Loominous - Thankyou for you redo. I can see that I still have a lot to learn. I think that with your alterations, the statue represents almost exactly what I'd pictured in my head when I thought I'd like to have a big statue.

I shall be studying these edits - going away for the weekend, and I only have 35 minutes left of my lunch break to muck around with redoing it, but I hope to redo it completely by myself, using tips that you guys have shown me, and make the statue look something like Buloghts, ProgZmax's and Loominous's version all mixed together.

Yes, I'm an idiot for hoping to draw something that good. But its worth a shot - I've learnt a LOT already just from looking at these edits.

Thanks a million, all.

Holy damn.

Tuomas - Thanks for the pointers bro. I'll be taking them into account (and starting again  :'() on this fella.

InCreator - Glad you like it. I wanna keep the background objects a little less contrasty so characters stand out more. But I might give an experiment.

ProgZmax - Of course, you are right. Thankyou for the lovely redo - I shall be restarting and taking into account all you have said and demonstrated. I appreciate this man.

Markbilly - Yeah. I'm starting again brother. I'm glad you like the colours. Watch this space.

*sigh*  ;)

Stupot - Glad you like it. A game?..... watch this space...

Jens - Thankyou for taking the time to do an edit. Definitely a couple of points there I can use.

Buloght - I should have known what to expect when I saw you'd posted here. Guess I'm gonna have to redo most of it. Thanks for the awesome paintover - looks like I've got a lot of work to do  :P.

[EDIT]: Changed the legs to resemble Buloght's version. Hopefully is looking a bit better:

More edits to come.

[EDIT 2]: A few more little changes (mainly the right arm):

My advice would be to make the leaves have much more volume. Cobra's edit is excellent. The leaves have plenty of body there.

Looking at your latest version I hardly see any leaves. Look at a tree from a distance and it is very hard to make out individual leaves - this is why Cobra's version works so well.

Oh, and giant moths are excellent.

Cobra - Thanks for taking the time to do an edit dude. I've tried to incorporate all your suggestions. Keep em coming.

Markbilly - I'm hoping that when the player character gets in there and is downscaled it will look big, and also will probably put little streetlights etc in to give perspective. The colours are meant to look like statue of liberty colours - the brown shadows are because its sunset coloured sky. I'm glad you like it, and the other background I am very happy with, thanks!

A couple of changes:

- Legs shaded. Pillow shaded. So what?
- Arm changed.
- Head made smaller. Well, actually, hair made smaller.
- I've left out the arrow because I'd like to make sure the arm is 100% before I put it in.

All comments very appreciated guys. Cheers!

I've been trying to figure out how to shade the legs on this statue and am not getting anywhere.

Every time I try I keep pillow shading the damn things. Any tips?

That left arm also looks a bit off to me, but I'm not 100% sure what the problem is. Could it be too long?

Cheers guys.

Not necessarily. Depends on the type of pump action. The one ildu shows are already short. If you were to saw off the barrel of a pump action, it'd be a shotgun like the following:

You'd saw the barrel off at any point up to the place where the tube magazine begins. Bear in mind that most shotguns are very long. I don't see how sawing off a shotgun would make it more powerful at close range, R4L - the force of the shot is still the same, however because the barrel is shorter (and also the choke would be virtually non-existant) the spread would be ridiculous, therefore causing more damage to an unarmoured opponent. At standard shotgun ranges, the gun would most probably be useless.

You can also reload & shoot a pump action with just one hand as long as you are willing to reload by grabbing the pump and making a swift down-up motion with your arm with the barrel pointed towards the sky. This method is probably best left for movies.

Please apologise for my being so offtopic, but the number of posts questioning one's ability to saw off a pump action was getting to me.

Mozesh - the original is a very nice sprite, which has improved and is perfectly usable as it is. The side on view confuses me a little - Assuming he's the same character, he is wearing a different shirt, his feet look a little off and his face looks kinda weird.

I wasn't gonna do a paintover. But I have tried to do a few minor changes - still not overly happy with my effort, but hopefully will get my point across:

- Adjusted face's profile & shading.
- Adjusted lighting on shirt.
- Altered position of left arm & leg.
- Changed feet a bit.
- Gave shotgun a longer stock.

Is this a good addition to the wall?

Also changed the gate shadow. Sitting on 23 colours.

Boney - You're the man. +respect dude. Bloodlust vocals are mean as hell. And the hat dance.... speechless. *kneels*

Tiki - Dude - is that you singing? And you're 16? Seriously dude, sing in your natural style, give the song your own flavour. Otherwise whats the point of covering the song? You've got the guitar parts cool, and the singing is fine, except I still think it would be better if we heard your own voice.

Thanks Dave - I can finally play it too!

Space boy, I think that's a good idea. I remember finishing the first level of Deus Ex without using any weapons, and it gives the game a whole different feel. But I agree that if you're going to make it optional, don't make one way the easy way out. I think each path to a game's completion should be equally challenging, as it makes for better replayability.

Its coming along very nicely. I particularly like the forest - its great.

For me, the colours and composition look fine. I'm not good at backgrounds so I have no advice, other than perhaps put a bit more yellow in the grass when the sunlight hits it.

The character looks good as well. I think he looks better skinny with a round belly because it emphasises the belly more. Drop the shoulders a little in the front view, I think, or at least make the arms look more like they're hanging loosely. It'll probably be easier to crit when it is a sprite.

Looking good so far, anyway.

Steel Drummer - Yeah, the sound quality is pretty good. Like everyone else has said, make sure you guys are working as a team.

Voh - Yeah man! Had me tapping my foot along. Reminds me of the stuff I used to listen to in high school man. Good work.

Boney - Man, consider me a fan. So much better than the original, IMO. Of course, I like metal, but yeah man - who needs all those whacky techno sounds when you can have harmonised lead guitar? I'm very impressed.

Markbilly - Yeah, detail will come in time. Slowly adding it in bits, few little cracks on the stone and stuff. I'll put some little shrubs and stuff around in time.

Cobra79 - Good idea, I never thought of that. I don't wanna stick it in this bg and crowd it out, but a cool transport system is definitely an idea I'll be using in one of the backgrounds to come.

Cino - You're right - the wall is meant to meet at the side of the "temple" (not actually a temple - I just wanted a cool sort of exotic look. It was originally gonna look WAY different, but I like to do things as I go). I've raised the wall. Hope this helps this problem a bit. Glad you also like the lights - they were the basis of this whole background, basically. That always seems to happen - I base a whole background on one silly little object and develop it from there. I like how the lights and sign sort of are little highlights in the image.

I'm planning to add a few shrubs and stuff in - weedy sort of plants - just for colour. Currently only uses 21 colours, so I'm not too worried about overdoing the colour.

I like this one much better. Good work.

The step in which the right leg is furthest back looks a bit weird. Lift the heel up a lot for this one. Youd could also make the gun bob a little.

Otherwise speed it up a little, and its looking good.
