People in the #AGS channel on IRC can often be good about listening to problems... provided they/we aren't too busy discussing genitalia.

You can feel free to gripe and moan in the forum as well, but be prepared for unmoderated (in the beginning) responses that may or may not make you feel like crap.

Personally, I'd probably browse the forums, do a search or two and see if anyone else is having similar difficulties.. if so, you could exchange e-mail addys and see how each other are coping.

These are just suggestions for discussing stuff within #AGS.  I don't think there's any real substitute for a person-to-person talk to be found on the internet.

I do think I've discovered the root of your problems, however - You reside in Wisconsin.  That's bound to screw anyone up.

You're forgetting something people.  The US Federal age of consent is 18.  However, some states have different laws.  The law in North Carolina states that 15 is the age of consent (The age at which a person is old enough to decide whether he/she is ready for the responsibility of sexual intercourse).

Personally, I think onemanarmy is merely playing the devil's advocate.  He makes a point that might be a good one if he could support it but his argument falls flat when he simply states things as BEING/NOT BEING true without any justification for his statements.  He is stating that homosexuality is a deviency and as such should be on the same level as other fetishist sexual acts.  If it were actually comparable to the ones he mentioned, he might have a point.  The counterpoints to his arguments effectively nullified them.  Still, I get the feeling that he's arguing his point for the sake of debate and I don't believe it's anything to get incensed about (at least in the "real" world, Flip.)

Critics' Lounge / Graphics Tablets advice
Mon 14/07/2003 13:31:03
just got a tablet.. a wacom graphire 2.  Kinda trying out a mid-range before committing to an expensive Intuos model.

Anyway, anyone have any special tablet-advice for me?  What progs work well with it?  How can a get the most natural sketch/pen stroke?

And since this is critic's lounge, here's something to bitch about:

I think I've thrown this somewhere else, but:

I realize that with the cartoony-style it allows the eyeball to hover in front of the hair but it still bugs me.

One thing, if she's a voodoo priestess or something of that nature, why not give her symbolic necklaces or tattoos or something.  Even if she's going "plain-clothes" she might have something symbolizing her religion.  It also looks significantly like your Pesty and Pancake characters with different coloring.  Why not try a different nose or slightly differently shaped face?  Just general criticisms but the image as a whole is pure radical awesomeness and then some.

As with your others, I'm kinda wondering how this is going to look in pixel-char mode.

I go for Aussie's.  Nicely implemented, simple yet effective and the most amusing idea here in my opinion.

I've got a couple peculiarities that fall into the above-mentioned types.  However, I can trace most of them to some point of origin.  For instance, I have a tendancy to eat foots in even bites, evenly distributed between right and left sides.  This began when I was about 6.  I figured that even with brushing and flossing daily your teeth would still rot in the meantime.  So,  I started chewing food primarily on one side, favoring my right side for cavity-prevention.  However, as time went on, I realized that I would look ridiculous with no teeth on one side and a full set of shiny whites on the other.  So, I started making sure I chew the same amount of food on each side.  It's a habit I can't really shake as it's become instinct by now.

Now both my in-laws actually have forms of OCD.  My father in-law is a compulsive collector that won't allow anything to be thrown away.  He still has advertisements from 1965.  My mother in law is compulsively clean in the kitchen but everywhere else feels the need to prevent any sort of cleanliness.

At least your not totally alone in your peculiarities.

I can pretty much predict how this will turn out.  The film taken by itself with have nice special effects, abstract/random comedy and be a fairly entertaining movie.  It will probably be rated PG.  The only sections in the book that would warrant an adult rating will probably be cut.  I find it very probable that they will remove the word, "Fuck" from the movie all together.  I will enjoy the movie simply for itself but will prefer the book (of course).  It won't be as good  a conversion as Lord of the Rings but will be better than Stephen King's lawnmower man story to movie, at least as far as faithfulness to the novel.

If I am wrong and the movie surpasses my expectations, I'm fully prepared to relinquish Army of Darkness as my current favorite movie to watch and re-watch.

It's a true shame Adams is dead.  I think they ought to get a group together comprised of the Monty Python team, Terry Pratchett (I assume he's still alive), and Mel Brooks.  Then they ought to be given a huge budget, lots of resources and then be told to be faithful to the novel or face castration.  Then it'll be a wonderful film.

I think the inch-high guy one sounds the most viable.  As for a couple of the others, they'd do more as mini-games.  There just doesn't seem to be enough info to flesh out the plot line.  As for the weird world thing, it seems you've thought out the introduction fairly well but it might do to put some thought into what'll happen next (not just destroying sanity) but what kind of situations will he encounter?

I like it.. in a demented sort of way, I suppose.  However a couple comments..  The bulging eye would look a bit more bulging and not merely oversized if you extended your shading a bit..  maybe if you used the same slightly darker shade from the head to make some shadow where that humongous eye blocks the light.  Also, the arms/legs currently look very double-pixelly, I could add/subtract some pixels to give them a more consistent look (i.e. more "tube-like" the same width all the way through).

Excellent work though... if you could get a decent-looking walking animation outta this, I'm sure it would be quite entertaining.  ;D

The first couple commercial graphic adventures were black and white...   and the first time I played SQ3, it was in black and white due to its shoddy CGA support at the time.

Dragonrose, it looks a bit like an emboss-filter.  :P

However, the character/background do mesh a bit better now.  A suggestion: try an enhance edges or unsharpen-mask filter instead.

Great. Does this mean I can use different coloured lighting effects such as a neon sign shining on the character?

That's my question too, is this implemented for characters also?  This could help tremendously when trying to do niftier graphics for games.  For example, stepping in front of a glowing red furnace highlights character red; or walking behind a green jar could be set to make the character green?  'twould be awesome. (I'm beginning to think I'll hafta reconsider a B&W only game)

You could re-draw the characters to fit better.. if you did, I'd say make him a tad thinner or at least smaller.

Here's an experiment you could do..  take the pic of the wizard and put it over the background in photoshop..  mess with the brightness/contrast until it fits then use those same settings for your character pic.

I graduated normally from High School.  I slacked off majorly during my Senior year.  I had a 4.0 from 1st to 11th grade and then dropped to a 2.7.  After highschool, I attended heald business college.  I dropped out because of general pissyness.  They wouldn't let me test out of any classes and I was paying 35K a year to take Typing I and Lotus 1-2-3 Beginner's courses.  Didn't wanna invest that much money for just a certificate for stuff I already knew so I left.   Have a few minor courses under my belt from the military..  Aircraft Paint systems, Corrosion Control, Cargo Container Inspection, EPA Universal Refrigerant Technician, blah, blah.

Try scanning threads and I'm sure you'll find a half-dozen jokes threads that you could continue instead of starting another.

BTW, nice joke!   Misogynist, but funny.

I use my real name everywhere, since I... hang on a sec, there's a mysterious sounding knock at the door, gonna go look...

Ask whoever it is if they'll teach me.  I'd love to learn how to make a mysterious-sounding knock.

Probably the sense of "humor." However, if Pet could actually come up with a concept Las couldn't understand, I'll quit adventure games forever.
