General Discussion / Re:I'm just wondering...

On the mac-suitability issue, I've seen a couple Macs at skywalker ranch but the place is mostly dominated by PC's (Even in the Lucas Digital section comprised of Skywalker Sound & Industrial Light & Magic).  It seems that the Macs are used for drafting, photoshopping & sundry graphic design purposes (such as webpage layout & schematics).  Arguing for one of the other is pointless, I suppose (bashing even more so).  It's irrelevant to me, I like hardware/tweaking too much to switch to a neon-box-thing.

I liked it at the top of the forums but it, naturally, can't be there all the time.  Maybe towards the bottom of the http://www.agsforums.com/forums.shtml page?

Sort of on the same subject, I've been tossing around the idea of placing the markers on an Earth-skin for Celestia (3d space-viewer thingy) but figure nobody here is geeky in quite the same way I so it would be pointless.

That's as maybe, but rode might not. You suggesting things when you're not physically there to assess the situation yourself could easily lead to further problems.
Selective-reader are we? "Without actually seeing/mucking with your PC, even the most knowledgable person could end up screwing it up."  :P  Rode, if you figure out it's just the RAM, post somethin' I may have some replacement stuff sitting around, depending upon what generation equipment you're using.

Usually (and someone more knowledgable about IRC, correct me if I'm wrong) the Login ID (in the form of login@isp's addy) is usually automatically selected by mIRC.  If you're still getting that error, you could always try deleting the mIRC config ini and, perhaps, trying a different Quakenet server if that doesn't work.

AGA's somewhat correct.  Without actually seeing/mucking with your PC, even the most knowledgable person could end up screwing it up.  If you don't know what you're doin' with it or don't have a friend that does, it's probably best to seek professional help.  On a different note, some of us have work/hobby experience of nearly 2 decades, AGA.  ;)

Take my name off the list please, I'm a horrid & unimaginative writer.

I go with Evenwolf on this one.  Of course, if Alexis wishes to give the honor of subject choice/posting back to Inkoddi, she could.  I guess many people just weren't interested in this topic.  I, for one, didn't think I could do it justice.

Just so you don't get some misconceptions, the potential spammer was Jodo Kast and he only intended to do it in reciprocity.  Yufster's alright, her quirk being more in the massively hyperactive vein.

Oops.. forgot.  Welcome!  It's nice to see a new person that is well-spoken, replies with a bit of thought and isn't an irritating pain in the arse.  Take BOYD for example.  He just joined 3 weeks ago and already has 3, 246 posts, most of which are about his fondness for dachsunds.

I, personally, like semi-complex controls.  For most everything modern, I use mouse/keyboard.  On the keyboard, I like a control set that's got around 10 buttons to configure.  I don't have an issue with memorizing it and like the additional control it gives you.  I look at it this way.  Space Quest 3 was awesome but had semi-complex controls.  You had to move with the arrow keys (or mouse) and type in commands.  They moved to the more streamlined icon-system which gave you a few options to choose from with the same character control system.  Later on, they did Phantasmagoria & KQ7.  Both of which had the click-to-move and 1-click-does-all system.  I hated those, it was almost like watching a movie where you have to hit a button to go to the next scene.  I like my FPS's & RPG's the same way.  I like to have controls to run, crouch, duck, lean, use, etc.  Just as long as I'm not using 1/4 of the keyboard to do it.  I liked Gabriel Knight I's system.  Various icons for various actions.  It kept it specific (almost like in the parser games) without making you guess which command did what.

It's Kaaz's pick for the Sprite Jam winner.  Kaaz, get off your lazy ass and pick a winner so we can go to the next one.

Aransay Heras, Ricardo
Ayala Rico, Juan Ignacio
Baldó García, Iván...

That was the order we followed in the school... We won´t use that here ^_^
Good, what a relief!  It would've been a pain in the ass to get Juan Ignacio Ayala Rico to contribute.  He can be extremely lazy.

You mentioned removing hardware but I'll assume it was sort of cursory.  I've had this happen a couple times after a move, even when the thing hasn't been bounced about much.  Here's what I'd try if I had the problem:
1) I'd make sure the outlet was good, probably by trying the PC at a couple different ones.

2) I'd reset the BIOS.  There's often a reset jumper.  Failing that, you can disconnect the PC from power, and remove the coin-battery for a bit to reset it.

3) I'd dismantle it as much as possible.  Then, I'd put stuff in carefully and thoroughly, starting with the bare essentials: Videocard, HD, PSU, RAM (the motherboard I'd have left connected).  If it still didn't boot, I'd go back to step 2.  If still nothing, I'd start swapping out parts with known good ones.

Maybe if you got it right the first time, Hyde?  ;)
I'm running an athlon 2400+ w/ stock cooling.  The only fans in the system are the CPU fan, Radeon fan & PSU fans and it runs pretty cool (about 51°C under full load).

This is horribly non-scientific but:
10:20 PM (PST) from California.  Connection: 584kbps DSL via 10 Mbps wireless connection.

Main page load: 2.5 seconds
Main page Refresh: 2.65 seconds
View submission [4592263]: 2.7 seconds (r=514x682)
View submission [4576823]: 1.82 seconds (r=681x800)

Seems pretty quick to me.  I would have to assume that sluggishness is due to traffic at certain times of day and not do to the site itself.

They come in pretty colors so they match wonderfully with your Barbie collection and Teen magazine posters.   I'm sure some people out there swear by 'em but I'd swear of computing before going Mac-only.

I plan on going (like it or not) and agree that anytime after February but before December is alright with me.  Ideally, it'd be sometime in July (which has been determined).  It'll be difficult to get any advanced-RSVP's until there's a definite date set.

Also, wanted to add that any potential attenders whose parents seem somewhat dubious might want to check out the official site: http://www.mittens.cjb.net/. You could even send aforementioned parents there since the site is rather well-done and does a decent job of answering basic questions.  If anyone would like a letter or two written to their parents, you could just post a request and I'm sure that several over-21 members would be happy to oblige (except DG, he'd use the Fuck-word too often).

Critics' Lounge / Re:A gnarly tree stump

If this could be done in a consistant style with a character that didn't stand out too badly, it'd be excellent.  I think, however, that to reap the benefits of 3d-rendering, each background would have to be its own scene and not just a gathering of "tiles."  If you experiment a bit more and throw a full background together, please post it.. it's an idea I've been playing with myself...  not that I've been playing with myself.. ah, nevermind.

As for critiques, the top of the stump seems a little inconsistent with the style.  Something about the grain looks a bit off, you may wanna check a reference again.  Also, the color's a bit too bright for the surrounding bark.  From the way the light interacts with the rest of the objects, I'd imagine the exposed wood wouldn't be quite that brightly highlighted.  Absolutely excellent construction/rendering though.

Ya know, DG, all I had to do was note that the last post was made by you, to be able to guess the reply.

I did get it a bit wrong, though.  I figured it'd be more like, "Maybe it's just user-error, Fuckwit!"
