So...  what you're saying... perhaps boasting about is..  Your posts are bigger than his?

Eh, I don't know.  I think for a movie to say "Well, I KNOW I'm cheesy, so it's ok that I suck!" is sort of a cop-out.  If the movie itself knows it's bad, I won't even bother.

Two words, one number:

Evil Dead 2.

I win.  ;D

It's cheesy.. that's why it's good.  It's the epitome of 80's psycho-babble drivel.  It's utterly unrealistic nonsense.  That's what I enjoyed The Breakfast Club.  It's akin to the enjoyment of B-grade horror flicks, only in the comedy genre.  St. Elmo's Fire was supposed to be another great 80's drama/comedy starring many of the same actors.. I didn't find it nearly as memorable.

I utterly despise most movies aimed at teens today.  The ones that don't take themselves seriously are at least somewhat redeemed.

Eliza Dushku?  Katie Holmes has done a few.  And, of course, there's the duo of Matt Damon & Ben Affleck.

[edit: Withdraw Damon & Affleck, not quite the same genre]

I'll start off by saying it's a good image.. don't stress about that part.  There's also no need to get totally caught-up in perspective difficulties.  The largest perspective problem in this picture is the door in the upper-left.  Its visible hallway ought to be on the left side, with the door on the right (So just mirrored if you can manage to fit that in).  The tables in the back look alright but they also look paper-thin at the moment.  Give 'em a bit of an edge, maybe a few pixels thick and they'll look a lot more realistic.  The table-stands could also stand to be a tad more circular, especially in the foreground banquet tables.

I think what you did with the lights is wonderful.  Adds a touch of atmosphere to the scene.  The modern-art picture would add a little to the scene, but I feel the yellow "scribble" is a bit too thin and makes it stand out as an MS PAint type drawing.. perhaps some thickening in spots so it looked more like a paint-brush swoop.

Nice image though.  Don't be shy about sharing art.  Whatever you make, the majority of us have seen a hell of a lot worse.

Made a small edit (hope you don't mind).  The only fix that looks a lot better is the door.. the others only show what I mean with a quick paint-over.  Rounded out the vases, made art "blobbier" & rounded out table-stands.  Of course, taking time to do properly, it would help more.  One other note, I hope you keep a copy in .bmp format or low .jpeg compression.. those artifacts are evil.

You ought to make use of the new 32-bit/alpha support and put some walk-behind jars on that front table.

Actually this suggestion comes from the thought that the BG looks too much like a frame (everything to the edges and a nice open spot in the middle).  Maybe this could be fixed by having something intruding upon the foreground w/o dominating it.  One idea, maybe a medical-study style skeleton-on-a-hook just barely visible (or as a dark shadow) towards the bottom-left. [edit: A medical examiner might use such a skeleton if he were performing an autopsy and wanted to see the bone-layout, etc.]

Just an idea.. as it stands, I think the image would work great in the context you describe.. nice color usage  too!  Not many full-saturation colors.

Don't forget that it was probably an intimidating PM from Cos to CJ that caused CJ to implement the separate x & y scrolling.

If good ol' Cos hadn't come along, Chris would surely be charging us to make these wonderful additions.

My bet.. Cos is, at heart, a console-gamer.  :P

LIke I said in #AGS I think it looks great.  It's perfect as it is..  however, if you wanted to make it more dynamic-feeling, you could add some hair sway or a slouching effect as he "bounces."  Currently, he's a tad stiff but that could be a good thing if it's how you want 'im.

Yes, he's nearly as pale as a mime.  Other than his vampiric good-looks, I think it's a very well-done character.  It has very good lines, is anatomically-correct (what we can see of him anyway) and has enough personality to portray a character in a game.

If I have to be nit-picky, I would up the contrast for the face/hair to be more in keeping with the suit.  There is shading there but perhaps if it were more defined or in higher contrast, it would look a little sharper.  The main reason for changing the skin color would be so that his facial features stand out.  Currently his features are a little "fuzzed" into his face.

Overall, excellent job, I give it an 8/10..being a first try, it gets a covetable 9.526/10.

.  But I thought the cowboy was a pirate or perhaps a soldier from the revolutionary war..  and the snails I couldn't pick out even after you mentioned them, until I'd started at the picture for 10 seconds or so.. they blend into the landscape making it look like a slope instead of a cliff.  Good idea for one, though.

Very clean and rather professional site, Miez.  I dunno if my sound was muted but was there any?  Might add a little personality to it.  I also noticed the same-tile click thing but other than that, quite good.   I just multiple-guessed on my exams though. =]

I never looked very closely at RE's dog but always assumed via peripheral vision that it was wearing a hat or something.  Hmm..

Am I the only one that didn't miss the important details in Andail's narrative?  They closed the whale!  We're left to assume that they closed him inside the whale.  Our dear Andail is actually Jonah.

My avatar is in existence because I wanted something to replace that shifty-eyeball one I made.

If you pursue this and leave your girlfriend behind, I'm sure there are several AGS'ers who would gladly keep an eye on her for you.

Life and happiness are all about dreams.  Does the thought of entering this event make your heart beat faster in anticipation?  Is it a chance-of-a-lifetime event?  I say go for it.. it seems like there's little to regret if you sign up, but a lot to regret if you pass this up (especially as you say you're getting too old for it and it sounds like you couldn't go for it later).

General Discussion / Re:CJ is not Jesus

Many things very well put there, Pumaman.  I'd like to second that "Jesus Christ" used in the CJ context is more of a cultural iconization than a reference to a deity.

I, for one, try to avoid using (in frustration or anger or whatnot) phrases like "Jesus Christ!", "My God!","God-DAmn-it" etc.  I figure there's no reason to use them if one doesn't believe in them and that if one does believe in them, it's probably best not to use them.

Either way, I think the best way to handle the situation is with a polite request (which was handled somewhat passably) and to leave it at that.  Let those who wish to show respect for their fellow-AGS'er at least make some attempt at avoiding offense.  I would also suggest that it be made a fair trade, however.  If the rest of the community is going to bend to WanderLady's request, I don't see why we should have statements and phrases concerning Christianity directed at us. (I'm not talking about the signature but rather religiously-oriented posts or parts of posts).

Ah, to hell with it.. this discussion's been interesting but hasn't it gone on long enough?

La zucca?  Isn't that spanish for The Squash or something?  Or is it Italian for Azùcar?

Anyway, nice audio/video quality..  very strange film...  sort of reminds me of a King Missile production.

General Discussion / Re:CJ is not Jesus
Thu 13/11/2003 05:32:26
Wanderlady, you ask the community to desist with the JC/CJ jokes.  Well, I would tell you that your blatant transgender homo-eroticism has caused me great offense for some time now.  I am not familiar with very many uses of the word, "Lady," that actually refer to a male.  The flower, "Lady Slipper," refers to the footwear of a lady.  The phrase "Lunch-Lady" refers to a lady that doles out excrement in the guise of food.  In the movie "Lady and the Tramp" the "Lady" does not refer to a human female, but at least a female.  Therefore, your blatant disregard for social decency leaves me with little or no respect for your request.

Seriously now, if you had written a polite request then I would have been one of the first to acknowledge your offense and would've made sure I didn't commit this atrocious sin.  However, you stated that we were damaging our souls and insinuated that we would surely taste hellfire for our blasphemous statements and lack of belief.  You've stated time and time again that all you did was ask politely if we would stop.  That is not the case.

When you first started participating in the forums, there were "Jesus this" and "Jesus that" statements in every message you posted.  When that started slacking off a bit, I believe that the community as a whole began to respect you.  I, personally, come from an extremely religious background and have left the church more light-hearted than I ever felt while attending.  Some of the most devout Christians I've known have been able to enjoy a bit of "Divine" humor without bleeding their sufferage about.  You insinuate that Chris not condemning these jokes is due to his pride and his wish to be likened unto Jesus Christ, a bit harsh, I think.  You also respond by saying that we shouldn't be mocking the name of the Lord.  Which name?  Every time we say Lord (even in reference to a social status in the UK) is it blasphemy?  Since beelzebub was known as the "Lord of the flies," then was the author of that description being blasphemous?  How then, can you say our playing with such common-place words as Jesus (a fairly common name in some countries and essentially the same name as Joshua is in Hebrew).  It's just a name, like any other. The Christ part only identifies one known as a savior, and except for the Church's insistence to the contrary, could be used toward any individual that has aided the common man.

I, for one, will respect your request (though I do not believe the aforementioned sin is mine) and refrain from likening anyone on this forum to a Christian deity.  As for other deities, I believe they're fair-game since they are typically followed by less anal-retentive members and are more supportive of the human spirit and humor than a deity who's obsessed with the judgement of all things, even an innocent joke.

Edit: Holy $hit (I mean... Really Special $hit), I was blathering, didn't realize it'd be this long.  Ah well, the thread'll be ignored or locked soon enough anyway..

The second one was cool.  The heroine was a lot different from most adventure game females (Not perky & goody-goody) and she kicked so much ass over Brandon (Annoying little stick-up-his-arse dude).  The hand was really cool too, the different worlds were amazing and the art was excellent.  I think the reason the 3rd sticks in my mind so much is that Malcolm was such an a-hole.  Random comments like, "Ah, squirrels. I like squirrels," and, "Clouds, I like clouds," followed by multi-clicking or randomly said, "Squirrels..  he he..  *boom!*"  I dunno, I liked the whole good vs. evil scenario even if the consciences were overly obnoxious.  I definately prefer the 2D art of the previous ones, though.  Argh, this photoshop phriday (eat a dick, eric) is becoming Adventure Game Talk & Chat.

A lot of Windows installs also include the Microsoft photo-editor.  It'll save as a jpeg without screwing your colors up too badly.  Or, you might get a shareware version of PSP to convert files with.  I'd personally recommend leaving MS-Paint on the wayside but if you prefer it, at least use something else for the format conversions.
