I'm totally in, even if it means telling some white lies at work. "Foot surgery" indeed. :-,

I couldn't resist posting this here. A very talented friend of mine put together some Spooks "box art" for me:

Fits a standard DVD case. Now you can give the gift of Spooks!

Heh, I saw Spooks on that site a while ago but I never thought to try an online translation. Here's what I got this time:

QuoteSpooks sees hereto supreme , while recently vyprodukovala scene about enginu AGS. Negotiation to within černobílou , nearly styled advent jež since prime spurt prepossess stylish plus stylish humour , in particular then however imagination , with like author model quaffs , where to sportsman jiggles , plus statures které within nich meet. Story them situován up worldlings dead , where apprehension " here we suffer grief and pain " similarly mysteriózní , like them rest sake living creature. Mainsail hero to coincidentally pretty well up rukou malá akvarijní dovetail plus aims není nth jiného , than secure her strings sake survival plus attempt understand within hers specimen , while what the heart-blood actually them. What everything to odehrává within space jakéhosi posmrtného zábavního park , where to dá eke out unwrap switchback , merry-go-round Scary go - fleece ", or not but that waterworks plná slzí. Aromatically utmost settings them next grafické working. Author with sensitive rozkreslil discrete end within černobílé inker scale plus breath them atmosphere kterou by byla mischief si nevychutnat.

Hey, sounds good to me.Ã,  8)

I should add "plus stylish humour" to my completed games thread.

Looks like the editor gave me 8/10 and the readers gave me 9.14/10. Does this mean I have a secret Czech fan base? My life just keeps getting weirder.

Oh, speaking of creepy, they've already got two posts about Skyward...which is probably more than I've posted about it on the forums.

If it were socially acceptable, I'd probably wear this hat everywhere. Well, maybe not if it were 1920 and I was accused of committing a great train robbery. Seriously, I think they could just about lock you up for wearing pinstripes back then.

This looks fantastic. You should be seriously proud of yourself for the visual style. :) The animations look superb too. That is one carefree little booger.

Finally, eleven months after its release, here's your chance to vote for Spooks.

Based on what reviewers and other community members have told me, I think Spooks should be considered for the following categories.

Best Story
Ã,  Ã, All the action takes place in a completely original setting, putting a new spin on everyday things like life, death, and whatever falls in between.

Best Dialogue Writing
Ã,  Ã, I've gotten all sorts of great feedback about the conversations in this game. Sarcastic, witty, and sometimes laugh out loud funny, harrassing the citizens of the Land of the Dead never felt so rewarding.

Best Player Character: Mortia
Ã,  Ã, For her limited number of pixels, Mortia is a complicated character. At the start of the game, her caustic wit dismantles everything in its path. However, her cautious joy at finding a living thing transforms her over the course of the game. Eventually it becomes clear that she may not be completely hopeless...just lost.

Best Non-Player Character: Spooks
Ã,  Ã, Ten pixels of life in a completely dead world are enough to send one Ghoul on the ride of her life. The game's namesake isÃ, cute, resilient, and a bit too savvy to be an aquarium dweller. It's up to you to decide how much Spooks knew from the beginning. Ã,

Best Music
Chris (The Scorposer) really captured the feel of the game with five original music tracks, which have been compared to the work of Danny Elfman. For me, the music became a part of the characters and the whole world, especially since the distinctive melody was modified to match Mortia's surroundings.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Limbo

Nice to see someone else going with the "death is kind of cute" theme. :-, Good luck with this, I'll certainly play it when it's done. I'd probably play it for the voice acting alone, that was the best part of Secrets.

How about Peasant's Quest? Hilarious parser-type game brought to you by the good people at homestarrunner.com.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Aristocrat & Fairies WIP

I think the picture would look more unified if she were looking to the left, i.e. at her reflection. Those poor fairies with the mirror are wasting a lot of energy for her to be looking the other way! :)

Alternatively you could flip the mirror fairies horizontally and move them to the right of the image, although I'm not sure what that would do to your composition.

Otherwise, the colours and shading look spot-on, I especially like the subtle texture you've added to the wallpaper. Good luck getting this finished. :)

Heh, I'm glad you like the sandwich one, Fluke. As we say at the paper, "There's a joke in there somewhere."

SmootH: most of the cartoonists don't actually generate content. They mostly sit around and radiate artistic ability that puts everyone else to shame. Occasionally we tell them to draw things like a giant hoagie crashing into the earth just so we can see what it would look like. :P

On a completely unrelated note, I keep hoping MrColossal will post in one of my comic threads, as I am an appreciator of his pixel comics. :-,

I must believe in all that Divine Light jazz. :-\

I imagine they play divine light jazz in God's waiting room.

Very nice game, and impressive graphics to boot. :) The puzzles were quite difficult, but the neat visual effects more than made up for it. I'm really curious where you're taking this story, good luck with continuing it.

@Yutzster: Thanks, that's a real compliment. :) I've been told my style is similar to Family Guy, the Simpsons, etc., but it's not really based on that. I think googly eyes are a fairly safe bet in creating cartoon characters.

@Sheepisher: Thank you! Heh, you always have such nice things to say, I wish you'd post more often. :) Quite a few people at my school said the atheist dude either reminded them of themselves or someone they knew, it's kinda funny.

@MashPotato: Thank you muchly. I had fun exaggerating the poses of the little kids in the play comic. :-,

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. :) It's really nice to hear.

@Sergio, Boney, and Mr. Hyde: Merci. :)

@evenwolf: Wow, I almost didn't post the one with the tour guide. Thanks for the kind words. Haha, I've read "Life is Hell." Matt Groening's early stuff is so cynical, I love it. That's a real compliment. :-,

@Mikko: I had the idea for the theatre thing for months before I found a way to put it all together. I liked the idea of little kids putting on a play about stuff they didn't understand and screwing it up horribly.

@ManicMatt: Although it's hard to see, the pirate is holding a paintbrush in the third panel. In the last panel you see someone's drawn a squid onto the lens of the telescope. I'll let you connect the dots. :-,

P.S. I liked your comic too, more for the crazy photoshopping than anything else.

@Scorposer: Thanks man! Aw, sorry to hear the same thing happened to you at a dance. I'd feel pretty bad if all of the terrible things in these comics had happened to you. :P

@m0ds: If you get a Gizmo Bot make sure you get a magnet-proof one, otherwise I imagine they're pretty much unstoppable. Also, as the oldest of four, I can safely say that children are the exact same way.

@Yutzster: Yeah, I'm not clever enough to invent something like the Darwin fish, but I'm glad you liked it. :-,

@Radiant: Ah, FSM. There was a big push to teach that in schools when there was talk of including "intelligent design" stuff in America. That's what happens when you don't listen to science...spaghetti monsters take over and before you know it they're letting dogs marry cats. :P

For those who don't know, I'm a staff writer/cartoonist for a comedy paper. I've been pretty busy since the last time I posted my comics (here are 14 I've done since September). Believe it or not, I've actually implemented a lot of the suggestions I got from these forums. For example, the characters now have body language! Yes!

Note: some of these have grown-up language, a lighthearted take on religion, or bad things happening to googly-eyed people. Read at your own risk; I make no apologies. ;)

Here we go!

The first of what would be several bad-things-happening-to-cute-children comics.

I had to learn how to draw a real bear for this comic. I'll let you decide if I came close to succeeding.

Aw, and the guy on the left just wanted to read his book.

See, the clapping adds a whole 'nother layer of awful.

Sorry about the crap quality of this one, not sure what happened to the file. It was inspired by reading too many Perry Bible Fellowhip comics.

Lots of accurate tidbits for you Egypt freaks out there, right down to the missing eyebrows on the guy in the last panel. I'm serious, their gods frowned upon eyebrows.

Not quite outside the realm of possibility. Dilbert thrives on this principle.

Some people didn't get this one. Hint: David Blaine is there to get his picture taken.

A new take on an old joke, plus profanity. :)

This one's a little weak, but I had been reading a lot of Dilbert and it leaked through into the comic.

Stupid space filler thing we cartoonists are famous for. Gaping holes in the layout beware.

I think this is my favourite of the batch. Once again, the "it could happen" principle.

This made a lot of people want to buy a Gizmo Bot. Careful, you can't turn off its love!

Popular with the jaded college student crowd, i.e. our readers. :-,

Hints & Tips / Re: Spooks

Cool, thanks for giving it another shot. :)

Yes! The shroud of secrecy is finally lifted! Seriously, everyone should check out this game. I don't know how Vince came up with the dual interface, but it works seamlessly...and if you play the game long enough it actually starts to seem natural. Careful, though, this game is dangerously addicting.

I hope everyone else enjoyed "sanou" and "rightMind" as much as I did. Check out some of "rightMind's" photoshop entries carefully to really get your mind blown.  :)

Who's a bimbo? I'm majoring in neuroscience and I make computer games for fun. Doesn't get me a whole lot of dates, let me tell you. :P

Anyway, I just thought I'd point out that Dart and I appear to have the same haircut.

I'm pretty sure it means we can both set fires with our minds. I bet if we teamed up we could take out SSH's car. ;) :P

Hmm...

...it made for a fun Halloween costume, anyway. :P

I've got nothing on Emi, though. ;)

In the first image you can see the reflection of the wall corner in the desk, so the desk almost looks see-through.

Ha ha ha, wow. That made my day...slightly terrifying. ;)
