With regards to the pen jab thing - I know it can stop your fan making noises, but I doubt it will help with this problem at all - I was posting in relation to Oliwerko's comment, so in this case I'd definitely get another fan.

I'm now wondering how many watts your power supply is rated at, and whether this could be the problem - perhaps it doesn't have enough juice getting to it to start it up? Seems a bit unlikely but, if your computer ran fine before.

Well, the fan in question still works quite well, so it is not damaged to the point that it does not function as the fan should. I have had the fan in question since 2003. That it has run for 5 years (even with my pen jabbing ways) is quite pleasing to me. I believe the temperature issue is not to do with the fan freezing - it is more likely in my opinion to be related to the fact that materials expand and contract when temperatures change. Perhaps this causes blade warpage, as suggested by EldKatt, and the pen jars the fan into a position that doesn't cause the sound. You may ridicule the theory if you choose, however it has worked for me for 5 years without ruining the fan, so I stick by the theory. It solves the problem of the annoying noise, and my fan still works - I shall state that it is a real solution, however I will agree that there are better solutions.

My apologies of course, I don't mean to be argumentative, but stating that something that works for me is worthy of ridicule is something I am inclined to disagree with.

If you live in a country that's so cold the mechanism of the fan freezes then you should just buy a fan that's made of materials that won't freeze.

BTW, that was more than a year ago Ben. And I don't regret it for a second. Just to let her know what she meant to me, it was worth it. As for "Phone Girl From Work"...I'm interested but I'm not buying the phone to try and spark her interest in me. I just like to do nice things for pretty girls.

Hey man, it's cool, I'm not saying you shouldn't do nice things for pretty girls. Doing nice things for pretty girls is great. I'm saying it costs lots of money, and when you do nice things, you like to make a real statement. Such as $100 valentine's gifts (which is easy to do if you're an executive, not so easy when you're a teenager) or a $250 telephone.

And hey - it's cool that you're doing it for the girl, I guess. It would be a shame if she took it the wrong way and stopped talking to you or something, is all. But - at least if YOU buy the phone, you'll get her number without having to ask her for it. 

I once had a fan that was making noises that were close to starting up a car, but only like 5 minutes after startup. Then, it dissapeared. I guess the cause was heat.

I had this problem. I asked my Uncle (who built my computer) what is was and he said something about cold days affecting bearings (I think he mentioned ceramic)... I don't know how accurate he was, but I noticed it was worse on cold days.

He told me I could fix it immediately by jamming a pen in the fan and then removing it. I'm now sure how good a practise this is, but hey, it worked.

As to InCreator - I think you should be able to find heaps of different fans to fit your PC (from what I have read in magazines) - it shouldn't have to be an original Intel fan, however I may be wrong.

As for the "problem" of "excessive" money, I found one way of solving that problem. That being that I have every intention of buying a $250 USD phone for a girl at work that I honestly don't know that well. But she seems cool and the phone would make her happy. So.

There's actually plenty of things that I could reasonably invest money in. New tires on my truck. A new truck.  Somehow driving a vehicle that was made in the same year I was (1988) just seems a bit disturbing. Makes me feel old!

My car was built 1976. I was built 1987. If the car still runs - why upgrade when you could buy the shark suit???

Personally I favour the saving option... if you're serious about getting to work with a gaming company, you might have start on a small salary (just guessing here) until you've got some experience... and staying up late at night, dressed as a shark, hugging a 50" screen and trying to remember what that girl you bought a phone for once actually looked like ain't gonna pay the rent or keep you fed. Unless of course you can get people to pay you for the privelige of watching.

Oh, and if Phone Girl From Work takes a shine to you, you can probably forget about the big screen. Especially remembering how you spent all your money on that other girl at valentine's day a while back....

@Planet topic - I guess this would be cool. Wouldn't it get awfully crowded awfully quickly though, with any old body writing their grand ideas on game design? I only do a minimal amount of blog reading, and when I do, I like to read things that are either very informative or very funny. Many blogs out there turn into yawnfests as their creators run out of things to post about. Not that me whinging about it should stop y'all from doing it if everybody else likes it.

Saying things like "The whole end is stupid too" has no actual purpose or point. It doesn't help Ghost improve his game making skills, and I found it quite offensive. I agree with you, it does take skillz (sic) to take characters from children's tales and put them together. I don't agree with you that telling somebody who has invested hours into a game that they allow you to play for free that they need to put more effort into their work is a fair call - remember these games are made by one person, not a team of people - and I am in no way impressed by people such as yourself, hiding behind your anonymity and making such comments.

I sincerely apologise to the moderators and all other forum members for feeding this troll, and, having made my point, refuse to take this discussion any further.

First of all, put a little / in front of the img so it looks like [/img] to display the picture correctly.
