After a quick dash through my cd collection, allow me to recommend the following albums:

Vulcanus by Fear My Thoughts
City by Strapping Young Lad
Doomsday Machine by Arch Enemy (I know you said you hate barking but you also mentioned Children of Bodom)
Obsolete by Fear Factory (You said you liked the whole techno/metal combine thing so this could work for you, though it's more industrial sound stuff than techno)
Sacrament by Lamb of God (You said you had some - if you don't have this it's worth checking out at least)
The Fall of Ideals by All That Remains (Not sure of your stance on metalcore - it's worth checking out, even if you don't really dig bands like Killswitch Engage)
Leviathan by Mastodon (Ok, so it be weird, but keep listening for a while at least :))

Hopefully there's a few here that you haven't checked out and like. I've recommended my favourite albums by the group - they might have other stuff you can get into.

EDIT:
Just realised I'd missed The Blackening by Machine Head. SOME people claim it's one of the best metal albums ever. Can't say I'd go that far, but it is good.

And if you want a giggle at singing, check out the song Painkiller by Judas Priest. Actually, check it out anyway. Not only is it ridiculously over the top metal, it is by a band who generally sound nothing at all like they do on this song!

Oh, and because you didn't mention them, Rust in Peace by Megadeth and Master of Puppets by Metallica, although I'm sure you've heard them.

EDIT 2:

Oh, and Self Destructive Pattern by Spineshank - kind nu metal, but not in an annoying sort of way (not to me, anyhow)

As a kid, I used to love playing Command & Conquer and Red Alert, and when I got Red Alert 2 I fell in love with it (despite being a decidedly average RTS player), but lately it's been Starcraft.

At first I couldn't get into it, but at a friend's insistence (he IS a fanboy - to a ridiculous level, really) I kept playing LAN games, and with a bit of experience under my belt started to actually enjoy it. I'm a horrible player - if I haven't won the match in 10-20 minutes, I get so lost with what I'm supposed to do that I lose the match, meaning I focus on mostly aggressive strategy, and I'm hopeless when playing as zerg or terran, but if I get a good game in it really gets my heart pumping and gets me feeling competitive, which is what multiplayer (save for co-op) is really about.

I like the fact that all the races are so different on a fundamental level - something also present to a degree in Warcraft 3 - and I also really like the graphics. Especially when you shoot a probe carting a barrel of vespene gas and you get a delightful explosion that is half orange, half blue.

Yes, I focus on little things.

It's a lovely song.

Very nice - your art has improved very much!

The ear could do with a bit of adjusting, though.

Ildu: hi-res is cool, but try to animate Mash's mermaid!!! ;D

Who needs animation when you can convey this much motion with a still image?

As usual your work excels. I look forward to this one being finished :).

Just a quick suggestion here Akatosh, using your old images.

I'd like to see the broad looking a bit more feminine. I've done a small example to indicate what I mean - I feel she looks very plain as she is now.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Stu,

Quick edit here man - I've stuck to your palette for the sake of sticking to your palette, but a few changes you should be able to see. When it comes to lighting, I generally favour top down, by the way - it makes it easier to get the characters fitting in with backgrounds since lights are on most ceilings.

Interesting choice of character... hope this is helpful :).

Could it have something to do with the fact that in one instance you have "Okey" and in another you have "oKey"?

Not much of a programmer, but this looks odd to me.

Sounds good - at points the guitars were a little too drone-y for my tastes, and the voice around 2:45 sounded a bit odd, but other than that I like it :).

I am quite ashamed to bring this up, but the curiosity is getting the better of me -

Will there be any reference to Balder's Gate? (as in Baldur's Gate - I'm sure you knew what I meant, of course)

Happy birthday Ghost!

I'd like to be stubborn here and show you how easily and quickly shading can be done:

This was, of course, done in mspaint - which is not a bad program, it's just far less convenient than others and I use it for a fair bit of my stuff. I'm not saying that a shaded version is the only way to go - obviously your sprite is great without shading - I'm saying it's not that hard to achieve if you want to go there.

I also reserve the right to appreciate sprites based solely on their feet, and am hopeful you will respect this ;D.

However, if you want a Goblin, weak looking is very nice. I feel this looks like a goblin more than an Orc, agree with Andail that there is room for improvement with regards to facial expression and pose, and agree with a number of other people that the sprite looks very nice.

Awesome. There are a number of things I'd like to "Awesome" at, but the long list would probably annoy people. So allow me to "Awesome" the entire thing.

Awesome.

Heh, well done indeed, and I have to say that reading through the comments posted about it have brought joy to my day.  ;D

(Not that your comic didn't, but I'd seen it before, so it brought joy to a different day.)

Looks great - really dig the alternating linework thickness and the left foot :).

Awesome edits, ProgZ! I like these characters quite a bit, and thought I could show you one way you might consider adding more detail to the face:

While you lose the lovely coloured eyes here, it shows a bit more detail, I think.

This game has many chances that the player will screw up.
Do you think I should implement an autosave system?

Personally yes, depending on the situation. If you make it very clear that the player could screw up before letting him/her screw up, it shouldn't be a problem, and we should know to save. However, if I'm walking somewhere and without any warning, I die because I didn't do something that I was given no indication I had to do first, then I'm going to get pretty frustrated pretty quick - especially if I have to re do a whole bunch of stuff I've already done.

I'm sure others will disagree - there's possibly a whole discussion in the Adventure Related Talk section about this design feature but, hey, I've posted my 2c.

It was a pleasure to design this, and hopefully it will adorn the odd desktop.

Consider mine adorned. I wish there were more AGS game desktop wallpapers around but, hey, I have this one now :D.

Awesome - I've been thinking about getting a tablet myself lately, and was wondering what to go for. Thanks for the tips!
