Whatcha wanna do is record it at like 1.21 gigawatts.

(wasn't trying to step on your 5-minute job there nick, just was a little blown away by the volume after listening to kinoko's quiet sample.  Normalization is the right way to go, but so many system sounds are so much quieter by comparison that any normalized waveform tends to be booming loud)

Maybe it's just because my volume was so high but Nikolas' attempt sounded like somebody walking on gravel in a full bathtub.

De-noisers tend to distort the recorded sound.  I gave a shot with Audacity, but the more I tried, the worse it got.  Now it sounds like a skipping record with a weird high-pitched washiness at the end of each beat.

Geocities link :p

I'd try recording again.  It actually sounds like you've got the gain on the mic amplified but the sound isn't that loud.  It sounds a lot like transformer-buzz so you're getting feedback or you're recording from atop a power line.   If you can't get rid of the noise whilst recording, then record a few seconds of nothing so that only the noise is left.  That way that particular sound can be isolated using frequency filters or de-noising mechanisms.

Edit: Here's another shot at clean-up.  I messed with low-pass/high-pass filters to remove most of the noise and a de-noiser to attempt to reduce hum.  The problem is that the noise shares a lot of the same spectrum with your sound.  That, and they're about the same volume (sound's a bit quieter) so it's hard to isolate.  Maybe a sound guru like LGM or Geoff can fix it.

Hostile?  Reading the thread until your post, it all seemed pretty light-heared with some half-joking little jabs both to and from Fluke.  I don't think anyone here's got a grudge against Fluke anymore.  His ADHD makes him endearing.

General Discussion / Re: Serenity NOW!

I couldn't say I'd recommend anyone see Serenity that hadn't seen Firefly.  It's essentially an extra-long episode as a sort of finale.  I dug both and certainly felt Serenity to be worth my $20 (Tickets and essential snacks) than Corpse Bride or even the last couple of movies I've seen.

It is interesting to hear from people that disliked both as Firefly has been universally enjoyed by everybody I have spoken to.   Maybe it's the lack of decent shows recently that makes me enjoy it but either way, I'm glad I checked it out.

Didn't you mean to say "@+ 13@$+ 1'/|/| ⁿ0+ @ |-|@1|2Â¥ 60@+"?

It's not quite fair to call it linear.  The majority of adventures are more so.  My roommate and I had some sequences that played completely differently and more than a couple major plot points that deviated.

I don't think it plays quite so much like simon as it does Dance Dance Revolution.  Many of the sequences tend to have a rythm or pattern to them rather than random sequence.  I enjoyed the game, admitting freely that it's based on Simon/DDR gameplay.  I've got two major gripes with it: There could've been more puzzles (and not such basic ones at that) and the interface distracts from the gameplay (as Prog mentioned).  However, after settling into it a bit, I found I could watch the sequences and hit the correct buttons until my mind yelled, "You're supposed to watch the colors so you don't die!" At which point I'd be stuck missing the sequences in favor of playing Simon.

What I really liked about it were the little parts that show the potential of such an interface.  The interrogation scenes are well done and a lot more interesting than many typical adventure game conversations and I really liked the mouse movements for actions.  A flick of the wrist to the right to open that cupboard door, or one to the left to open the left cabinet.  At times, it almost felt like you were performing these actions.

All in all, it is a button-masher and forsakes mental challenge in favor of twitch-style challenges.  Bottom line, if you didn't like the Space Ace/Dragon's Lair games, you probably won't dig this much.

I'm glad at least a couple people are interested in this story (of admittedly questionable validity).  The last person I mentioned this to at work said something to the effect of, "Gee.. f__king swell.  What are you? Handicapped?"
*shrug*  I don't have to stoop to his level.  I've got real evildoers to bring to justice now.

I've got zero musical/tone ability and had no failures.  The time between hearing the tone and matching it to the frequency was long enough for me though, that the sound made me go a little crazy.  It would've been less annoying if both tones were lesser in tempo.

I've got to find my warranty card for a Flash Reader.  It's got a lifetime guarantee and reads something like: "This is for the being good until the day you die."

The phrase has become a bit of a badge of shame, normally reserved for new visitors.

People see it as auto word-wrapping on theirs but since they don't have carriage returns or more formatted documents (like RTF or DOC) non word-wrap capable viewers (like Netscape Browser for me) make it a PITA to read.   Mine reads okay in Word or Wordpad (Edit: should say, word-wraps as it doesn't read well no matter the viewing program).

I've gotta second that.  I liked the unconventional style of it, and seemed the least cliché.  Would've been nice to have some <CR>s though.  Even if he's going to hell, Rui rules.

Clicking on "Info" tells me:

True enough, I missed that bit.  But in the lengthier homepage, they explain that the attributes aside from the main walkcycle incorporate viewer opinion as to which is happier, heavier, more nervous, etc.  I'm debating using the points on a basic 3d model and seeing how good the walkcycles look.

That's good to hear.  I bought the game second-hand from someone else (though my net cost was closer to $3 US) and I've yet to play it.  I tried the demo, but most of it was spent approaching the camera with the Ego's head/hat tilted down, tilting it up quickly and whispering, "I'm Batman."  I'll have to actually try playing it instead of amusing myself.

I recall it having interesting physical reactions, lighting and being one of the first with realistic shadow-casting but my hardware at the time crippled my experience.  As for Bloodrayne, be glad you never played it.  It was tripe.  Mediocre reviews were done by people hypnotized by breasteses.  It was nearly complete crap.  Never buy a slew of budget titles when experiencing gaming withdrawl.

I'd like to see that juxtaposed with a graphical representation of your relative condescension or self-deprecation.  Please express your answer on a pH scale.

It's not a horrible reference, but if you read the page, you'll see it's not mocap.  It's accumulated responses to surveys of what people think looks feminine or happy.  Some people seem to be a bit twisted.

I'd be interested in snagging some but you're not exactly long-established here, nor on eBay.  Being overseas on top of that, just too little potential.  Best of luck though.  Personally, I'd hang on to some of the classics (like MI and GF) and sell off Resident Evil(s), Sanitarium and other games with questionable replay value.  Whatever you can get for Sanitarium should probably be grabbed since I can still buy it retail (bargain bin) for about $5.00.

I'd set a minimum on Grim of at least 15 pounds.  If you can't get that much, don't bother.  Some die-hard fan's bound to consider it a bargain at that price.

Well, if there is a conflict (assuming the board doesn't have a short somewhere) it would have to be IRQ since there's no DMA assignment for PS/2 and the IO address range is completely different from video.    The BIOS/POST IRQ listings will have little bearing as most modern BIOSes allow for Plug N Play OSes.  You could try seeing what IRQ gets assigned to video when the system does boot and make an exception for that, but the problem would likely resurface as the video and PS/2 mouse would get assigned the same IRQ once more.

If the problem  can be fixed in BIOS, it's more likely due to some antiquated setting that needs adjustment, like PCI Palette Snooping or Video/BIOS caching.  It may help to make sure it's set to boot from the applicable card-type (Initialize AGP if it's an AGP card or PCI for PCI cards (ditto for PCIe)).   Another thing that often fouls up hardware settings is Enable USB Legacy support (should be disabled unless you need USB support other than in a PnP GUI OS)  This causes some shared resource allocation among the south-bridge/PCI devices.

XP will assign IRQs on a whim, despite what your BIOS has.  You can set exceptions so that it can't utilize certain IRQs but this has limited usefulness.   Regardless, IRQ-sharing is commonplace now and a PS/2 & Video share wouldn't likely incapacitate the card, particularly since the problem (from what I understand) begins during POST (before XP has a change to muck with hardware).

Shbaz: Note that the she said the system has a pink tint even when the PS/2 mouse is removed.  The various other problems scream hardware defect/misalignment  rather than resource conflict.  Hell, you couldn't even eliminate PSU failing at this point.
