Thank you for the comments :).

Andail, with regards to using reference images, I hear this a lot but nobody has ever explained the proper way to use reference images. Should I just google a picture of a house and try to paint it as best I can? What's a good starting point for a reference image, what sort of things should I look for in a reference image?

I know I seem to start one of these threads every 2 months. Sorry about that  :-[

I realized the other day that I had tried my hand at doing a non pixel style of background for ages and it is something that I keep wanting to learn. Seeing as I had some free time this evening, I thought I'd take another shot at it. It's about dang time, really.

Most of the elements here are inspired by Loominous' various backgrounds, but I kept the layout pretty simple for now because I didn't want to break my head trying to draw all sorts of neato stuff. I'm actually fairly happy with how both the foreground and the background turned out, but I know that there's new techniques you guys can teach me, so I eagerly await your critics! If there is a single thing I have to point out that I dislike it would be the lack of texture on the grass.

Technique wise I used 2 layers for this image, one for the sky, clouds and moon and one for the hill and shack. To do the background I used a large soft edge brush with the pressure sensitivity set to opacity and size, and to do the foreground I used a small soft edged brush with the same settings. I forgot to time myself but I'm guessing it was somewhere between 15-30 minutes (a long time, I know  :-[)

As with all the past times, your time is very much appreciated.

I only noticed it myself because it's on someone's signature (I forget who, sorry).

Haha, and the person whose signature it is in posted in this thread and everything :P!

Who else would have something to do with HHGTG in their sig if it wasn't DualNames? The lad's practically feverish with his love of it! ;)

Great logo, by the way. I love those orange tones :)

Glad to help :D

It might be that the RANDOM variable gets set to 0, which, unless I am sorely mistaken, will disable the timer. Try recalculating the RANDOM variable whenever it gets set to 0 :).

Blake Gallagher and the Seventy Two Reasons Why I Lay Awake At Night Thinking About The Time In The Fifth Grade When I Made A Choice That I Could Never Move On From And The Real Reason That I Smile When I Smell Cinnamon.

Or Blake Gallagher and the Blake Gallagher Band.

Nice work! Well done for turning something that could be a very awkward game indeed into something pretty funny ;).

Everyone who taught me how to draw. Mostly ProgZmax, Krysis and Mashpotato. And Andial. And Loominous. And... wow, there have been a lot of you guys!

Everyone who taught me how to script. Mostly Paolo and Ghost.

Everyone who has added music and sound to my games. That would be you, Pfaller brothers.

The people that spend hours testing for me and giving great advice. Mostly Ghost, Bicilotti and Sebastian, but also Pittiz and possibly soon to be others ;).

Chris Jones. Obviously.

The nice people who talk/have talked to me in MSN/Tokbox/Stickam/IRC/PMs.

The people that say nice things about my games ;).

And lots of other awesome people (this whole community basically).

I listen to music all the time while I sleep. Often I'll have the same "sleeping album" for a month or two, meaning it gets a few hundred/few thousand subconcious listens.

There were times where I'd have the same "sleeping album" for a long time (possibly up to 6 months) and I never rushed out to buy tons of merchandise or any such thing of the bands. Unless their other albums count.

So perhaps it's best to find another cause for your obsession. Or perhaps this tinfoil nightcap actually works...

Thanks Vince!!! :D

The only reason I put them out so quick is because I make them short, but I appreciate the comment anyway. Thanks for playing and commenting, and maybe I can find some time to make another game for you guys soon ;D.

Dave Gilbert AND Ali?

Today must have been the day they were handing out talent to newborns.

Happy birthday, guys!

Nice work, bog, I thought it was great ;)

And when you get there, click on boxes like "horror" and then do a search. It'll narrow the entries down a bit for you :).

I realize that I've already cluttered this thread up with so much expression of anticipation and excitement that you are probably bored of seeing my name in here. This, sadly for you, will not deter me from going and adding some more right here.

It is incredibly inspiring to see how much work you people have put into this game! I didn't expect to see anything in this trailer that would make me say "Resonance looks even better than before", but the second I saw that background animating, I realized I was wrong. So wrong!

There are so many little touches for everything in the game! The little circle when you click something, the different transparencies, all of these things completely amaze me. Seeing your auto scrolling and gui in action is really exciting! The character animations and everything, really. You people are talented and great!

Seeing this trailer is evidence that Resonance is filled with the sort of effort that makes a game feel professional. It makes me inspired and motivated to make games, and I really look forward to buying and enjoying this game when it is done.

Thanks for showing us a bit more of your game! I couldn't possibly be more excited about it!

Edit:

QuoteBen, if and when I make another video, I'll show off the dialog system for ya!

???

;D

How many frames are you planning to use? Just use a few frames, it's not going to matter really :).

Aww, I didn't find the interface in A1 so bad when using the number keys to switch verbs. Once you figured out which button selected which verb it worked fairly well for me :)
