Come on.

Obviously his daughter didn't write that speech. It's sad that she's lost her dad, without a doubt, but her speech was so obviously prepared as part of the whole big machine of commercialism.

CafePress used to have a really big issue with quality, but they have improved a lot over the last few years. They have a number of different printing methods now as well, so your shirts aren't going to look like cheap iron ons!

Cafepress base prices are crazy high, but just think of it like this: people are paying for your -unique design- that they can't get elsewhere. You've got to think of the value in terms of that, otherwise you won't succeed.

A few months ago I upped the price on my CafePress stores from $2 per item to $4-8 per item, average of $6 markup. Oddly enough, I'm selling more items than before, and at more than double the price.

So, if people are willing to pay... why not!

I wouldn't say this host is expensive. This is really cheap (unless quality isn't an issue). I would say the 8gig is per month. And the host is definately overselling.

Well, it's not a an extremely outrageously over-the-top plan, so it seems definately legit. Professional page. A Whois search doesn't reveal any details like when the domain was registered, so we can't figure out how long they have been around for.

A search for 'jumba' at webhostingtalk.com only comes up with one thread, with a post from a user from this month saying they like them as a host.

I found this thread at Whirlpool: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/490721.html and this thread: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=582113 and this one: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=579645 and quite a few other threads if you look through the hosting forum at Whirlpool.

I would say that they are a fairly newish company, but from the looks of it definately not a scam or anything like that. Their forums (http://forums.jumba.com.au) are also quite active, which suggests they have at least a sizable amount of customers.

Oh, and I think the US P2 package would be about $39 AU actually.

And it'd be pretty groovy to have him dancing like that everywhere he went.  :=

Well hey, now! I didn't mean to entirely discourage you! It's still a possibility, especially if you want to learn some new computer related tricks!  :D It'd suck if you had it all on one server, and got your account cancelled, and then had to upload it all somewhere else over again.

I guess that'd be the benefit of having it on a PC right with you, you could just copy things onto there instead of uploading it over the net.

What about torrents? If you made torrents of the large files, it could be a lot easier and cheaper, and you'd be serving those from a computer of your own (or someone elses), don't have to worry about it using lots of bandwidth and so on.

The chances of getting into trouble for hosting that sort of thing are slim, to none. It's not as if it would be distributed around, and openly advertised for all to see. If you were with a hosting provider, if the copyright holder found out (or someone else reported you) they'd either contact you with a cease and desist (remove the downloads) or contact the host, who would then either tell you to remove the items, or terminate your account.

If you are hosting it on your own server with your own conneciton(as opposed to shared hosting, leasing a server, or co-locating), you'd need to take into account: the computer needs to be connected to a decently fast connection if people don't want to be waiting around for days for things to download... and, if it's on your own server connected to the internet it means the ihome nternet connection is basically being used to serve the data.

So, back to piracy issues: in this case, if the Internet Service Provider has an issue with you hosting this stuff on their internet connection, they'll terminate the account. And, chances are if it's a standard residential internet account... then they aren't going to take too kindly to it serving massive amounts of data.

Really, rahter than having to learn how to manage your own server and stuff, I think it'd be easier to just find a decent host and set up there and hope that nobody finds out...  :D

I think this is really a good idea. Of course, you would need to work hard for it to succeed out of the AGS community and probably need to work hard for it to succeed in just the AGS community as well.

I fully support and endorse this idea.

WordPress seems to be the most popular these days. I use it myself and it -is- ultra-customisable, but it's a bitch to do much customisation with unless you're a mega CSS pro.

As far as I know a 'true vegetarian' (who does not eat any animal products, including cheese, milk, eggs, meat (of course)), has to find alternative ways to keep their protein high, meaning they must carry out a very specific diet in order to stay healthy, if not also some supplements (like vitamins and stuff). This to me does not looks natural, where to just not wear fur, is as natural as it goes (plus the all synthetic stuff that everybody uses,. but still our wardrobes are full of animal byproducts)

It is not difficult for one to find adequate, or more than adequate, non-animal sources of protein, not to mention all other essential vitamins and minerals. There is not a food in existence that contains no protein whatsoever.

It can seem intimidating at first, but I find that largely comes from ignorance of foods and nutritional values of food. I didn't know a thing about food before I became vegan, but now I know which foods have which nutrients, and how much of them I have. When speaking of health, it makes sense to me that all people, regardless of diet, should know what nutrients their body needs, and where to get these nutrients from.

If one knows this sort of information, then it is easy to live healthily on any diet. My diet takes no careful planning, no special thinking, no expert workarounds, I just eat normal foods... except for meat, dairy, etc.

They were raised for that purpose.

This question has always seemed to me to be a fancy version of "But we want to do these things, so what is wrong with that?" The idea that an act, by virtue of an intention of ours, can be exonerated morally is totally illogical.

But worse than that, however, is the fact that such a belief is a dangerous position to take because it can enable one to justify some practices that are universally condemned. To see how this is so, consider the following restatement of the basis of the question:
"Suffering can be excused so long as we breed them for the purpose." Now, cannot an analogous argument be used to defend a group of slave holders who breed and enslave humans and justify it by saying "but they're bred to be our workers"? Could not the Nazis defend their murder of the Jews by saying "but we rounded them up to be killed"?

Also, I was reading in this week's New Scientist that giving babies soya milk formula...

Giving them an orange juice formula is probably not so good, either. Point is, it's not about whether it's breast milk, dairy milk, or soy milk, it's about what a newborn baby needs for good health and what are good sources for that.

Not breastfeeding is entirely absurd, imho.

I'm a vegan and I have to say that I have met few vegans who actually like PETA as an organisation; I certainly don't think they're much good for anything other than giving us a bed rep.

Hehe, I was going to suggest Conflict: Middle East. I can't believe somebody else has actually played that game.

I played a game called Superpowers 2 a few months ago, and that had awesome potential but it turns out you can't really do much in it. Otherwise I would recommend that.

Because so many different people have so many different resolutions, it's always best to design (I forget what the actual name is) by not using fixed widths, but on percentages. Sites like this look really bad if someone is using a huge resolution, generally, but it's only a very small percentage that actually does.

I find that it really isn't very hard to design a site that can look fine in both 1024 & 800, though it's difficult to design for 640.

That said, I'd never do a design that needed horizontal scrolling in 800*600. Alienate far too many visitors that way.

Also, there's nothing I hate more than not having my browser window fulling maximised.  >:(

I think this is a good idea, actualy. If it were done well. Maybe not include things based on how 'impressive' they are; but by useful including plugins that are relatively bug free and include suitable instructions, guis that are scripted well, and so on. I guess I'm thinking of including things that are generally of a 'good quality'.

I think all this sort of stuff needs to be available to users first downloading the program. "Download AGS... AND, hey, why not download the ags resource pack?" Because as it is, there are random templates and things all over the place... sometimes dead links, sometimes not, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't...

Then, half this stuff you only find if you're specifically looking for it anyway...

Well, its down to AGS that it can't support highers resolutions. I was initially doing it at 640x480 but realised that AGS just can't handle pixel precision at that resolution. Maybe I can make a 640x480 version that just allows imported sprites and doesn't have the Paint functionality

I think a 640*480 version would be extremely helpful. I don't plan on doing any of my painting in their anyway, I'm no pixel artist.  :'(

Awesome little program you've got here, though.

Olympus camera's are great. Like LGM said, they generally have really good lenses as well. I swear by my Olympus. Some of the cheaper models aren't so good, but you get that with all brands I suppose.
