Inside scoop?  I haven't even started work yet.. and I'll be guarding an empty (for now) location.. and I work for Lucas Digital (Skywalker Sound & ILM), not LucasArts   :(

Anyway, who's this Mike Nelson?  Mike Nelson of MST3k fame? ;)

Are you certain you've not been subjected to ah... intensive probing by extra-terrestrials?  That can damage the immune system.

Yeah, it's stupid of me to think this way since I haven't gotten my 1st paycheck yet and the cost-of-living is horrid here, but I admit I feel almost ..  wealthy.  I won't have money-worries, at least.  I just won't have a life, either.  ;D

I got a newsletter from Fat Mike of the band NOFX.  He has a good point:

"Forget that he admired Adolf Hitler.  Forget that he's a womanizer.  Forget that he refuses to go to a debate unless he gets the questions a week in advance.  Forget that he is good friends with Kurt Waldheim.  Forget that more than a dozen women have said that he had publicly humiliated them.  Forget the accent.  Forget that his wife looks like Skeletor.  Forget that he lied about not taking money from special interest.  Forget that he doesn't have a plan to balance the budget.  Just remember one thing: Kindergarten Cop.

California is fucked,

Fat Mike"

Ok, we shouldn't necessarily knock the grocery jobs aside.  Gas stations pay better than fast-food as well.  I'm just saying you can't count on getting one of the jobs that doesn't require specialty education when there are dozens of others trying for the same thing.  I actually applied at a gas station and grocery store.. thank god I didn't get those or I wouldn't be meeting George Lucas on the 27th.  ;)

Ok, it was almost a joke at the time but now it would appear that Arnold is our governor (for all 3 of us Californians in AGS)...  crazy shit...  He won with 51% of the vote.  At least it wasn't a situation where a candidate won with 15% of the vote (as was stated to be possible in this election between 135 candidates).

Pity us, Mr. Universe has stepped down to be California Governor.  :P

It looks like a very good background that was messed up with an emboss-filter.  I like the style, lines & coloring but that line-emphasis embossed look kinda kills it.

It all depends upon where you live.  Minimum wage in the US (like sales tax) varies from state to state.  Sales tax, however, varies from county to county in California.  Anyway, min wage in Cali is either 6.25 or 6.75, don't remember which.  In some states, certain service-fields can make less.  In North Carolina, my sister was earning 2.25 an hour since her tips were expected to make up the rest.  What a horrible system when the money people are supposed to reward you for good service with, is taxed and treated like part of your normal wage.

Panda's advice is good..   definately don't wait too long before getting a certification in computers, welding, etc.  You don't wanna be looking for gas-station or fast-food jobs.  Air Conditioning is an excellent field.  If I didn't hate the hell out of it, I could be earning anywhere from $50-$120 dollars an hour with my Universal Tech certification.

Yep, I'm stuck at this position for 2 years (or until the new San Francisco - Presidio complex is complete) at which point I'll continue on in Security or have gotten myself a degree in some graphical area and attempt to move on in the company.  The benefits kick ass too..  401k matched, full health, full dental, full vision, 2 weeks paid vacation/year, full pay for jury duty, 13 national holidays off (paid) per year (or if I have to work 'em, I get 2x pay ($28/hour)).

Minimi... the pay seems outrageous, but consider that to live in the city I'd work in, I'd probably have at least $2000/month rent.  The minimum wage is $6.75 per hour (correct me if I'm wrong, someone). Gas costs me $2.18 a gallon, a gallon of milk is $3.75 and I just recently bought some work clothes, 1 shirt and 1 pair of khakis for $60.  I think it's a tad more expensive here..  :P

Just wanted to blather about new employment.  I get to work for LucasDigital/Industrial Light & Magic.  Granted, it's only a security position but getting to work for one of my favorite companies is still wonderful.  The pay's nice too (An average of $16.30 / hour).   Of course, the hours suck..  suck pretty hard..  60 hours a week.

It's a curse...  I used to have plenty of room.. add DSL and I've managed to fill all but 5 gigs of my 120G HD.  Slowly but surely putting stuff on CDs...  damn I need a DVD-burner.

You shouldn't be, it's quite good.  The hand on the top of the car could be fairly accurate depending upon how it's colored.  If you check out tutorials that actually show the sketch-stage, it's funny how "off" some of their lines are.  Just finish and color the drawing (if it's meant to be colored, of course) and you can "eyeball" the corrections as you go.  Don't think your lines have to be concrete once you've put them in place.

Now, as far as small criticisms go:  The arms (sleeves, really) have different widths and styles.  The ego's right arm seems skinny and enclosed in a disco-suit styled sleeve.  the other one looks like a more traditional sleeve.  Maybe you could find a happy medium and relax the clothing of the door-arm and tighten that of the roof-arm.  As for the car door, if it's meant to resemble a realistic vehicle, the door should be a bit longer and preferably angled back instead of perpendicular to the car itself.  Really, the image shows a lot of potential, it's just a bit too incomplete to properly judge at the moment.  Keep up the good work!

General Discussion / Re:DVD player software.

You could try a trial download of powerdvd.  You can find that at: http://www.gocyberlink.com.  It's limited to 30 minutes of video play and 5 minutes of special-equipment audio output and only lasts for 14 days but it may suit your purposes.  If you got a non-legitimate copy, that would be another option ... not that I'm condoning piracy, mind you.  ::)

YakSpit: What the fuck are you on about? If you ever passed the 1st grade I'm sure you would have learned that only women have pussies, you dumbass.

And the large-breasted bitch's point would be ... ? ???

Actually, this is actually quite a good way to see how imaginative and articulate people can be with their insults. Just saying "fuck" won't cut it.

Dammit, I'm doomed.

The thread's degrading already, I guess people just don't know each other well enough to get very personal.  I suppose it's overall a good thing but I get the sense that everyone in the community gets along too well to really make the flame-thread vicious.

No.. I would play any game with this character in it, ESPECIALLY if he burned cars and kicked nuns.   ;D

Now isn't this a strange sort, a being who takes pride in the fact that his ears make him look elfvin?  Pompously strutting his elf-genes as though he were a supreme being, Andail sounds to me like every other D&D-addicted loser that I ignored in high-school.  Just the thought of that particular personna sets my teeth on edge.

He's bound to be taken for one of the more intellectual people on this forum - and no wonder! Look at the competition!

He's delved into the topic of racism and über-nationalism in the United States.  Comments such as these can only be introduced by a naïve individual that believes everything he reads in his local newspaper.  Aren't you aware that there are many people here that aren't ultra-conservative Bush-clones?  Also sad is the pseudo-intellectualism that reveals itself as a fraud the instant Andail's forced to write poly-syllabic words, such as, "testosterone."

Does this please you, Panda-boy?  Not a single potty-word used that might damage your innocence.  Occasionally, expletives can serve to emphasize something or to show intense emotion.  They don't always have to be gasped at or giggled about.

I like the freedom to be an asshole.  However, I don't think the n00b discussion is the best way to kick it off. The only people that might be permanently offended by this thread are the ones who don't understand the community (i.e. the n00bies).  It's off to a fairly pleasant start, though.

What the holy fuck do you mean someday?  Ever wonder why LGM's so fuckin' bitchy and bitter all the damned time?  He's too busy pleasuring his sugar-daddy for video equipment money.  No wonder he's crabby, his pussy's sore.

Yep, I like the black border.  Normally, you wouldn't hear my whine about double-pixels but in this case, I think they would be better eliminated.  Since it's a smooth/blobby sort of character, the jagged lines break the flow of the outlining.  Since it's got some shading, I think it'd be a little better with a bit more of it.  The simple design and character in this avatar is excellent, you would have a lot of interesting animation options and added versatility.

Looks quite a bit like the tree-spirits from Princess Mononoke...  ;)
