In the beginning, I noticed that everyone had nicknames, so I chose a nickname, but then it took me 7 years to realize that my name was original enough to be unquie!

Heh, same here.

Get a music making program and start experimenting. That's what I did years ago, I have never studied any music theory. I see you know how to play guitar and how to use some of the programs, that's a good start.

Neither did I (at least not formally). For some odd reason, melodies just pop into my head and I plunk them down, along with some parts for other instruments, until I end up making something that sounds pleasing to me.

Then again, I studied piano using the Suzuki method as a kid, and have, as a result, developed such magical powers as perfect pitch and the ability to play just about anything by ear. (I'm still the worst sight-reader in the world, though...)

For The Game That Takes Place on a Cruise Ship, the only reason I even decided to have a "demo" was because I thought I was going to be selling the game as scratchware. The idea of selling the game has been scratched (no pun intended), but the demo has still remained...

In my case, I decided to have my demo as something completely different from the game itself: the main character comes into a computer game character employment office and is interviewed for the leading role in an upcoming amateur adventure. I worked on this demo as if it were a separate game, and when I was finished and it was time to start work on the actual game, I copied all the files for the game's interface and such into a new game. Oh, and I also released the demo's source code, which some people made use of and whose modifications I ended up actually using.

When the game itself is done, I plan to keep both the full game and the demo/source code available for download.

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?
Fri 13/01/2006 19:24:43
I found AGS around the time I was still planning on making Cubert Badbone with SCRAMM but decided that it was useless to wait around and started looking for another engine. So, I downloaded it, played around with it a bit...

AND HATED IT!

Which, of course, led me to use AGAST instead, and then SLUDGE.

And that's my story.

No SLUDGE? :(

It's not up to me to tell you what's right or wrong. You have to figure that out yourself.

Adventures will be back in the mainstream, but that might be after armageddon.

Nah... after armageddon, people will probably want to play MORE shoot-em-up games...

Okay, I'll play.

1. Well, I DO rather like Cowboy Bebop.
2. Richard Longhurst and the Box That Ate Time
3. Mostly download... I really don't buy all that many games.

Next!

1. Where do babies come from?
2. If a tree falls down in the forest and no one is around to hear it, what colour is the tree?
3. Name five South American countries and your third grade teacher.

I like how the second result on the list for "failure" is Michael Moore's website.

I'll only change my last name if I find a suitable husband whose last name is cooler than "Kiai".

Well... there IS a point in that you can (almost) always turn off a game's music, but you can't really turn off the graphics (unless you fumble around with your eyes closed... hey, now THAT would be an interesting gaming experience).
#273
I think someone should make a game about SCRAMM.

Al Lowe has a few up on his website.

Fatman was still a very professionally carried out project, and if the commercial aspect of it has discouraged you, we're all sad to miss the prospect of more released Socko-titles.

Hear, hear.

Thanks for your well-reasoned argument above, by the way.

I've got Phantom Mansion Origins on my phone. It's a nice little RPG/puzzle game. I quite like it.

Well, I guess I'm a retard, then. Although I understand why the pursuit of money above all other goals is wrong, I have trouble grasping the concept of money in general being evil. Can someone please explain it to me?

By the way, how does txt-style spelling get edited around here? Is it automatic, or do the mods* do it manually? At this other forum I visit, the mods adopt the alter ego of a little spelling fairy comes around and edits people's txt-style posts while inserting snarky comments at the end. That always amuses me. However, said mods have been a little lax with the spelling fairy these days. That makes me sad.

* I'm talking about moderators, not m0ds.

I forgot to add that I dislike Christians who think drinking alchohol is sinful

How 'bout a non-Christian who thinks drinking alcohol is sinful?

If you'd like some input from the SLUDGE side of things, I'd be more than happy to offer my services.
