Very sad!  May she rest in peace.

Vend it Ralph?

Dealing with the issue of rights might be a problem (sell the game and it will be a problem!), but the last few episodes in each of the Sierra series need a demake.

Congratulations! :) Tried them for a few minutes, and looking forward to seeing more later...

(laugh)  Dang, it would be great to have a "like" button.  Good times, Ghost!   (laugh)

It sounds so much more beautiful in its original Klingon.

transliteration: frog pIn'a'! frogs tlhap'a'!

"I am the frog chief master!  I take the frogs!"

The Rumpus Room / Re: Ponch is in trouble now

It's Gumby Ponch! :-D

I think you've found a niche, jwalt!   You know, a game with "clay," "gumby," characters in a toy world might be kind of retro-cool.

Sexy!  (roll)

I guess we're through that one. Whew! It certainly was a little Anglo. :P  Since I got two out of three, is it my turn, Stupot's turn, or a fault?  How do we work out a riddle solved by team effort?  If one of the other guessers has one handy, go for it, or I'll find one.

Congrats on the trophies!   Great fun for all!

I might guess that the sticky fly was "on the jamb," but that's relying only on the sound of the word.  Some people call the side of the door the "sticking."  I guess he could be there.  The wet one might be on the mullion.

I prefer reading.   To each their own... right?

I hate to just say, "Me too," but I'm with taking the more "built-in" route.

When you're thinking about efficiency, I guess it really depends on what you need to do.  As Khris said, if 80% of the room is the same, then yes, visit the same room twice.  The easiest, built-in, "default AGS" way to implement multiple visits would be with global variables.  AGS has a nice global variable list that will allow you to keep your globals in one neat, organized place.  IMHO, this list, along with using a naming convention, eliminates most of the hazards of using them.  I have used a bool like g_bFirstVisit to do what you're talking about.  Another cheap AGS trick to learn is the DoOnlyOnce() function. This could get sloppy, but it really depends on what you need to do.

But if the location is only conceptually the "apartment" with different objects, hotspots, characters, cutscenes, I would make multiple rooms.  It's going to be easier to test.  The rooms will be less complex with less of a chance for bugs.  Plus, it's more flexible.  You might want to change the lighting of the background for the time of day.   You might want to paint some of the objects from your "states" into the background, making them hotspots, rather than fiddling with placing them as objects, and hiding/unhiding them according to the "state."

If your masks get to be complex or if you'd rather not paint the same walkable area multiple times, CRM Tools can help.

Again, I know this post is a little superfluous, but I just wanted to flesh out a few details on the previous thoughts -- especially since you said that you're new to AGS.

Was the angry fly "off the handle?"
#115
I was trying to figure out an answer using the anatomy of a door ala Anglo lingo.

... but I'm either not creative enough to see how this fits together, or I'm just on the wrong track.

I'm curious to know how you did it.  Your idea, assuming I understood it, sounded like something that would be difficult to implement.  Is the secret that you are going to limit the options/variables?

You've probably all heard about Star Citizen.  I'm sure it's going to be awesome, but I'm still more interested in classic adventure games at the moment.   Then again, I'm not aware of any classic adventure game that has been able to raise 29 million dollars through the crowd!  8-0  Million!

I just want to jump in and say that I'm watching this thread (not that this information matters much, but I'm posting to keep it alive).  I did a bit of work on the path-finding problems, but I did everything locally, unsure about the organization of the project.  I had assumed that CW was the default project lead on the engine at this point.  Is this correct?  Besides CW and Monkey, is anyone else working on the engine?

;-D Ha!  That could be a possibility.

However, what I meant was that perhaps he should have used an exclamation point rather than a comma. I agreed with your assumption that he was asking for someone to bring a bag of ice.  I took the final "ice" as a one word exclamatory sentence emphasizing his need for ice.  "Ice!  Out."

But without more context, who could know?  It might have been a autocorrect error, and he actually typed "Peace, out."   ;-D

I would assume that the "Ice, out" is just a misuse of a comma. "Out" means "I'm finished."
