also I really enjoyed advent rising for the original xbox! also very flawed sucky framerate and what not but amazing pace and cool gameplay atmoshpere one of my favs!

I have this for PC! And yeah, terrible frame rates and crap, but I really, really enjoyed playing through it! A lot of it is overblown bullet time and special effects, but it all feels really cool when you're playing!

I've tried playing through it again twice since finishing it, and both times have lost interest, but that first time was absolutely magical!

I always went for the merge with Helios ending. Shows how dull I am...

What about "Get in the bac- ARGHHH"

Edit: What, no takers? And it's from a very popular game, too  ???

How about some of these then:

"Abandon ship! Abandon ship!" "Did he say ship, or sheep?" Random sailor bad guys from No One Lives Forever (Yay Leon)

or

"Shitbag! I use all the ammunition for weapon!" Ivan from Jagged Alliance 2 (Yay Bulbapuck's friend!)

or

"Yes, oh omnipresent authority figure?" Jaheira from Baldur's Gate (Yay Calin Leafshade)

or

"That was left handed!" Commando from Command & Conquer (also Havoc from Renegade, I believe) (Yay Radiant)

or

"CARLSON AND PEETERS!" Double H from Beyond Good & Evil (Yay Mr Flibble!)

8)

Another one, while I'm remembering things from games of my past:

"That's the way to show those bast- I mean... good hit, sir!" Virgil from Arcanum (Yay Akatosh!)

Only one left, folks!

I add my votes to The Spirit Engine and Return Fire.

Man, Return Fire. Nostalgia hits like a 17" CRT dropped from the 9th floor of an office block, and I'm left yearning for a time when games were so honest in their appeal...

If you own a DS you must play Henry Hatsworth

I'm stuck on the final battle of the third world. I almost beat it the other day, but the nurse got the better of me  :(

But yes, hilarious game. The boss characters are so damn preposterous (in a very good way) that it is a pleasure to be beaten by them ;)

Oni: Fantastic fight system.. there are not enough games like this in the world.

I must have played through the demo a hundred times when I was younger and couldn't afford to buy real games.

Always meant to buy the real thing, and never quite got around to it  ???

As for me, I only ever play mainstream games that everyone's already heard of  :=

Well, it is not actually impossible. Here is how I do it:

Once I've decided on the actual name of the game, I get my game folder in My Documents and copy it, then paste it into My Documents - So I'll have "New Game" and "Copy of New Game". Then I'll rename "Copy of New Game" folder to "Thunderhead" or whatever I want to call my game, and use this set of files to build and compile my game. This works fine for me - the new .exe compiles as "Thunderhead" just as you'd expect, and the winsetup file recognises it perfectly. You could probably even shorten the method by just renaming the original folder if you so choose.

Hope this helps :)

I think it could benefit from a little more atmospheric perspective - which I tried to add by washing over the distant objects with a low transparency brush the same colour as the sky (maybe I went a bit over the top though).

I hope this helps a bit :)

A sloppy and rushed entry from me, just to practice a different sort of setting:

For those interested in this sort of thing, I decided to only allow myself to use 2 layers to do this background, and I still think it turned out well enough (considering this restriction).

The moon looks a bit ordinary, as do many other elements, but I call it done and leave it as it is.

Edit: A little mockup, using an old sprite I did ages ago:

btw, can a mod move this to a new thread? Thanks.

Considering that this is a competition thread, and that it is in the Competitions and Activities board, wouldn't it be simpler just to stop posting in here and communicate via PM? The competition hasn't even ended yet ;)!

It is Zephyr, underdressed and overblown Goddess of the gust.

She'll blow you away  :=

(and yes, I know zephyrs are mild, but I like the way the name sounds  8))

It supports different levels of opacities within an image, so you can have smooth edges and the like.
#1897
Yeah, 16 bit doesn't support the alpha channel, so that is most likely your problem. Switch the colour depth to 32 and you should be right to go!

Edit: Gah, Khris is too quick!  8)

Make sure you check the sprite in game.

The sprites look strange in the previews in the Sprites and Views sections, but once you actually run the game they should look normal :)

Also, if you import them as objects into a room, they should look normal in the room editor!

If you still have problems, make sure that you've set the colour depth to 32 bit and saved the .png properly out of Photoshop.

My 'scribbles' are entirely computerised on google docs.

SoI'm afraid I win..

I tried making all my notes on a computer, but it seemed completely unintuitive, time consuming and pointless. I can't sit Satan Google Docs on my knee whilst mucking around in the editor and stick a keyboard behind my ear in easy reach. I know, Alt+Tab and all that jazz, but I like to take notes with the game/editor open. And in another room when an idea hits me.

So I refuse to accept your claim of winning  :=

I have a single notepad, but all the pages are filled with scribbles. Some of them actually game related...
