Wow, those crotch pixels are really going to town.

Miss Kiss is punished karmically for her cannibalism.

Didn't think it'd be that morbid, eh? ;)

She's gorgeous.  It's a really unique way to draw a mermaid, I'm quite impressed.  I'm sure you could have a future in illustration, if you wanted.

I don't actually have any crits about the drawing, I just wanted to point out that I like the way you did the outlines.  It's very "edgy" in comics nowadays to do outlines in a darker version of the fill colour or even with a gradient in them, as opposed to just using black.  As I recall they're called "knockout" lines or something.  I keep trying to replicate the style, to limited success.

Do you use the pen tool to get those neat lines?  I try to use the paintbrush tool in photoshop and everything I draw turns out fuzzy. :P

Just finished the game.

It looks I'll be sleeping in my little fort with all the lights on tonight.

If only colouring had been this exciting in Kindergarden...I think they might have sent Mordalles to the principal's though. ;)

Hey all, I've just started working on the sequel to Spooks (Tentative name: Skyward), and although I don't have much to show, here's the start of a background and the player character.
That background is not wide enough by one pixel!!! HORRORS!!!Ã,  :=

Geez, tough crowd... ;)

Seriously, I'm glad to see a few more people have added their artwork.  Everything looks really promising, keep up the good work guys!

General Discussion / Re: Decisions, decisions!

Heh, I wish boredom was my problem.Ã,  I find that as soon as I get started on something, there's part of me that says it's pointless, or not funny, or never going to get me anywhere.Ã,  I feel like I've hit a stalemate with a lot of my projects, but it's mostly because I never think anything I do is good enough.Ã,  Inspires progress, I guess, but it's mighty draining.

Maybe we should have a thread where you post if you need encouragement.Ã,  Wait, that's what the GIP is really for, isn't it? :P

I downloaded the screenshot and it looks cool. Waht are the psychological/mental themes in the game? Why is it for 18+ anyhoo?

I imagine it has to do with whatever's blurred out in the second screenshot. ;)

Lookin' good, Mordalles!  I really enjoyed Hallway of Adventures and can't wait to hear the rest of the story.

I'll just point out that after seeing The Ivy's post in the recruiting thread about needing someone to program Spooks, I volunteered and everything worked out marvelously well even though we'd never spoken previously.

And now I'm going through the code one line at a time to try to absorb some scripting knowledge from it.  :-,

I think ProgZmax's idea is a good one, though.  Also, Indicating the game's progress like in the GIP (Story 30%, Music, 70% etc.) might help people judge if it's a serious project or not.

You play as Psiman, a little boy who up until recently has been very, very dead.Ã,  More details to come...I've got to get to work.Ã,  Cheers! :)

Hehe, for some reason ProgZ's reminds me of a toy called Polly Pocket they had back in my day.  It would've been funny if they'd made an orphanage one, actually.

Oh, in conclusion:

Best idea: ProgZmax

Best functionality: Privateer Puddin'

Best design: ProgZmax

Best technique: Traveler

I loved this game!Ã,  It was wonderfully different from most of the games out there, and I liked how you had to pay attention to detail if you wanted to win.Ã,  Puzzles, art, animation, humour...all were great and made it hard to believe this was an OROW game.

The little robot reminded me of a certain type of enemy in Duke Nukem II...was that intentional?Ã,  After a while I found myself annoyed by its cocky swagger, although the robot didn't actually have a personality. :PÃ,

I'd be very curious to see what kind of game you could make with a bit more time.Ã,  Thanks for making this one. :)

Unfortunately my job as a bar wench prohibits me from attending this year, although I'd really have loved to go.  Y'all have fun, and make sure to take lots of pictures.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like your style.Ã,  Good luck with this, I'd like to see your name added to the list of girls who make wicked-awesome games. ;)

Just some ideas (thought I'd include a "before and after"):

She didn't strike me as looking especially feminine.Ã,  The big problems were the heavy shading around the eyes, the prominent jaw, and the "line" mouth.Ã,

In my edit I also changed the shape and colour of the eyes a bit, raised her eyebrows, widened her neck, rounded out the shadows in her face, raised her shoulders, and cut down on the heavy nose shading.

Hope this helps!

Wow, some great edits there, thanks for the advice.Ã,  I didn't end up changing much, mostly in the interests of time and simplicity, but I've got some cool ideas for the other characters now.Ã,  Besides, Daylily isn't going to be the player character in this game.Ã,  Ã, :o

I tweaked the skirt and the arm, and made created a more saturated version:

I almost like the "unsaturated" version better, but I noticed that on some screens it made her look really bland.

@Evil: I tried to shorten the arm a bit, good call there.

@Drawken: Wow, some interesting colour and proportion ideas there.Ã,  I think the high waist suggests more of a preteen than a little girl, though, so I kept mine the way it was.Ã,

@Sergio: Yeah, she's a lot more tan in this version (but hey, she's been out in the sun :P).Ã,  I also decided to make her a brunette, since the main character will have black hair.Ã,  Hopefully these colours are less blinding than the original :P.

@KhrisMUC: Interesting edit, but I think it makes her look older than she is (I'm thinking 8 or 9, plus or minus 500 years).Ã,  Also, I'm not such a fan of the big hair look :P.Ã,  I like the pose though, so I'll keep in mind if I'm designing any slightly older female characters.

@Krysis: Yeah, I did try to make her look slightly tribal in this version.Ã,  If you happen to play Spooks, it would help explain her current colouring.

@Skurwy: Awesome edit!Ã,  She looks so brooding and mysterious, it's fantastic.Ã,  I'm also glad you like this "style," it'll be fun to design all the characters along these lines.Ã,  I like what you did with the part in the hair, I'll probably add that at some point.Ã,  As for the two extra face shades, I'm not adding them at this point since the rest of her only has 3 colours of shading at most.Ã,

@ProgZ: Sorry, the big feet are here to stay :P.Ã,  I think it makes her look more childish, which is why I didn't do anything to the waist either.Ã,  Thanks for the input though.

@dsg_charly: Word.

Cool, I think those are all the changes I'm going to make for now.Ã,  Now, for the other characters... :)Ã,

Cool, thank you all for the advice.Ã,  Here's the changed version:

I've gotten rid of the ridiculous numbers of shades and given her a more relaxed stance.Ã,  I also toned down the sheen on her hair, and got rid of the black outline around her face.Ã,  Although the eyes and feet are rather large, I like the style and it'll be consistent with the rest of the characters in the game.Ã,

Seaduck, thanks so much for the edit, I nabbed a few of your ideas.Ã,  The "shading" on the skirt is actually just a design, so hopefully that's clearer in this version.Ã,  I'm hesitant to add shadows from the right or left just because it makes it hard to deal with light sources.

How's she looking now?

A familiar face, for those who have played Spooks.Ã,  I guess this can only mean one thing... ;DÃ,

This game is going to be in 640 x 400, hopefully so I can showcase some decent graphics this time around.

I'm trying to come up with a style with a decent level of detail that won't take me forever to animate.Ã,

Any advice is appreciated, although I'm looking for ideas on how to make the face fit in more with the rest of the spriteÃ, (The face has a black outline, while everywhere else I just used dark colours).Ã,

Cheers!

Getting ready for the ball.Ã,  Couldn't be bothered to tidy up my room, apparently.

And 3 signs that adventure games secretly control my life:

As long as I don't start asking people to call me 'Rosella' I think it's okay.

Thank you very much for the hints. I'm going to check the game out again after I get home.

I apologize, Erin. I visited the XII Games website again, and I see where I made the mistake. I'm terribly sorry!

I am having a blast with the game, though, if it's any consolation...Ã,  ;)

Ha ha, no worries.  I was just teasing.  Glad you're enjoying the game, let me know what you think of it once you finish. :)
