Critics' Lounge / Squigglevision Graphics
Sat 19/01/2013 15:12:36
I've been experimenting with graphical style over the past year or so, and lately I've been inspired by "Squigglevision" cartoons like Dr. Katz, the first season of Home Movies, etc. Plus, I bought a new graphics tablet that's big enough I can actually use it.

I made a little mock-up in ags:

Or if you don't want to download the zip: (Just imagine the lines wiggling ;))

I've heard that this style in cartoons is distracting, Would this be too distracting for an AGS game? Opinions wanted :)

So, I received my copy, and I must say...

I have a total crush on Susan Ashworth...!!

In all seriousness, the immersion is superb, and the whole game is simply one of a kind. Thanks for making such a great game.

If anyone wants to use this:

http://bluecup.suitorgames.com/

I've opened a part of my hosting plan to the ags community.

No sign-up is required. Only zip, rar, and 7z files can be uploaded at the moment. Hopefully no one will abuse it. :)

It says there's a 64 MB limit. But it's actually more than that. PM me if you have any problems.

It's definitely good if the change is for the better, and it inspires you to release the game. I want to play it, now, so you better release it! :D

I've been told a lot of my problem is in my head, lol. For instance, me looking back at your posts, I don't see anything wrong. But my posts are unbearable to look at. (I can't hardly believe I'm writing this one, haha).

Nevertheless, I think it is good to be embarrassed by it, but not obsessive like I've been.  :-[

On a lighter note,

I still haven't grown a mustache, though.

I can grow one, but it's very funny looking, and it doesn't connect with the rest of my facial hair! :D

I came around in 2007, so I haven't been around for too long, but I know exactly how you feel.

I still consider myself somewhat of a newcomer. I've never really been too social around here, or anywhere in my life. But it seems I tried too hard or something a few years back. I still cringe when I look back at my first posts. Hell, I cringe when I look at my most recent posts, lol. I guess, what I'm trying to say is that I'm ashamed of my behavior over the years.

Seeing as how I am a Kentuckian, and this game looks awesome, I might just give it a go! Thanks for the suggestion.

General Discussion / Re: AGS for android?

Try this thread: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=44768.0

Takes a few steps, but I got it working on my daughter's Nabi 2 pretty well.

I totally just ordered the the 2-disc DVD-Rom. Thanks!  :-D

^^ Technically I'm double-posting here. Hehe.

I had some spare time, and for a very very late Christmas gift, I did some voicing for this game.

I never used this function in AGS before, and I figured I'd see what I could do. Bare in mind, I have a horrible Kentucky accent!  :-[

Get it here! Or see first post.

I made this at the beginning of 2012 under the name Maddoxic... Let's just say that alter ego was an experiment, or that I have a split personality disorder.(laugh)

Nevertheless, suggested categories might be: Best short game, music, whatever you like. Best game with crap graphics?

You can get it here!

I was wondering what happened to this, and I'm glad to see it's back in production. I've been waiting for an update on something seeps, but this greater news, haha.

General Discussion / SOPA and PIPA
Wed 18/01/2012 05:44:30

This
has just been brought to my attention while trying to access wikipedia. It seems like a lot of websites are protesting SOPA and PIPA. Personally, I think this blackout thing is a pretty awesome idea.

You gotta love the U.S. Government  ::)

Thanks for the opinions! And I'll remember to use a more neutral background. I'm contemplating on somehow importing the body parts into flash, and animating with the bones feature so I would only need one photo to chop up. Also, this would add more frames while keeping somewhat the same style. I'll post soon with a finished example.

The only downfall is that I hate how flash handles.

EDIT:After a being in flash and cleaning up the final animation for quite a while, this is what I came up with:

It's very much different than the first, I know, and it lost a lot of it's original style. But I just might like it better myself.

And an experiment with a background:

#34
So, I've been planning something, and I've been experimenting a lot with style. I'm crap at animation, and I like the idea of using digitized videos/photos. (A process that I've found fairly simple). So far I've done nothing I like with backgrounds, but as for characters I was thinking something along the line of this very quick example:

Something easily editable with a drastic reduction in color. If I were to draw and animate this from scratch it would take me at least 10x longer. (Just the way my brain works). Adding more frames is something I've contemplated on, but in my opinion, seeing this in a test game with drastic scale changes, isn't making much of a difference.

I was also considering making the game black and white. So early on in planning. I just need some opinions.   ;)

Reality-on-the-Norm / Re: Resource depot

I was in a super Reality on the Norm mood today, so I recorded a short "real" instrument version of the theme.

I played a bit of it in my spare time, and so far I love it! I missed the real old-school ags days, but I have played many games from the era, and to tell you the truth, they're my favorites. I am a black line fan.  :=

Great job, sir. I will finish playing as soon as I have the spare time. I look forward to seeing more games from ya!

Wow, I must say I didn't expect such good things to be said, haha.

Are you kidding me? That was a great sound for a home setup, a lot better than the majority of studios round here. Very mature sound, wasn't what I expected. The vocals were very well suited, would fit in well in the modern metal/hardcore scene. The composition was also pretty spot on, I couldn't pick any flaws in your songwriting.

I don't see why you couldn't sell this, it may take a band and a lot of gigging but it's definitely marketable.

Did i say i really like it?  :=

Thanks! That means a lot. Unfortunately, I'm unable to find people that can play decently where I live. And the one's that do, want a J-break every ten minutes, haha. Believe me I would want nothing more than to have a band and gig. I used to a few years ago, and well... let's just say everyone got distracted.

I would spend at least 7 eurobucks 50 on it without hesitation.

That's how much I enjoy it. I've bookmarked it, even, and Imma spam it on twitterses now.

Awesome, a twitter spam on my behalf? I'm honored :P It does make me happy you would spend money on it. One day down the road I might offer a cheap psychical version duplicated from some nice duplication service. But I'm so poor, I don't know when that day will be.  :=

It sounds bitchin'. You should really consider putting your music in some games! Can't really think of too much in the way of criticism.
Yes I have been considering that. Seeing as how for some reason I cannot seem to ever finish a full game, I'd definitely be interested in supplying at least the music part of it. :D

Critics' Lounge / Idustrial/Rock/Metal Music
Sat 30/07/2011 17:34:01
I started this one-song-a-week project. It's gained a bit of attention, but I have no real source of honest opinions because social music networks are all about the follow-me-I'll-follow-you sort of thing. So, I figured I would post here in the critic's lounge to see what the AGS crowd had to say about it.

Here's the link to all the music: http://revoltattherobotfactory.blogspot.com/

I've been recording music for years, and I don't have an awesome home setup. But with what I do have, I still know there's room for improvement.
