a part of me, I've become so used to the name. I've had it for over 6 years, so you can see why.

This whole argument about punishment correlates with spanking a child. Will spanking the child teach him/her a lesson? Or will it only make things worse?

The same goes with crimes. I agree with Annie in that only crimes that hurtt others should warrant temporary separation from society, even something that would not harm the convicted. Something like smokig marijuana here in the U.S. is a ridiculous thing to punish for...which is why the punishment for such an offense is being lowered (or it already has been lowered) to something like a fine and a slap on the wrist.

Futhermore, the death penalty is completely unnecessary. I don't think I'll bore anyone with the reasons why, as they are proabbly evident. If not, I'll be happy to explain.

hehe. Well, I'm working on DeskRog v0.2. He'll have a transparent background and an intuitive balloon-speech/query interface. He will also recognize a whole crapload of new commands.

File Upload System: Since it will be uploading to my own personal web space, I'd rather keep it to crucial things that only Rog can read/write, like messages, AGSers list, etc.

Teachable Roger: This is possible, but I'll save it for a later version. It's on my ToDo list now.

Dance: Animation isn't yet supported. That will take some time. For now, I'm getting all the functionality out of the way so I can later focus on eye candy.

Reminder: This is possible, but nto just yet. It'll take some time and plannign and figuring,  so it's now at the ass end of my ToDo list.

Macro System: This is next after messages.

So, the list is, in order of impotence...er, importance...
1. Messaging system (okay, messages WON'T be deleted). Users will have to choose a username. If that username is already on the list stored online, then (s)he has to choose another one. Otherwise, that name is added. From thereon after, whenever a user opens DeskRog (or types "get messages" or "messages") he will search the messages file online and retrieve all messages for that user, then delete them from the list. To leave a message, it adds to the end of the messages file.

2. Macro system. Users will be able to select from a list of commands (google, open URL, display message, run local file, wait x seconds, etc.) and compile them into a list or "batch file" like in the old DOS days. These batch files will then be stores as macros on the user's computer.

3. Ability to learn and store new abilities/responses online. You will be able to "train" Roger to respond to a statement in a certain way. This will be a simplified version of macros (hence its position after Macros on the list), where users can choose from saying something, running a file, and opening up a URL.

4. Animations! Ooh, Roger can dance, shrug, and pick his nose with the best of 'em! Well, he will soon anyway.

Scid: That's actually a pretty good idea. Like having "run IRC" automatically call up a list of user-defined actions to take. What else would this macro system do besides run files from your computer, so I can further develop this feature?

I also had this idea: Have Desktop Roger leave/receive messages to other users. When someone runs DeskRog for the first time, they could enter in a nickname. DeskRog would check a file on my web site to see if that nickname has already been chosen. If not, then it stores that nickname onto that online file, as well as the user's computer so that the username can be recognized everytime. Then, DeskRog could cheeck another file online to see if there are any messages for him/her. (S)he could also leave messages for other users to receive by writing to this file. After one week, if this message has not been received, then it is erased.
