Your friend Frankie has done some incredible pixel art here. I am very much looking forward to trying this game out.

Much, much better. Very charming background you have there. Make sure to add a footpath, of course, and you've got a beautiful clean background.

Way to add another element, JB. Nice feeling of depth in that edit.

Pixie Marmalade = Sprite Jam

The question you asked is the one you're supposed to answer.

Rushed late night paintover. Might try again later. Use more pixels, I say. And more contrast.

Awesome! Thanks for the video Tuomas.

I do not want come across sounding harsh for the sake of being a jerk, but if you want to sell your games for a profit, you're going to get people being harsh anyway. Here are my thoughts - they are merely intended to help you consider your strategy.

First of all, after seeing that the image links didn't work, I tried looking around on your website for screenshots as well. Where are they? If your screenshots don't work, people are going to be extremeley hesitant about ordering your game. Also, you spelt the word "Concepts" incorrectly in your navigation bar on your website - if you do this on your website, how do we know your game will not be full of spelling errors? And if you do no proof read to fix errors like this, it is possible you may not beta test to squash bugs, right? The point I am trying to make is to make a good impression.

I checked out the trailer Cinfa linked to on Youtube. If this is your trailer, I was less than impressed. Trailers are a personal little favourite of mine, but I think you need to study some other trailers and look what makes them want the game/movie/whatever. You had no music - how the hell are we supposed to feel emotion if you have no music. The graphics there would be fine if you weren't planning to go commercial, but take a look around the AGS games page at some of the free games whose graphics are, quite frankly, a lot more pleasing that any of the ones in the trailer.

Admittedly, adventure games are story based, so a lot of people consider that story is more important that graphics. This is very nice until only a handful of people who come across your game for out the money for it as people (including myself) tend to judge a book by it's cover. That said, if a game has a story and characters that give the player goosebumps, word of mouth should get around. Unfortunately, the plot elements revealed in the trailer and on your website were less than inspiring.

Also, you are offering a pre-order now. How about giving us a demo to make sure we know what we're getting into before we commit the sale? I know I am not one to give $5 of mine away just because you've completed all the animations.

All that being said, best of luck with your project, and I hope to see excellent quality games for sale from your company in the near future.

Ps - an extra $5 for a DVD case and a piece of paper saying I own the game? I can buy a blank disc and burn it myself for a couple of cents, and I expect a reciept from any transaction I do - which is a piece of paper, effectively saying I own the game. If you want to do a gold edition, consider doing a poster/soundtrack cd/whatever to make it worth the extra dough.

(well, maybe not in the amuse case...)

Whyever not?  ;)

Well, if you plan on loading the game onto the AGS games database, it has indicators for you to fill in stating whether there is violence, coarse language or nudity/sexual content.

Perhaps instead of going "THIS GAME HAS NUDITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!" put a note that says "Please note - game not suitable for minors. Please do not download if under 18" or something similar.

Stu my man, as someone who until recently worked for a bank, I know how silly the system can seem. I've seen customers been charged in excess of $300 dollars for being overdrawn once, and felt guilty about it - generally calling them or going to see your local branch is likely to have some result as you've found.

Unfortunately the reasons banks get away with such high charges includes the fact that first of all, all the other banks do it so people taking their money elsewhere won't benefit the customer financially, the fact that a lot of people are embarrassed about the fact that they overdrew their account and therefore won't complain about it and the fact that a lot of people are not very organised with their money and therefore have trouble keeping track of payments coming out etc.

It's a hard thing to have a definite answer for. On one hand - people shouldn't overdraw their accounts. On the other, the bank shouldn't let them. I believe perhaps the banking world could do with a bit of a shakeup. This sort of this is so common that I used to deal with it generally twice a week, and I worked in a smaller town thank most would believe exists.

I think I actually meant disturbed.

Not that I should be one to judge your favourite activities, but it hardly is a thing that one expects to find when browsing game engine forums.

Meh. It's 5 am - clarity left me 8 hours ago.

The more posts I read by you, VA, the more frightened I am by your profile age.

At least you're happy, I guess.

Hahahaha @ ManicMatt!!!!

I would probably say that if it was done in a mature manner, with an actual reason behind doing it for reasons other than getting more downloads, I'd be fine with it.

If it was done in an immature manner, for comedy, probably would still be fine with it. Depending on whether it suits the game or not.

I have no blog and I must scream. Or not.

Stu - would you mind sending me a PM when your review of Trance-Pacific is up?

Cheers

Glad you enjoyed it. Next game will (of course) be bigger better and shinier.

Thanks for playing!

Which is chocolate Soya milk but it's tastes way nicer than you'd think.

Man, when I was a kid, I used to LOVE the taste of Soya milk! I haven't had any for ages though....

...maybe I should go and get some to see if it is as good as I remember it. Unfortunately I fear it will just be me remembering things prettier than they really were again, and will destroy one more fond childhood memory.

Oh, the dilemma!

Jim, reading the first post would suggest that it was intended to be a tunic.

Anyway, a quick edit from me. For fun basically.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Background. Sigh.

It would seem the "sigh" I placed in the title of this topic was not entirely unwarranted.

I was staring at the picture after I posted it (I do this to all things - the more I look at them the less I like them, it generally seems) and said to myself "This looks kinda flat".

:(

To the GIMP I shall return.

I swear one of these days I'll be good at these things!
