Last complaint  ;)

The bricks you can see through the cracks in the wall are too small.
If you want to see more than one brick through a crack of this size, you have the enlarge the bricks and the cracks. It's not a major issue, but I noticed it and so will the player.

Nevertheless, this is a nice background now. Also you now have many objects the player can click on to explore the enviroment. I really like this bg now.

Dunno if that's what you are going for. I had to guess how the paper would fold/bend in the air, so the shadows could be in wrong places. BTW, those are some nice colors you chose.

The new bg is sooo much better.  :) (Heil to the Critics Lounge)
Unfortunately the flowerboxes are drawn wrong. (perspective).
There sides should go ~45° up (parallel to the left outline of the street), and not down. Maybe it would help you to draw a coordinate plane on the handdrawn templates while you are creating them - it's making things much more easier.
Nevertheless: This bg is the way to go for that kind of style.

Just to let you know where I was going :

I usually don't paint with vectors, so I had some trouble remain your style - I would have added more objects if it weren't for my lack of talent with the vector-tool.

IMHO :

-the whole bg is too bright
-the floor is out of perspective and there are no shadows on the trash cans and the stomp
-the stomp should get wider near the bottom
-maybe you could also replace the zick-zack-lines on the wanted poster with something that actually looks like written words. (Honestly I wonder why someone would place a wanted poster in a dead-end street)
-the street could use some dirt - after all it's a dead-end street with trash cans - it seems kind of sterile.
-the bg lacks of a caribbean mood. there could be palm leaf hanging down from the top right corner and/or an ad for a classic carribean drink/the local carribean bar next to the wanted poster.

On the whole I must say, the quality of the bg doesn't come up to the quality of the pirate guy on the wanted poster, who IMHO is very cool. You should really consider putting the same amount of love into your bg's as you put into your characters. I'm sure you rather read such comments as usefull suggestion than as crushing game review. While this may sound very hard, it isn't meant to be offensive in any way -  after all you requested C&C.

Compared to his head, both his hands and feet look really small. I think you should make those bigger.

That was actually intended. As long as it doesn't look crappy in the eye of the audience, I would like let the proportions as they are. I honestly hoped to get more C&C on the quality of the sprite, not it's content. (I hope it is clear what I tried to say)

Hmm....

I wasn't going exactly for style copy. I am trying to make a cartoon-style adventure and thought the Matt Groening style was somewhere near to my aspired character style. Im quite happy with the result of Haddas' c&c - Nevertheless, thanks for the link.

Outlines and eyes gone - seems like you were right.

Critics' Lounge / C&C + General Question
Tue 12/07/2005 05:52:23
Hi,

I've been working on some Matt Groening/Futurama - Stile Characters and wanted to know, if by any chance there would be an audience for such a game. Anyhow, here is the main character (Farnsworth/Burns-Hybrid) for C&C.

He's supposed to be a former sorceror and should look kind of pathetic.

IMHO, this is a great background, it just seems kind of sterile. It's hard to believe someone actually lives in that room.

Maybe you should consider some of those suggestions :

- The light on the ceiling could be bigger - maybe you could go for a chandelier-kind of lightsource - you know what I mean

- The open doorframe should show the area the character came from, or maybe a floor, with half a picture seen through the door or something.

- The wall over the bed is too empty, there should be bookshelves or a poster (something that expresses the owners personality.

- There should be a lamp on the nightstand, plugged in the socket. (BTW, I looove the sockets)

- You could place half a desk between the bed and the lower left corner of the image.

- Unless this is a skyscraper, you should see something besides the sky through the window.

- The calender should say '2005' or any other year, instead of 'Calender'

In spite of all that, this room gives a lot of opportunities for the player to explore something. Lots of drawers, cabintes and books - I almost clicked on the image to see what's inside of this nightstand :-) Good work.

I have the Outlines (the hand-drawn template).
I don't know what I did wrong - but still, I agree with you.

I think it looks better - unfortunately it isn't what I really wanted when I began  ;)
But those were some great advices you all gave me - even if I couldn't turn them all into a picture yet.

After your advices it came out like that :

More C&C please, and thanks for all the good advice.

EDIT : Nevermind

Hello everybody.
This is my first post in this forum and the first background I dare to mistreat the public eye with  :)

It's supposed to be Cartoon/DOTT-Style Game. I didn't proceed with the details of the background, because I stuck with the house. It just doesn't say "medieval" for some reason. Also I am not happy with the grass in the foreground. I have no idea how I could give more structure to it, without creating a hilly landscape.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks.
