Completed Game Announcements / Re: I Forgot...

Yay. It's here!

I forgot is the story of Jeremy, who had once aspired to be a great artist. Several nights of hard work at his current office job have lead him to fall asleep during his work. When Jeremy dreams, he finds his old world waiting for him as it once was. Guide Jeremy through his dream and see if maybe you can help him to remember what he has forgotten.

This is a fairly short (takes me about 15 minutes to "speed run" it) game, fairly straightforward as well. You should note that I've made a 5th verb for this game. When Jeremy "thinks" about something, he can bring up memories about his past life or even come up with ideas on how to solve certain puzzles.

Hope you enjoy it!

Finished, I think! Is there only one ending?

but that's it.

By "that's it" do you mean you're stuck again and want more hints, or just that that's as far as you've gotten so far?

If you don't want more hints, ignore this post, but just in case you do...

The first item you mentioned, a lot of characters talk about, so presumably you already know what it's for.

Spoiler
It allows you to enter the Forest of Perpetual Night (or whatever it's called; don't remember the exact name).  (At least, I assume that's what it does because that's what everyone says it does; to be honest, I've never tried entering the forest without it, so I'm not sure what difference it makes.)
[close]

The second item... well, frankly, this was one of the puzzles I thought was the most unfair; there really aren't any clues for it (or if there are, I missed them).  I did get it, but only by trying items at random, not because there was any particular reason to believe that this should be the right item for it.  There's one thing you should have encountered earlier that you know you do need an item for, but there's no clue as to which item you need, and no apparent reason why it should happen to be that one.  To be more specific...

Spoiler
You should have encountered someone who was willing to let you have something if you gave him something in return.
[close]

Spoiler
I believe his exact words were to make him "an offer I can't refuse".
[close]

Spoiler
Have you asked Benny for a fish?
[close]

Spoiler
Okay, so if you try giving Benny the piggy bank, he still doesn't accept it... but he does give a response that seems to imply you're on the right track.
[close]

Spoiler
How could you change the piggy bank just a little?
[close]

Spoiler
Maybe if it were a different color?
[close]

Spoiler
Have you found the red paint?
[close]

Spoiler
If you haven't found it, it's in the abandoned house north of the thieves' shop.
[close]

Spoiler
Use the red paint on the piggy bank, then give the piggy bank to Benny.

Thanks again Alun, I must have tried

Oh, don't worry about them yet; you've got a lot to do before you'll get to them.  The first thing you have to do is get your money back!

Uncover one hint at a time until you're no longer stuck:

Spoiler
First of all, follow the gnome!
[close]

Spoiler
If you kept following him, he should have run into a hole in the back of the gnome village.
[close]

Spoiler
If you stand next to the hole, Jimmy will say something about not being able to fit in there.  Is there anyone who might be able to help you with that?
[close]

Spoiler
Who do you know who knows magic?
[close]

Spoiler
Go back and talk to the witch again.
[close]

There are more puzzles involved after that, of course, but I'll let you take it from there.  You can post again if you get stuck again.
Thanks, Alun, I managed to work that bit out before you posted and I bought

Not sure if this is really worth hiding, since I'm not revealing any puzzle solutions and I don't think I'm giving away much not already given away by your question, but I'll hide it anyway just in case:

Spoiler
That's... bizarre.  It's the one in the house, of course, not on the beach, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to put the things in it.  As far as I know, if you've talked to the professor you should be able to put the items in the bucket.

Wait -- the professor says "not now"?  That reminds me of a bug I ran into... did you talk to the professor in his house, or did you try talking to him on the road before he got there?  At first when I played, I tried talking to him on the road before he got to his house, and then he stopped and wouldn't say anything useful; I figured this seemed like a bug, so I restored a saved game from before I talked to the professor on the beach.  (I'd forgotten about this bug till this just now reminded me, or I would have mentioned it to the game's creator.)  If you talked to the professor too early and he's not in his house, then I'm afraid you'll probably have to restore a saved game, and this time, after the professor leaves the beach, don't talk to him again until he's entered his house.  (Unfortunately, that may mean you'll have to gather the items over again, if you got them after talking to the professor... but I guess that's life.)

On the other hand, if he is already in his house, and still won't talk to you... well, then I don't know what to tell you, except that maybe a similar bug occurred, and you may want to try restoring the game to before you first talked to him anyway.  In the house, he should talk to you and tell you about his attempts to duplicate the magic paint.  If he's not talking to you about that... something's wrong.

Actually, now that you've reminded me of the bug, I think I'll post in the game's thread to mention it to the game's creator.

A short adventure game by James Riley

A short adventure game developed for me to get to grips with the AGS system, which I hope will still provide some entertainment, some head scratching and some interest towards future adventures...

The game follows Roman, a hacker trying to gain some information regarding the whereabouts of his former partner, Laura Gibson. The only lead he has is an old company, Solomon Associates, which he's conned his way in to try and access their systems...

Some short post-mortem comments:

I'm fairly happy with this as my first AGS release but I know there is a lot to be improved, mainly due to inexperience at writing in general and using scripting. That said, I feel that I nailed quite a few different puzzle interactions and tried to make it slightly different with the inventory examination and computer interfaces. The final dialogue is a bit bolted on, partly because in designing the game, the room and puzzles came first and then I just started writing in whatever came in to my head that would make it in some way cohesive. Another part is that I haven't written much before, and it took a lot more effort than I bargained for. Hopefully that won't put too many people off, and my next project, which I'm about to post some info on soon, should be a major step forward and a completely different experience...

But we'll see... for now, enjoy!

Is there more than one ending? ::)
