Reminder that there are HINTS for every step in the game that you can turn ON under options for help if needed.

Congrats from another Boulderdash addicted player Elentgirl.
Tricky and nicely done to make you have to THINK and pre-setup some areas or you will get stuck.

Just to let you know there are some issues I have found in the programming for Level-3;

Level-3 has some issues with the MATRIX or way you store the available positioning and locations of objects i'm sorry to say
1. The boulders on the RIGHT HAND TOP side will disappear once they fall (although you still can't walk through them) and at times I have had them re-appear?
2. Other boulders are invisible (but you can roll boulders over the top of them and CANNOT walk through the space) so they are still 'there' (however this seems to be AFTER the above rocks have started a mismatch of positioning) 
3. Other boulders 'disappear' (they vanish and you CAN walk through their prior space) and have RE-APPEARED (however this also seems to be AFTER the above rocks have started a mismatch of positioning) 

Also, there does not seem to be a way to FINISH Level-3;
- On Level-3 dropping the BOMB by sliding it one place to the RIGHT to drop it through the gateway, can only hit the 'EDGE' of the closed cavern a the bottom (ensuing no boulders are above it of course) but the corner does NOT blow up or make a hole.... so there seems to be no way to proceed and open that cavern and get the gems and to the exit

Well done!!! You must feel really proud. Animations look fantastic. Can't wait to play. Hope you reap rewards for your time too!!!

Can't wait... This was my absolute favorite Adventure Game.... re-doing the puzzles will definitely ensure I go back through the whole game!

Great to see this happening...

My 2c.... some of the 'modules' could/should be created/grouped/indexed and made available. In UNITY adn other products I get a few FREE games/programs and MODULES I can cut-paste.
Eg: I could create a HINTS framework (Timer that counts down and pops up a screen with the next hint based on hints no longer needed/past) that people could download, look at the code and re-use entirely for their own purposes in their own games...

Hi Splat,

Note that you should also be able to see HELP - every time you 'Look' at either of the ropes (several times)... there are additional more and more helpful messages revealed (about 5 different layers of hints) change and give you more and more help - and are meant to lead you to the solution...

The detailed instructions are as follows;

You may have noticed that the Ropes move a little more than one-full-cycle between numbers... that is the main thing to notice to solve this puzzle

Anyway, just in case you are stuck getting the flag on or something;
1. Click the RIGHT Flag to lower the rope and see the Flag Connector
2. Use your FLAG From Inventory on the RIGHT Rope connector to connect the Flag to the RIGHT rope
3. Click the RIGHT Rope again, to Raise the flag up and out of the hole

4. If HINTS are OFF then Press the 'R' Lever (To Reset the flag rope positions - you will see Position '1' on the LEFT Rope jump up a little )

Then you need to do these following steps to align the line with 5 and 2 (we work with 6 and 1)...
So, just RESET the ropes at any time... (Press the R Lever), then;

5. Click the LEFT Rope 5 times. You will then see the Left-Rope's '6' marker on the screen (a lot LOWER than you need) and the 1 marker on the RIGHT Rope
6. Click the LEFT Rope 11 more times until the Left-Rope's '6' marker exactly aligns on the Red Line (The 1 marker on the RIGHT Rope will be a little HIGH)
7. Click the RIGHT Rope once to Align the 5 on the left rope and the 2 on the right rope (Since the RIGHT rope will move a little more than a Full Number/Cycle)

I have added extra help in the game now, to ensure people an keep looking even more and get more help since this puzzle is obviously harder than I thought people playing would be able to do.

Hi Splat,

Yes, the alignment is ALWAYS required ...and both red number across lines must be perfectly lined up to the red line...

What you may not have noticed is that the LEFT rope slips when it it pulled down and it is at its bottom.... !!! you will see it goes up more than it went down.... pulling on it about 11 times therefore gets it set right at the red line and then pulling the right one will line up the 2 and 5.
That is in KIDS Mode...

In Adult mode (hints off) the START position of the rope is IN-BETWEEN slip positions so the RESET button MUST be used (anytime) to reset it to the same start position as kids mode > then of course the above slipping etc applies to solve this puzzle...

These are late additions to make the game a little more challenging. There are a couple of puzzles near the end with more parent-mode difficulty level.

The left arrow to 2 etc. are hints for a later puzzle, but my daughter and I first suspected that they were hints for the dragon gate, just like you.

Yes the Old Man actually TELLS you the name of the 'V.Illan' that locked up the Dragon, before she burnt him for taking her babies... hence the LOCK CODE is the year he set that lock (locked her up) - the year of his death! (which is on his tombstone!) :-)

You are close.

The two numbers must be aligned - in the same height. You probably have one high up and the other further down on the screen. There is a way to manipulate this so that the numbers are closer or further apart. This is probably the most difficult puzzle in the game, but if I remember correctly, there are more in-game hints if you're stuck.

It is an adventure game so I feel like it definitely needs a little bit of searching around, using some things together and thinking a little here and there, especially for the flag etc...

The NOTE on the wall behind the tapestry (we use as a FLAG) has a Flag Icon on it! and the hint helps you more. Where you need to connect this flag and raise it has the exact SAME numbers and Flag Icon for you to see, so I definitely don't want to make that even easier... I think it may end up being a very easy game of easy tasks and not an Adventure at all if this is taken too far!! :-)

FYI: If the flag is NOT aligned and you look up the top from across the river from the castle then you'll see the flag is NOT blowing in the wind properly as a result, and is at 'half mast' - since it is not 'aligned' to the right level yet for the wind to catch it. Once it is aligned you'll see it flapping in the wind nicely.... (alerting the guards)

Also, if hints are ON for this part (kids mode), then the 'Reset' lever does NOT need to be used' however if hints are off (ADULT / harder) then the reset lever MUST be used or the flag can never align (it can be used any time once the flag is connected and raised)

Yes I use Antivirus - Avast Free Antivirus - Ver 20.7.2425 - September 1, 2020.
This update was WAY before I compiled a ton of versions over and over in readiness for release so I know it's not a recent version/update change.
I checked anyway and had also EXCLUDED the entire AGS and Game Directories back in March 2020 since it would always scan on re-build.
- I re-checked and all Sound, Game and build directories are absolutely included
On checking the VIRUS CHEST has nothing related to AGS residing within it
'Silent Mode' was on so tried with that OFF but no change to the error(s)either

I remember I had made a recent change rior to release - to NORMALISE all Audio across the game - including this ROOM (music) sounds.
Any sound files that were WAV I set on MP3 across the board so I had
- loaded the WAV, Set the sound / normalised audio levels in Audacity, Exported as MP3 and then COMMENTED out the usage spots in AGS, deleted the original (WAV) Sound from AGS, Imported the MP3 replacement (SAME NAME) and then UNCOMMENTED the usage spots.... which seemed to work well.

I think this issue is caused by INITIALLY setting a Sound file for one format (Eg: WAV for me), then Exporting the original as another format (eg: MP3 with updated levels), deleting/re-copying the MP3 (with the SAME NAME) file into AGS in the one/open session.... I have to get it working to be able to test this theory though and see if it can be repeated to create the lockout.

I was able to just now get rid of the issue....
I re-installed AGS 3.5.0.26. Opening my game in AGS and trying to re-compile brought up a 'new' issue from Avast Antivirus!! - Trying to access a file in the 'Protected Document area'...? This is was odd (but GOOD to have something new!) since I had EXCLUDED the highest level of AGS and Game files (as per description above) so I now assume this was a SOUND file located OUTSIDE of the bounds of my exclusions... but AVAST was NOT telling me of the issue (silent mode?) and therefore 'hobbling' AGS so AGS could not access the file (as it was stating)... even though I could SEE the file, MOVE, ADD and CHANGE it something was wrong permission wise in Antivirus....

So voila... we have the culprit.

Hmmm... I still can't find it yet. It may need the AGS heavy hitters to keep assisting.
I read up on the copying of the Sound files into AudioCache by AGS - for backup 'in case' the source(s) are changed or removed - then AGS can still compile/use these audio files etc, and that all makes sense....

There are weird issue(s) I am seeing on this though - since the problem changes a bit during the testing of various items and can be DIFFERENT for the same test - eg: if you try something and get an error and then RESTART AGS from scratch, open the game and re-try the same operation (example below).... the error may change. COuld be as simple as the 'random' reading of files in AudioCache and just hitting an issue with the first file but it does seem odd...

Fault finding of course takes a systematic approach and ONE change at a time for results to make sense.... nothing makes sense on this atm.
If I load AGS onto a new computer and then try it out entirely then maybe I can compare properly, since atm I cannot even re-compile the game at all.

I did get one of those 'wonderful' darn Windows-10 AUTO-Updates a few days ago so I wonder if it is a coincidence or (more likely) Windows update/s have stuffed this up.... (I had put it off the Windows Patch update for a while since these are terribly problematic atm - another whole story)


So - for an Error example atm: Access to the path 'AudioCache\au00003C.ogg' is denied.
If I go and check OFF the directory for READ only access and click OK in Windows then it 'propogates' (pretends to at least) those read only file attributes onto all files WITHIN the source Sound directory (where I load my sounds into and AGS gets them, and the same if I do this to the AudioCache directory....

I was able to get past that file error above (3C) ONCE.... then when I tried to DELETE a Audio file (so I could just reload with the same name) I got
- Error: Unable to delete the file 'C:\Users\admin\Documents\AGS GAME BACKUP\KingReturn\AudioCache\au000050.mp3'.
- Access to the path 'C:\Users\admin\Documents\AGS GAME BACKUP\KingReturn\AudioCache\au000050.mp3' is denied.

RENAMING the Audio file in AudioCache and then try to delete from AGS Audio (see the SAME filename used in the audio entry) get the following (weird) error;
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Version: AGS 3.5.0.23

However on CLOSING AGS and restart this error CHANGES when trying to delete the file! (so the checking is different...);
- Error: Unable to delete the file 'C:\Users\admin\Documents\AGS GAME BACKUP\KingReturn\AudioCache\au000050.mp3'.
- Access to the path 'C:\Users\admin\Documents\AGS GAME BACKUP\KingReturn\AudioCache\au000050.mp3' is denied.

Argh... anyway any help would be great.

Yes - File EXISTS (In the right directory for the loaded AGS Game)
Yes - File OPENS and can be played in Audacity (correct music plays flawlessly as well - backdrop music for a room)

Also, the following don't reveal the issue yet either;

  • Can BACKUP and MOVE replacement file into it's place (replace) and same error appears
  • File checking shows this file is SAME permissions as all other files in AudioCache
  • File is not READ-ONLY or any other way different?(Windows file permission/s)
  • File is not 'new' or a recent change in AGS in any way
  • In the end I Renamed AudioCache to 'OLD-AudioCache' and then copied the ENTIRE Directory and files from a full directory backup I had done just 6 days ago (but MANY compiles before this error showed up).... and..... SAME ERROR!
I'll keep looking into it tonight.
