but if you notice the game is set in the "Arctic" (well a research team is lost there) you may get the play on words.

Sounds and looks interesting MrAnonymus

Timosity,

It's a long story.

The demos will take some time but check out the website today for screenshots.

Yes I know it's a long story, I've just followed it without posting

General Discussion / Re:XP or 98?
Sat 03/01/2004 06:27:56
I've just upgraded to XP from 98, I haven't had any problems yet, I'm just experimenting on if it's worth keeping.

So far I like it, and as far as the new look, I don't like it so I have it set up to look exactly how 98 looked anyway, so appearence wise there isn't much difference, even the start menu.

It's much easier to set up all your hardware, it actually detects it compared to 98, having to unplug and plug things in turn it on and off and manually search the cd for the drivers etc.

I have it so it doesn't contact Microsoft, if I want an update I'll see if I want it in my own time.

With good Anti-Virus software, Zone Alarm, Adware and Spybot, my computer feels safe and secure, (but it's probably now equiped with all the information to have me under 24 hour satellite watch)

I'd say XP if it's a choice between that and 98, as LGM said, get VDMS sound, and other programs like Abandon Loader and ScummVM and you should be able to run most of the old Sierra & LucasArts games with full sound. I can't speak for all games though.

[i'd say the timer issues in some sierra games would almost be impossible to get around these days if you have a fast processor, I couldn't slow Down QFG1 VGA to get through Yoricks Room right near the END with an AMD 1500+ processor so I can't Imagine my 2.6Ghtz P4 would have any sort of chance]

I've stayed out of this entire mess too, but Jodo

Just ignore Erpy or anyone that gives you any trouble, don't retaliate, and it will not be a problem for you. Be a big boy, not some Bush type guy.

Just work on your game in peace and if it gets done, release it on a website and I'm sure people will download and enjoy it.

There is no real point to this thread, Whingeing will just make it worse.

if you release a demo put it on a website or don't even mention it, pleanty of people have offered to host it, and you haven't even responded to them.

Kazaa doesn't work the way you think, just cause you're running Kazza on your machine sharing the demo from your machine, doesn't mean everyone else will even be connected to the same server that has you on it, the chances are very slim, plus it would hardly be a popular file that anybody would have so it would be even harder to download.

Think before you post anything, I'm not flamming or bashing you, I'm just trying to give you some friendly advice, so my advice is to take this advice or otherwise, what DG said.

I'd really like to play the demo

t is better to call a continent with the name of the person who "officially" discovered it, than naming it by the first person who painted it.

Umm, I don't think Columbus "officially" discovered it, it had been settled loooooong before.

I think people should just be comfortable calling themselves what they feel, there is no right or wrong answer and of course South Americans can Call themselves American as can Central American's and Canadians. Just as people from the USA can even just use the initials US without even the America part if they like.

Although it is Easier if you want to know more specifically where someone is from by using the country name, State/Province/Territory/County, and narrow it down the more information you need.

We are all From Earth, Hang on, that's just me.

Roy and HG are great, I love when they have international guests, they have no idea how to interpret their humour, or even know whether it is humour or not. Although Dave Groll has been a guest a few times and is an exception to the rule.

Did anyone catch 'The Cream' during the Rugby World Cup, there was this old mens choir that sang some really funny DIRTY songs, it was classic. (but the show in general was lame, compared to The Dream, or State of Origin, or Changi, woops that was John Doyle, no relation to Mr Slaven)

Mother and Son is one of my all time favourites, I'm not a big fan of Garry MacDonald (although he's a great actor) but Ruth Cracknell was brilliant, she used to live up the road from me. RIP

The other day My mum showed me her Old Girls School Newsletter cause she was mentioned in it and on the same page there were also articles on Ruth Cracknell, and Nicole Kidman, (none of them were there at the same time but all successfull graduates)

[Sorry to keep up country specific shit, but you can get the DVD at Spud McFuks]

Mother & Son was probably shown on the BBC years ago, and Didn't Roy & HG recently (coupla years ago maybe) host a show in England?

Foster's isn't even brewed in Australia. It's brewed over here (Britain).

A lot of products do that when they're popular, especially Beer as it doesn't travel well, Some Irish guy explained to me once that Guinness doesn't travel well and tastes different the further you get away from the Brewery, apparently it only tastes good within a certain radius that is only quite small.

Imagine if Coca Cola was exported (it probably is within some bordering countries), it would be so shaken up and probably flat by the time you got it, plus I don't think it would be practical or possible for it all to be made in just one country

Some product names are exported and the company gets royalties I guess.

I wonder what the worlds most successful product is that doesn't contain some form of addictive drug? probably milk or something.

The Winter Olympics is probably a strange moniker to you folks.

Not really so much because it's always in the northern hemisphere, I sort of know it will be round summer sometime every 4 years. And it's not a big event cause we never win anything. We have no snow to practise in, although we have word champions in the arial jump thingy with twists and stuff.

I have no idea actually if the winter olypics has been in the sothern hemisphere, It's possible that it's been in a country in South America, but there isn't many places for skiing in the SH.

It is strange (as I'm totally going off topic) that there seem to be NO AGSers from the continent of Africa, It is even left off the AGS MAP, Surely there has been some in the past or I'm just not aware of everyone's location.

I'm a bit confused about a previous statement about Foster's.  I've heard on commercials that "Foster's is Australian for beer."  ;)

I've never heard of it, maybe it's Austrian beer

Yeah, it's just what we have in our taps (faucets) and if we run out we whistle really loudly and a Kangaroo ... no that story won't work

I'm sure you're aware from other posts that Fosters is just a famous beer we export so that CJ is kept happy and AGS continues to exceed our beliefs.

I think I've had Fosters once

I only noticed the other day my local shopping centre has an "Electronics Boutique" I think it's a fairly new chain here, I could be wrong as I'm not much of a shopper.

Just another similar little thing I've noticed which comes from releases of movies etc, is When someone says They'll release a game "Summer 2004", I usually just assume it means Summer in Northern Hemisphere, but that is only Northern Hemisphere specific. It's not really that much of a big deal, but It seems that a lot of people make this honest mistake.

What happens when you insert the win95 disk while xp is loaded?

does it give you an option to install it?

if not, it's possible maybe, to set up your BIOS and change the boot order so it boots from CD-ROM 1st, and maybe it will install over it, but I'm no expert in the matter, so It may screw up what's already there.

If you don't need what's on the machine currently or have backed up what you need on other drives or cd's, then you can format your drive and start win95 from scratch. But you may need a boot disk to start up DOS to format. Otherwise you could probably boot from the win95 cd.

So if you are prepared to experiment you can try these things, but having backups is definately necessary. Other people may have had experience in trying this so you may want to wait for someone else for other solutions, or you could probably search google for a possible solution.

I don't want to be responsible for screwing up your computer

Not sure exactly but I'm assuming you want to install another operating system over the top of it.

It maybe possible to insert an older version of windows in your cd drive, it may then come up with a message about it being an older version of windows and is not recommended, but I'm not sure, I've never tried it, so it might work that way.

I've only just started using XP professional, I haven't had any problems with it, and I've figured out how to run all my old games with it, so so far I haven't had a problem. I've heard windows 2000 is the best one so far but I don't know for what reasons, maybe I'll find out later, but XP is much better than 98 (as far as crashing goes).

what is it that sux about it, I'm interested in peoples opinions about it

AGS Games in Production / Re:Jon Stickman

Excellent little Demo guys, the puzzles are quite challenging, it took me a while to figure it all out, but I got there, maybe a few more interactions and unhandled events.

Spoiler
just a couple of small things I noticed:
The car trunk walkbehind is a bit strange I think, it was hard to figure out what it was supposed to look like, It seemed it was behind the car, were there brown straps attached to it, cause there was some thin walkbehind even when the trunk was closed.

You could walk through the trampampoline

With the electricity box, the bottom part of it could still be interacted with the hammer after it was already open.

And a couple of big things I noticed:
The size of the breasts on the stick figure, very cute, I enjoyed playing with her bush too.
[close]

Quite an enjoyable game, Look forward to it.

to me MX is a new swear word as the new Flash MX and Dreamweaver MX are shittake to the Xtreme

Are they bad cause of the interface, or is it just the programs itself? cause I remember a couple of years ago Macromedia had to change the interface because they lost a court battle with Adobe for stealing their interface.

I use Fireworks MX, I originally used it for web design, but it works as a normal paint type program with layers too, probably doesn't quite have the features of Photoshop, but it has enough for me. I'm not as good with Photoshop cause I haven't used it for a few years now (v5.5) and I'm much more familiar with Fireworks, I quite like using it.

I'd like to learn Flash again too, but I haven't played around with it since version 3, I have Flash Mx, but I've never actually used it, is it much like 3?

There's also now Photoshop CS which is PS8, I don't know if anyone has it, just thought I'd mention it if people weren't aware.

What's with these trends of adding 2 more letters like Macromedia MX, does this marketing work? what's wrong with just a new version number, do the extra letters make it any better, It's just like cars now, who the fuck knows what the extra letters really mean (I guess just different models), or are they just trying to scam us in another way, We're not that stupid are we?

I'd say Cornjob would be the last, there are some groups of islands further west than Hawaii but probably no AGSers.

New Zealand is 2 hours ahead of me and there are a couple of Kiwi AGSers but I don't think they post much in the gen gen.

If I remember correctly there's actually 25 or maybe 24.5 hours of timezones in the world, with 24 hours in a day, it overlaps somewhere, not sure where though, I think some Islands in the pacific, not sure if it's south or north.

It's now 5:15PM on Jan 1

Geez, don't bring that other thread in here, get over it

Yes, in general Americans tend to do this, but others are guilty of it too, I try to explain things sometimes if I think people in other countries won't understand what I'm talking about (but probably not always), but also It comes with experience of communicating globally, It's just a learning curve. Eventually everyone around here realises these things, and are more globally wise.

I also think it's strange we refer to the "Western World" to describe the developed world (if I can technically refer to it like that), Technically I'm from further East than the "Far East" yet still called a 'Westerner', mmmm, maybe that's American too, seeing as there is a lot of westerners, east of the GM (Greenwich Meridian [an invisible line that runs down the earth {180 degrees from the International Date Line <you can look it up on google>}]) Well technically The north pole is actually the south pole but I won't go into that, Also Electricity runs from negative to positive, Silly Northern Hemispherians not knowing that they are actually the ones that are Down Under.

It's a valid point, but I think we can help reneducate, eventually It won't be as common.

Just another note, you can also adjust the time in your profile, to + or - GMT, so the forum actually tells you the time where you are.

EG. where veryweirdguy says it was 13:17, for me it says 00:17 the next day

This is the first time I've read this thread, It's pretty silly too, I can't believe it's gone this far, and I'm actually dissappointed AGS didn't wish me a happy new year, I loaded AGS just to see if it would before I read this thread and was let down.

Oh well.

I'm sure people will live on for the other 364 days of the year, I'm glad Redrum pointed out the Easter Egg a few weeks before so I could test it out cause otherwise I wouldn't have known about it seeing as I didn't switch the computer on on Christmas, well untill 3 days later when the rest of the world caught up to christmas.

I can't recall in this thread anyone else being offended as much as Marcus, oh well, I guess there's always one, and always pleanty of people who like to keeps these things going, It's all just Entertainment.

Thank you Marcus for creating this thread (This is not sarcastic [I think])
