I wasn't going to comment here until after I finished playing it, but seeing as I can't believe how few people have commented here...

I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've played through thus far - the puzzles are better than in BTDT by a long way and I've been very impressed by some of them. The graphics are still very colourful and I found the special effects were very snazzy.

It's fun! It's naughty enough to make me giggle but tame enough to show my dad (well, some bits anyway)! It's cheap - I bought it and I'm a pikey bugger! I have to say I'm a little sad that the game hasn't gotten more attention on here than it has so far.

Anyways...

Nice work, and shame on you for the dead mouse puzzle!

Hey Johnny, and welcome :)

At the moment I am working on a very small game project with what I've learned here, but plan to come back and do some more learning once that has been released.

Cheers

I am a lazy guy!

I live in a small town!

I love heavy metal music!

I love fast food!

And I also like games about zombies.

Therefore: I can relate to this right here!

Bring it on! :D

Happy birthday to dkh!

Point taken, and I do remember seeing some of these, but I still would very much like to see a bit of gameplay footage :).

The Life Of D.Duck games have fantastic graphics! They're really worth a look.

Well, Invisible War was chunky on the computer that I had at the time, and is still chunky on my current computer (Which can run games like Crysis quite happily), so I guess it must be something to do with the porting. I'd really love to try playing it in a situation where it ran smoothly and didn't take an excessive amount of time to load levels (things like level loading times very rarely frustrate me, but in this case they did).

I got excited about Deus Ex 3 when they released the little 'trailer', but seeing how little I've heard/seen about it my excitement has waned. Naturally, as soon as some solid data about it appears I will regain excitement!

They're linear and they're not open world, but Deus Ex, and Deus Ex Invisible War are very open in how you decide to play the game, and give you choice in your actions and those choices have consequences in the storyline. They're also more steampunk with guns and not ye olde rpg.

For example, in the first game, you could choose to save your brother, or let him fend for himself in a gunfight. If you save him, he's there in the game later on to help you, but if you let him die, then he's a goner!

Deus Ex was fantastic! Deus Ex: Invisible War was pretty great (I didn't finish it thought) but it had some weird issues - the engine seemed really chunky, even on a beefy pc and the level load times were a little frustrating. But still a nice game.

This just became my new favourite palette.

Awww Jakerpot, no need to be like that man!

The point is, it is a free game, and a personal project, which counts as a learning experience. The graphics aren't the most important point, and even if they were then this isn't the place to get help on them.

Personally, I don't see why the game cannot be made with these graphics - they suit the purpose fine. It makes me a little sad when I see people posting such things.

Sorry to go offtopic  :-[

Back to the point at hand:

Seems like you've made a decent start to the game, even if there wasn't heaps to do yet. It'd be nice to have Cindy give us a little introduction speech at the start as well. :)

I also have to say that the title of the game brought a smile to my face, as I was once thinking about making a little project called 'Space Captain Steve' (I probably even have the graphics sitting around somewhere).

Good luck with the game :)

Thanks for the suggestion, Khris :)

Sadly, I've tried adjusting both player position and walkable areas and I still get the same issue. Strangely enough, it seems to only be occuring when I use the character.Say() command when running a dialog_request. Could it be that this only happens when the character.Say() command is called from the global script?

Cheers :)

Ali: Thanks! It's very inspiring to hear such comments, and I am always pleased when someone shares my fondness for the narrator. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the game, thanks for taking the time to comment :).

SteveMcCrea: And thanks again! I know it has been some time since I released this game, and I hope to have something new for you soon :).

This is reply #100 to the thread, and while it feels a little silly to make a big deal out of hitting what feels like a 'magical' number in the decimal system, I do find it very enouraging, inspiring and flattering that so many people have taken the time to play my game and share your thoughts on it. I really appreciate every single comment - you are a great audience, and I cannot wait to have something new to show you people!! :)

Happy birthday Nightfable. If you still read these, that is.

I will very strongly second GG's reccomendation of Bloodlines. And the need to patch it. And that it is purely blissful gaming!

Hi all :)

I've noticed something in AGS 3.12 (well, 3.1.2.81) that I thought was something I was doing wrong, but I cannot seem to find a fix for it.

When I have a character facing a certain way (I've only noticed it when the character is facing left, but I may be incorrect here) and they begin talking at certain times, the direction they face seems to change to the 'down' direction, then flick back to the 'left' direction when they are no longer talking. I had this problem in Shifter's Box and am starting to have it again. Is there something new in 3.12 I have missed, or is this unexpected behaviour?

If need be, I am happy to upload a file with this issue so you can see for yourself :).

Cheers

General Discussion / Re: Devin Townsend's Ki
Wed 27/05/2009 10:48:11
Subjective things like music are always going to divide people, I guess.

There are plenty of reasons why I find his work so endearing - and it's not because of his guitar ability. Far be it for me to coherently express what appeals to me in his music - however one thing I enjoy is his use of dynamics (ie, the gentle to harsh changes as mentioned by Anian). Personally, I don't find myself interested in the types of music that stick to one general sound; rather than having all mellow or all heavy I prefer a mix of both. For me, this creates nice variations in the listening experience which keeps me interested and entertained.

That being said, when I first heard Strapping Young Lad I was quite put off by the aggression present in the music. Only after several listens did I find myself enjoying it, and whilst Zooty claims that the lyrics are simple, I often find them honest, quirky and sometimes just plain funny.

Bulbapuck, as for Devin Townsend's solo stuff, well, it really is a bit of a mixed bag. I believe that the common consideration is that Strapping Young Lad represents one extreme of Devin's personality and his solo stuff represents the other extreme - meaning that if you are really fond of the SYL sound you might not actually enjoy his less aggressive solo material. However, the sounds vary quite a bit from album to album, so you might find something you enjoy. Personally, I enjoy both :).

Also, Zooty, are we even allowed to question what "art" is anymore? ;)

And as for the screaming... I guess he just had a bad week?

I managed to guess this:

Spoiler
The jacket says 'large jacket' when you mouse over it, and considering the size difference, it suggests that you need to shrink the jacket to fit the main character.

Still, not the clearest thing, I agree.
