Critics' Lounge / Character "Reinvisioned"

I'm trying to flesh out a style for a total reboot of an old project.

My main concern with this is what to do with the hidden arm, but I'm sure there are other things that need improving.

As always I appreciate the C&C.   ;D

EDIT TO ADD: Another character with views...

I'm bored, and  I may as well post some pics from a friend's birthday party that I hosted.

Look at those dust particles... I mean orbs...

Note to self: Don't do this when cameras are present, and post it in the AGS forums...

Reality-on-the-Norm / Re: Project - Recap

IMO The game based recap would be the best choice if it didn't contain any puzzles (more like an interactive movie)... So a combo of the last two? I think the text based recap should still be done no matter what.

I only say this because, Alot of the old ron games hardly (if at all) work on my newer PC, and it might be good for people, who can't play the old games, to get the feel of the ron world, and it's history in a visual/interactive sense with the new more compatible AGS engine.

Wow, RoN doesn't seem so far away now  :P

Did you have the drums slightly panning left and right? Something about it felt like it was moving slightly, like it was recorded live.

They were recorded in a studio, and that might have something to do with it.
Here's the website: http://www.betamonkeymusic.com

and the actual loops I used from the sample download: http://www.betamonkeymusic.com/V10.html

thanx for the c&c, I sometimes get to paranoid about quality. But after reconsideration, the music I'm writing is merely influenced by pop-punk and not punk, and I think I've decided to stay with my Drum Werks I. As for the playing in this, I don't play this crappily, and I do damned good for serious endeavors (and no offence taken, btw :P).

But the sound quality was the only thing I was worried about. I just want to record something that people will listen to without saying "man that sounds like it was recorded in a toilet."

As for the drums being... well loops. I don't know a drummer that plays anymore, so If it sounds ridiculous its all I can do.  ;D

I've been playing with some guitar tones, and drum loops. I'm planning a punk-ish album (going back to my roots for memories' sake), and I'm thinking of getting a new Drum Loops set from beta monkey.

Anyway here's a sample of the drums in a short recording I did in about 10 minutes (never mind the playing).

This was just a quick test with a sample of the Beta Monkey Punk Drums, I need critique on the quality more than anything.

General Discussion / Re: Talking animations.

I'd would probably stick with some sort of movement while talking. Of course, a visual example would help people to help you better.  :P

I would try it if I weren't married, and I don't think it's complete crap. I'd say it would work, I mean if you think of it as a tourist scam (sort of the same thing, not really).

I think if you keep at something, like this even, its like an "art form" that you would eventually get good at. So yeah, I believe this this might have something to it... unless the girl read the book too, lol.

Otherwise, true or false, crap or not, it's still interesting.

Nice, reminds me of music from Final Fantasy VII.  The slow intro is a tad bit misleading, but when everything kicks in it sounds superb.

Okay, an edit trying to fix a few things mentioned. I suppose the light source is coming from "the camera" so I tried to fix.

Shortened the neck, did some hair paintover (used my wife's hair as reference without her knowing).

Thanks for the suggestions so far!  ;D

I've been working on some things, and molding out a character. This would be a portrait that I first "sketched" on a the pc with a mouse, then shrunk down, and did the ole tracing thing. I've been experimenting with different methods; I think I could improve a lot easier with this method...

and the 'digital sketch' I started with...

I've done this before with my avatar, but with a scanned paper sketch. I used the hell out of the burn and dodge tool in gimp. It seems more time consuming to me, but it feels easier.

Absolutely amazing! Loved the graphics; that's some talent there. It's so trippy, and I can't wait for the whole thing.

I remember those blood lust games from YEAARRS ago. I loved 'em, even though I was only ten years old. (sorry I tried to resist mentioning). :P

Well, sadly this project is pretty much dead (pun not intended lol). It was on my old pc, and it got knocked of the table and the hard drive was not salvageable. I had found the file where I had uploaded it online, then lost it again due to a crash on my laptop. Now i can't find where I uploaded it. Through much frustration and work on this game it was hard to let go of, but I had to. I had no other choice.

If I were to ever find where I uploaded it (if it isn't cached out) then I might reconsider starting this mo fo back up.

So sorry for all who have looked forward to it. I guess this needed explaining anyway.

Nice game! I like it even though I'm stuck.

Spoiler

I got the skull mask with the rubber bands through it, the black robe, the gloves, and I can't seem to find out what's next.

also a bug:

Spoiler

-You can keep using the clay on the skull, and giving it to the girl, which causes a loop, and gives you an extra mask at some point.

-May I suggest taking the debug keys out of the global script? (so no one can cheat)  :P

I'm enjoying it so far, hope to see more games from you!

Thanks for all the comments, glad to hear people liked it!

Man don't take the whole thing down just cause somebody said some insults, Frig 'em. No matter what you do whether it's music, art, or developing games, there's always going to be some complete asshole to destroy your ego.

IMHO, you might be doing other people, who actually liked it, an injustice.

But that's just me; your game and your decision.

Hope to see you continue making games  ;D

Sheesh, more bugs than I expected. I'll get on these and have a new version up soon.

Thanks for all the help and nice comments, btw.  ;D
