This turned out so horrible I really don't wanna show it, but here goes.

EDIT:

Did another one. Still very sketchy and unfinished at places but it'll do for now.

The guy in the back looks a bit out of place I guess but I couldn't figure out what else to put in that space.

First time painting with double wide pixels. Rushed it a lot in the end. Especially the body.

Not very exciting or original, I know.

EDIT:

1.  Must use double-wide pixels to color.  This outline is for Commodore 64 resolutions.
What would be the best way to do this? I figured if I use a 1x2 brush I might overlap by accident, so should I resize the image (half the width) pixel it, then resize it (widen it back to normal size)?

You could also try out Timanthes.

I THINK that's more than 30 colours.

It's exactly 30 colors.

Here's my entry. My initial plan was to create a pixel art piece. I realized my scanner was broken so I photographed the sketch I did with my mobile. When I was tinkering with the brightness/contrast I got some interesting results, so I decided to go with that version instead. So this is actually my quick 5-minute-sketch photographed with my camera phone.

EDIT: It has and has always had 30 colors. Thank you.

I guess I will be disqualified for using an old sprite but this one just fits so perfectly here, I had to post it.

Gary Coleman in diguise.

I couldn't come up with any good ideas so I did this. Not an original character and a photograph was used for reference. Did it just for fun. Might change my entry if I come up with a good idea. :)

70x90 pixels, 8 colors

Wow, so many good entries! It was really hard to decide a winner. Since I'm in a bit of a hurry I'll just declare the winning song:

The Lobotomi Theme Song by He-Man

While lobotomy may not be the most joyful thing in the world this song is just so cheerful and catchy.

Good job everyone!

Since I was 20 minutes late with my entry for the caveman sprite jam I'll reuse it here then.

Behold. The vampire caveman.

EDIT: Update your caches!

Dammit, the competition had not ended when I started working on mine. Oh well, here it is anyway:

40x50, 6 colors

Thanks for the input.  I like the paintover, in fact I think I'll use it if you don't mind.  I'm reworking the front view so it has more character and isn't symetrical.

Nice to hear you liked it. Go ahead and use it if you want. I don't mind at all. Good luck again!

So, after much delay. Here it is. The Tune Contest with the most unimaginary theme yet...

Happiness.

The rules are simple:
The tune that makes me the most happy will win.
And just to create a less abstract rule:
It must be no longer than 90 seconds.

Go crazy!

The contest ends on Sunday June 25th

Really nice character. It reminds me a bit of Mr. Incredilbe from The Incredibles. Here are some ideas/suggestions for you:

I mainly worked on the head as you can see, but also modified the colors a bit making them a little less saturated. For some reason you had made his left half one pixel wider than the right which looked a bit odd. I corrected that. I would also recommend you to make his stance a little less symmetrical.

Good luck with your game!

Oops, I had forgotten about this. Sorry about that. I'm glad you liked my entry however. :) I'll try to come up with an idea for a new contest today. Again, sorry for the delay.

My entry:

Microgroggery with Guybrush Threepwood

I wanted to record the rhythm guitar live and play the melody on electric guitar, but due to technical difficulties and too little time I had to go with this (horrible) 100% sampled version instead.

Archeology with Dr Jones sounded like fun :D

Great little piece! But this wasn't made just for this competition though, was it? It was on your site before this contest started...

To make this post less useless, save this spot for me - I might consider entering this one.

I just have to vote loominous in all four categories. Make a game already dude! :)

So. For the record:

Best idea: loominous
Best functionality: loominous
Best design: loominous
Best technique: loominous

Oh, I had almost forgotten that I started doing a background for this BB. It's still not finished - I would like to add some more detail to it - but I won't have time to work more on it, so here it is:

EDIT: I guess it's too late for it to be included in the compo, but I made some changes to my bg. For the record, I'll just post this scaled down version of it:

Here is my half-serious entry... Weresaddam. Didn't spend more than about 10-15 minutes on this one as I was feeling a bit uninspired. Wheter this is a sprite or not could be discussed, but let's not get into that. ;)

Oh, and it seems like my orc decided to go offline (it's back now) just in time for the judging of the last sprite jam. Krysis, did you get the chance to see it?

That's an awesome sprite, buloght! I'm actually working on a quite similar but much less amazing sprite myself. It won't stand a chance against yours but I guess I'll finish it anyways.

I'll just reserve this spot for mine then.

EDIT: So, I finally had time to finish this one. I'm still not 100% satisfied with it, but I never am so here it is. It's actually my first ever attempt ever at drawing something in this style and my first ever attempt to paint muscles really. But I think it came out quite OK. The anatomy is probably off since I didn't use any reference but who cares? :)

100x125 pixels, 15 colors all in all.
