Very cute little game! The art style was very original, and I really liked your choice of palette for the backgrounds. I liked the trees and shrubs especially, and I think they did a good job of making the character sprites stand out.

Great work for a first game. The only thing that really caught my eye was the grammar, but that could all be fixed by enlisting some beta testers. You're right that the puzzles were easy, but it's a good way of making sure people play through to the end of the game (although others may disagree with me here). Anyway, I really hope to see some future work from you. :)

I'm going to be honest, I really like the idea of us having internet rivals.

Miez, thanks as always for the kind words. :)

And Chris, I was going to tell them all about your opium addiction, but I figured I'd save that for the next posting. ;)

Hey kaputtnik, thank you so much for going through the trouble of reading that.  :D

Wow, that sounds like an awfully complicated account of the game. They probably put more thought into the characters than I did! I was a little worried they'd start looking for political messages or something, but I'm glad they seem to have limited their analysis to the game itself. And I'm glad they seemed to enjoy it. :)

Also, I'm not gonna lie, I'm quite happy that I now know how to say "rapid fire gun" in Czech. ;)

Sythe, there is actually some method to my madness. The Queen, feeling cornered, decides to offer a compromise to Little Girl so that they can "rule Underland together." So she describes what is actually a very fair system of government (federal laissez-faire, with the exception of some social services). But you know, as a faithful daughter of the republic, Little Girl can't allow that to happen. ;)

A very nice article!  Thanks for sharing (with us and the world!)

Thanks Darth! :) I like your moustache, by the way. ;)

Erm...I outed us. Sorry!

I take full responsibility for any gate-crashing and/or pranks by rival adventure game developers at the next Mittens. ;)

Thanks everybodeeee. :)

AGA, Heh, next time I go insane and decide to make a game at Mittens (possibly next year) I'll be sure to cast you. You might have been spared the experience of faking an accent this time around, but I'll see what I can come up with in the next few months. Also, AGA and FSi, thanks very much for figuring out that translation for me. I was relieved that it was positive. When I saw my game surrounded by Russian text I had a small heart attack.

DutchMarco, heh, well, I suppose we'll have to disagree. I don't think there's anything really offensive about the game; it's just making fun of everyone, and it's so absurd I don't think anyone would take it seriously. Besides, I can't really insult a nation that doesn't exist any more, right? ...Right?

Ali, wow, thank you so much, that's really sweet of you to say. I did have a lot of fun drawing them, and I'm glad you liked the style (and that means a lot coming from you :)). And yeah, Mittens is a week of solid fun, I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go.

Akatosh, thank you greatly, I really like that expression you used. :) I wanted to play your demake game but it seems to have...vanished from the face of the earth? Anyway, I hope it sees the light of day again some time, it looked like you guys put a lot of work into it.

miguel, heh, I just hope my name isn't on some list now...

Zyargeikunn & kaputtnik, those comments both made me smile. More Marx jokes, I say! :D

robvalue, you're quite welcome, sir! :)

Lay(about), I told you that was classified! Er, all right. Look. I *was* at Guatanamo Bay, but they locked me in this cell with only a pen and a newspaper, and I realized that if I looked through the keyhole...

Dualnames, how much have you had to drink? :P

Edit: Whoa, another Russian review! Thankfully positive...and masterfully translated. :)

Edit edit: Um...does anyone here speak Czech? This is a longer review of the game than I would have thought possible.

Edit edit edit: Yay, Little Girl is on internet TV!

Last time I did this people said I looked like Frank Zappa.  :'(

Whoa, mega feedback! Thanks for taking the time to play! :) I'm glad so many of you enjoyed the game (And that I didn't butcher the Alice story too much for anyone ;)).

And many, many thanks to those of you who volunteered to be voice acting guinea pigs. I want you to know that I have trouble killing you each and every time I play the game. ;)

Eric, you're like the first one to comment on the moustache thing, but it might be my favourite part of the game. Well, no, it's all my favourite part. Also: I'd love to see a splash screen for "Soviet McGee's Alice" someday. :)

Edmundo, Cameron, Jared, m0ds, Buckethead, and Adamski, thank you very much!

Scorposer, haha, thanks ;). Totally digging your signature, by the way.

Miez, you already know you're my hero.

DasJ, ah well, thanks for playing anyhoo. : ,

Chrille, haha, sorry about that! Glad it all worked out in the end though.

Esseb, thanks for the kind words! Seriously, we'll have to actually talk at the next Mittens. :)

Dave, long live communist prosperity! ...and I swear I'll get back to work right away, Mr. Boss Sir!

Yarooze, your comments made me laugh for realz. Glad you made it through victorious!

Ultra Magnus, I appreciate the flattering (though disturbing) visual imagery. :P Yeah, seriously, let us know where you're stuck and someone will give you a hand.

Strange Visitor, you have now permanently earned my respect. :D I cracked up reading your post. Oh, and...just in case, I wouldn't recommend eating or closing your eyes for long periods of time during the next 36 hours. They may have done something to your air supply.

Iv4n, Ah well, I'm no actress. But you're right that she was supposed to sound kind of soulless. Glad you enjoyed the game all the same. :)

Creed, indeed, you so fat. And I may have given the sprite red hair just for you. ;)

Grundislav, whaaaaat? This is seriously your first collaboration? Whoa, I feel special. :) And Magic Smiling Cat totally stole the show. You should grow a moustache like that.

Lay, don't call in the airstrike just yet.

Thanks again, everyone!

P.S. All the pseudo-communist comments you're leaving just crack me up...this thread is great! Keep it coming, comrades! ;)

P.P.S. Look what I found: A bad Russian translation of a review about a game written to sound like a bad Russian translation. Circle complete!

edit: oh also, did you make Magic Smiling cat's mustache not sync up with his fading because the fading of the Chesire Cat was so terrible in the original?

I wish! I think to be honest we just accepted that a lot of this game would be a little rough around the edges, but it's okay, because it fits with the whole "confused Soviet knockoff" thing.

Also, Eric, I've watched that video like 5 times already and I still crack up every time I hear, "I can't prrrrint." :)
#71
Thanks guys!  ;D

Incidentally, the game makes a lot more sense if you know what went into it. ;)

Aww, thanks for the support, dudes. Gypsysnail, I sent you a PM for you to read at your leisure. :)

Mods, luckily for us they extended the deadline to Sunday, so we should have Little Girl done on time. Grundy's been slaving away at the coding, and I finished the last of the art today. All that's left is to implement the voice talent. :)

P.S. When will the Chateau Macabre outtakes reel be ready? I can't wait to see it. :)

(And Radiant, I think you should ;) ).
#75
Thanks everybody! :D (And Miez, as you know, you are my hero).

No Little Nemo references here...I still need to get around to reading that.

And yarooze, your comment made my day. :)

Regarding the release date: the deadline for the contest is Sunday, so we're gunning for that (Grundislav has been kind enough to do the programming, and m0ds has already donated a delightful and demented MIDI track).

Oh man, I'm in this competition too. It's on! ;)

But seriously, great work. I can't wait to see the final version.

Ivy's space shennanigans.. loving picture the title scores it.
??? Is that a pun on the Soviet-twist Ivy's putting on her game? If not, please explain because the sentence doesn't register with me.....

I didn't go to space. Did I? Goddamn red wine night...

Guess I better not fuck this up then, eh? ;)

Oh my god, that was fantastic. And yes, that is what she said.

Seriously, every scene in that movie made me smile. Of course the adventure game key puzzle thing made it for me, but all the little details Mark managed to include will keep me nostalgic for a long time. Not only is it a great video, but it's a lovely memento of the chateau and the surrounding countryside (not to mention the Tipi bar...) ;)

Mark, thanks again for the opportunity to act in your film. I was almost afraid to ask you if I could have a part (I don't think I had even talked to you yet), and then you told me I had a character who would reveal a big part of the plot. Having never acted in anything before (unless you count last year's Mittens video), I was a bit nervous, but seeing how much everyone laughed at the dailies put my fears to rest. Now my mom is showing it to everyone and there's nothing I can do. :)

And hey, I'll admit...I've watched it through twice today. Aww, Mittens...I'm missing everyone already. :}
