General Discussion / Re: @AGS

So there are NO other features that AGS could ever possible add, and NOTHING else that AGS could have that would improve it? Ever?

A piece of software is never finished. Once it's "finished" that means it's been abandoned and nobody uses it anymore, nor do enough people care enough to see it updated again. AGS is nowhere close to that point. There's always something that can be done to improve upon it.

I never bought into the empty criticisms some people have of Twitter. Sure, if you only follow average people, that's all the updates you'll see... but if you follow famous people, blogs, organizations, groups, etc., you get some awesome updates.

What do you mean? CJ will stop working on AGS? Or a better, slightly different engine will be created in its place? I'm confused.

I only saw one building, the one on the right. Are there supposed to be buildings in the background?

When it comes to AGS (the software) updates, I'd personally prefer a Twitter feed than wading through the Tech Forum. I've already lost track of which version AGS is at now. :P

I'm exaggerating, but I think dev notes on AGS would be a great use for a Twitter account.

Heh, just when they thought it was over, I stumbled across this gem!

Um... that site actually looks pretty nice. They have an even color scheme, and it pretty much uses the default forum styling. If I had a complaint, it'd be the use of too much orange/brown, and not enough black/gray/something else to break things up.

You're absolutely right, DrewCCU. It dawned on me after I typed that reply, that you'd also need to be a chessmaster. And it's true; if you want to design an AI that's awesome at something, you yourself should be awesome at it, too.

That Navi-Sphere is the worst invention in all of mankind. I wish I had a time machine so I could erase all evidence of it having ever existed.

That's awesome! Huge Trek fan here, and that looks really good. Looks like it could be the cover of a novel that covers the time period you mentioned. ;D

I like your choice, too, Evenwolf, as well as your reasoning. It makes complete sense and would look very nice.

So it all depends on your choice of direction, Ascovel. :) Try out both versions (with each font).

As far as I know, TigSource is a gaming news site. What about it?

If Episode 2 is a fully playable game, then the series might be redeemed. But as it stands now, there isn't much there yet.

LimpishFish: That is awesome! Now I gotta re-watch the first episode! ;D

Right now, the site is just in the conceptual phase. The next step will be to check out potential competition, and to check out ways we'd stand out and offer something different and unique and useful. Thank you guys for the names of those site... keep 'em coming! I want to check them all out, take extensive notes, and see what our site would be able to offer that would make us stand out.

A great comparison I like to use is Facebook vs. MySpace. MySpace was already the leader in social networking, but when Facebook came along, it offered something slightly different: a Wall where you could view all your friends' updates at a glance, and a unique organizational system that blew MySpace out of the water... such that MySpace is now emulating Facebook more and more by the day, which tells you something.

Not that I'm comparing our idea's potential success to that of Facebook's, but as long as we offer something better, it should do well.

Wyz, you give some great ideas. The transition from user to developer is one that we hadn't yet considered, but it would have come up during the planning phase. Not sure if we're going with (A) having a user keep his user profile and create a separate developer profile, or (B) changing his user profile into a developer profile, whereas developers can also utilize the site as a regular user would (commenting, discussion, friending, etc.). I suppose I could also offer the choice between the two, letting the user decide if their developer profile will be separate, or combined.

I love threads like these!

My favorite over-analysis is the Back to the Future trilogy, but nothing more complicated than saying that they were all made with each other in mind (which of course has been debunked by the creators of the film). People used to love claiming that they could see BTTF2 Marty skulking around in the BTTF1 movie...which would've been mind-blowing and totally awesome.

I also like to claim that the 2009 Star Trek movie took place in not only an alternate timeline (after Nero goes back to the 2230s), but an alternate universe as well, where technology developed slightly differently (Nokia still exists, flashy viewscreens, slightly different uniforms, etc.), people look a bit different, and events happened only slightly differently from what we knew (Checkov being slightly older than he should've been, the crew coming together all at once instead of a few at a time, etc.). It's entirely possible that Nero, when he traveled through that black hole, crossed to another universe as well as another time period.

Twitter is mostly a great way to keep up to date with famous people, websites, businesses, etc. @AGS could be a way for us to keep up to date with either AGS the program, the AGS community (games, competitions, etc.), or both.

Nah, kidding. I only started using it a few minutes ago. :D

Why isn't there an AGS twitter account? Somebody should start one up. Somebody important. And no, I can't do it... I'm far too busy. But if there were an @AGS account, I'd definitely follow it.

That background is actually looking good so far... I think the main issue is not so much the perspective (which I actually like), but scaling. The bus seems way too huge in comparison to the building, for starters. Make everything to scale, and your wacky perspectives may work.

And now that I've planted "I like boooobs" into your heads, you can't UN-see it, can you? ;)
