yep, I hafta say, after watching it that it was extremely good.  It goes into the category of art, almost.  I didn't care much about the matrix references as the stories themselves.  The only one I didn't care for much is the one with the white-haired chick.  The characters are too anime for my taste and the guys running the ship remind me of some cartoon I used to watch... why can't I remember the name?  Something about a battleship or something.   From CGI to anime to film-noir style anime to CGI cel-shading/animation hybrid, it kept my interest throughout.  Or maybe it was mostly cause I got to watch it without the kids at home to distract me, I dunno.

If you are primarily using up/down movement (like top-down console-style game) why not just make the left/right walking frames the same as the up/down?  (Or if you want left/right to be only 270/90 then just make the 1/8 perspectives the same as up/down)

Agreed.. based upon the camera angle, the bottom of the bin should have more curve and the top should be slightly more visible.  The table should be flatter (in other words, smaller vertically).  Excellent pic, very clean.  You might consider softening some of those black lines using other colors.  But a very functional and decent looking room, nonetheless.

My father in law copied some damned concert on DVD for me.  It was fairly amusing.  He laughed when he was supposed to laugh and smiled when he was supposed to smile but he didn't seem to be enjoying himself.  I think after 20-odd years of doing this, his heart's not in it anymore.  The best part of the DVD is the public service announcements. (50's style infomercial things with umm.. "different" commentary)

Nah, for them to read, they've got to have an access point.  The only way to do this is a program meant for the reader (like the twain programs you use to d/l digi-cam pics) or to assign it as a local drive.  I recommend finding the drivers/utilities at the site for the card reader.  Also, sometimes, the drivers just don't load properly on boot.  If it's USB, try unplugging it and replugging it in a minute later.  Or, try rebooting (if you haven't).  I had a similar problem with mine.  I ended up uninstalling all instances of the driver and re-installing it (somehow it had loaded to instances of the driver).

And I don't think this is the wrong forum... the technical forums are more for AGS-related questions.

Well, for the first, I think the hills texture looks a bit stretched.  The scene overall would be good, but perhaps a bit at a time for a screen?  Unless it's a fly-by shot.

I like the second, though it's slightly bland.  Perhaps something to offset it, like mountains/moon/trees/larger rocks in the background?

The third one shares the problem of the first, and the flat ground looks like the texture is meant to be applied to the face, but is applied in spherical or face-rectangular mode (just to the wrong face of the rectangle.  The only problem with the sky is that it's a solid fill.  If it dwindled a bit or had some logical ending...

The fourth has a nicely atmospheric feel and the lighting is perfect.  Contrasts nicely without too many dark areas.  Just enough to give shadows.  The floating hotdog is my friend.

Screw you, that's awesome.  Excellent job, original and spritey.  A little clean-up and it'd fit right into an adventure game.  Yakspit doesn't seek to win, only to amuse.

I know the smiley's there.  I just want it to be clear.. I don't think you're cheating.  I think you stuck the closest to the rules.. I just think it's not the most original entry.  ;D  Of course, originality is not always prerequisite.

What to you mean Yak?

Well, the example Ali gives in his first post is: "You know, like a guy on the phone to his boss with his foot in a shark's mouth. Something like that. "  The difference between that and yours is that it's a bear trap instead of a shark.  =]  Still a good sprite though, excellent work.

On another note, it makes me wonder how the toilets there are set up.  Is it merely a trough or are there urinals with no partitions?   I wonder because I was suspecting it was an utterly American thing to be self-concious about bathroom functions.  (Because I've heard various stories about how public bathrooms can be abroad)  My personal experiences with this have led me to be rather un-selfconcious.  While in the Marine Corps, one thing they love to do is give you a restroom with toilets lining a wall with no partition.  Once you've had someone else turn slightly to his left and ask if you're done with the sports section yet, that's about as unprivate as it gets, I suppose.

Evil you definately get some kudos for making yours very "spritey."  However, one must note that it matches 95% of the example description for the jam.  ::)

I agree, a single sprite is difficult for this one, unless it's an animation.  However, I tried to keep a sprite-y feel to this one:

I'd buy a piano, and become the next Steve from Blue's Clues.

Really?  heh. ["We just got a letter, we just got a letter, we just got a letter.  Wonder who it's from?"]

I would edit my previous post, but this is unrelated .  I would also let this thread die due to excessive argument/stupidity but what the hell....

I brought Animatrix home from work..  I think it comes out in a couple weeks.  Anyway.. for those that don't know.. it's supposed to fill in some gaps in the Matrix storyline.   So, Matrix-haters beware.

What it is: A series of animated shorts (total of 9) and a couple of extras done in varying animation styles.  The first one is done with the people that made the Final Fantasy movie and is kinda a rewind in history.  The quality is about that of the FF movie.. very well done CG.  the others are all animation.. the styles vary from straight anime-style to hand-drawn animation style to CG/animation utilizing a bit of what looks to be cel-shading.  The makers of Animatrix got animators/directors from various well-known anime series, among them the makers of Cowboy Bee-Bop and Ninja Scroll.  There's also one done with the collaboration of Todd McFarlane.

impressions: Thankfully, I haven't watched any yet, so I can't spoil it much for you..  There's a short that's just pre-matrix, one with Neo as a kid in highschool, another from a machine's perspective, and a couple more artsy shorts.  It looks to be very entertaining from a Matrix perspective an animation in general perspective.

Recommendations: I've only flipped through a couple making-of features to get a feel for it.  It's not-rated but I'd give it an "R" for animated violence, mature themes and blood & gore.  Anyone who really dug The Matrix ought to check it out.  Anyone who's an anime fan, particularly of the above mentioned should give it a shot too.  Those who are interested in various forms of animation might find it interesting, even if they detest all things matrixy.  Specifically, I'd assume Helm, Mr. C, and some of our other excellent artists would like it.. Oh, yeah and neole beause it has animated women in tight-fitting/revealing attire.  ;)

I'd draw more on paper..  without AGS, I'd probably have to make choose-your-own-adventure flip-books.

I'm not certain where a snail would come into it, unless I made too much bulge in the back and it looks like the suit's covering a shell.

Here's why I drew it..  my kid's got a friend that is in a band (a teenage angst thingy) and they wanted to call their band Zit Goo or something about as nifty.  I mildly suggested NinjaSlug and they went nuts over it, but only on the condition that I'd draw a logo.  I got an update halfway through drawing it that they wanted it tribal style.  I basically decided to tell them to shove off...   I proposed to Pesty that she attempt it and she did a pretty good image in very little time.  I'd post it here, but definately not without her permission.

Anyway.. comments, critiques welcome.. I have about another week before they want to definately stick with an image.  If you have suggestions, I'm quite open since this is definately out of my normal range of drawing ability.  Glad to know that most people thought of it as some type of oriental-warrior slug though.  ;D  It means I at least don't hafta scrap the whole thing.

Excellent introduction · 100 pts.

No interesting avatar · -5 pts

Fairly bland nick · -10 pts

Not introducing yourself to the community sooner · -20 pts.

I give this newbie 65 points.  It's really not too bad considering that there've been some that got a -1, 603, 599 score.

Enough idiocy.  Welcome, a very enthusiastic welcome.  Though it'd be nice to have someone else to beg for music assistance, a high-potential user is always very welcome.

 ???

It was an image for a friend of my kid's.  Showed it to the kid and that was the response I got, "What is THAT?"  Just wondering if anyone can tell.  ARgh.
