Nuts to that, I'll start another game!

That response is the best way to ending up with 8 unfinished games  ;)

Trust me, I am proof of this  ;D

A quick, crappy entry I made out of boredom:

The tribe shaman performing the daily boot up ritual in front of the all knowing oracle.

6 colours, for those who get excited about that sort of thing.

I say, good show  :D

I don't recall progz ever entering a music competition.

I recall him winning one where the entrants had to make an 80s tv show theme tune.

I so agree with second hand stuff. I managed to get all of my furniture for less cost than you can spend on a single chair! And for the price of one new pair of trousers, one can buy 20 or so used but still very good condition trousers (not that I buy 20 pairs of trousers at once, mind you...)

I have one of those credit cards that is not actually a credit card, and yeah, they're really handy, not 100% pure evil like some would say!

Obviously--and I tell him this all the time--you can't really do that in today's market.  Real estate doesn't jump as high as it used to with only a few years of owning a house.

It does, actually, depending on where you live.

I'm one of those evil folk who used to work in a bank and lend money to people.

If ever anyone asks me for financial advice, which they often do, I tell them this: Avoid debt, if at all possible.

People tend to confuse want with need, and allow their spending habits to be swayed by this. When you say "I need to buy this", think whether you truly need it, or whether you can go without.

Learning to spend money within your means seems to be a difficult concept for most people to grasp, so try sticking to the simple rule of "If I can't afford it, I won't buy it". It is easy to get yourself into deals and repayment situations that you really cannot afford and did not actually need to enter in the first place simply because of a few impulse purchases.

As for knowing what you want to do when you grow up? 21 years is not that many - you still have a long life left ahead of you, hopefully. My theory is that if you worry about the future too much, it'll catch up with you before you realize, and you'll never end up getting anything done anyway. Enjoy each day as an opportunity to do the things you like, and you'll probably end up achieving what you want to anyway.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Happy Birthday Thread!

It's that Grundislav guy's birthday, and he is cool :D!

Admiral Flapjack salutes you for obtaining another 12 months of strategic territory!

It took me ages to decide how to draw my ninja, then I remembered that real ninjas all wear hats.

6 colours unless you count the grey backdrop colour.

From cutlasses to katanas: Who can complain!?

Edit: Similar to last time, here is the character put into a scene, just for fun.

Again, 6 colours.

Ps, nice sprites Evil and SPC :D

Thanks, Ryan. I agree that her forehead is one row of pixels too high, but no more than that ;). Lowering it more that 1 pixel makes her look quite alienish. Also, I don't see the problem with giving the woman a bit of a belly (not that it was intentional :P). I already knew the feet suck. I still hate drawing feet. I hope to get my characters looking sort of like a cross between what they are now and slightly more realistic, so I certainly won't totally abandon the way I draw them, do not worry :).

Anyhow, I spent a bit of time mixing colours to try and get a better light skin tone going, and this is the result:

The first one is just the tan tone for comparison, from there I kept blending and mixing colours until I ended up at the last one, which imo is the best out of the row of light ones.

Your thoughts?

Radiowaves: Yeah, the blurry zoom trick is one I forgot about because I use Firefox 2 :P. Next time I'll resize the pics before I upload em :).

Ghost: Thanks for the comments, I see how Beverly's skin tone is similar but still quite a bit different to my choice. Interesting base colour, more yellow than what I would normally choose, but it works well so something I will keep in mind. Hell may have frozen over, we cannot be sure ;D

ProgZ: Hooray! Thanks for the big paintover :D. I see how you got your lighter skin tone - I was moving towards green, thinking that going for yellow would make it lighter, going for purple would make it darker, but I can see that moving towards purple work as well. That's something I didn't realise, and mucho useful! I now see that my characters (especially the blue haired one) have enormous bobble heads and am ashamed of them!

Hey there, Critics Lounge folks.

Sorry I haven't visited you guys much lately, but I am looking for a bit more help.

The object of today's drawing practice was for me to practice both the female form (which I have struggled with for some time now) and human skin colours (as opposed to my normal blue and green skin tones :P)

The end result is basically Ben304 drawing half naked ladies. Hey, it worked for MashPotato ;D

Anyhow, this is where I have gotten:

As you can see, the one I hate the most is the light skin tone - I cannot stand it so much that I had to stop drawing with it. I'd love some pointers on how you go about getting your skin tones, especially light ones.

Also any other comments you have or edits or whatever are always appreciated by me, in case you forgot since last time :).

Thanks for reading!

Monique's character sprite may possibly be the single greatest sprite anyone has ever drawn ever.
#2256
Thanks :D

As soon as I saw your name on this thread I thought "Well, I guess we already know who has won this sprite jam" ;). Excellent sprites!

The ex-wife you describe here sounds exactly like an insane ex-gf of mine.

Heh, seems like a worrying number of people have the old "insane ex" thing in their pasts ;)

Good luck for the future.

I liked the bit in The Secret of Monkey Island where you are under the water and tied to the idol of many hands.

Also, Day of the Tentacle's puzzles where you flush items down the toilet to other characters in the past and future was pretty darn neato.

As to Kosher killings. Slitting the throat is one of the most painless ways to go, your almost instantly become unconscious and you bleed out very fast. Even if you witnessed twitching, it doesn't bespeak of pain to the animal.

...wait, are we sure of this?

It's not like they can do experiments on a person, then bring him back and he can go "On pain rating, I give that 2/7" or whatever.

Sure, we might measure brain waves or whatever, but how do we know that is accurate  ??? Not so long ago we thought the earth was flat ;)

I understand that not everybody has the same financial situation. I wasn't really looking for an explanation here - no matter what you do, there will be an explanation which you are confident in for your actions. I can understand that you are comfortable with the explanation, but I'm sure you can see why other people are less accepting of your explanation.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that you have a choice, no matter what. Some people may have more choices than others, but you still have a choice in the matter. If the wellbeing of animals was the most important thing in the world to you, then I am sure you'd make the sacrifices necessary. It's clearly not, and I don't expect it to be - but money or no, you have a choice.

Also, what you consider luxury and what others consider luxury are two different things. I consider going to university a luxury :). I am sure there are many people across the globe that consider coffee and meat a luxury. When we break it down to basics, a human being's needs are not that great. Everything other than the bare, bare essentials can be considered a luxury :).

Personally, yeah, I've got plenty of money. But that is a choice I have made. I haven't travelled (except for work reasons), didn't go to uni (although mainly because I don't know what I want to be when I grow up) and make sure that I have frugal spending patterns, and am committed to working. I don't expect everyone else to have the exact same habit - just don't tell me you have no choice in an issue :).
