General Discussion / Re: Inventory collection?

You may get further inspiration when thinking about different themes/settings (locations, ages) in adventure games: things needed in a sci-fi game (different keycards, radio devices, sci-fi tools, laser weapons, parts of all of that to be combined in the game, a pet alien :=), a medieval/fantasy game (sword, pitchfork, goblet, gems, magical rings, ...), a game with pirates/islands, a steampunk world, in the desert, in a hospital, in an office, in the average household, in Stone Age...

Great animations! :)

And I'm sure we can use the first one too if we flip it or position the guard on the right spot.

What really pops out to me are the unconnected leaves on the big tree. It's also pretty easy to spot the repetition of the brush there, so maybe you can use some more different or randomized brushes and make the leaves a bit more dense there.

Apart from that and the things already mentioned, wow, great, I like this style!

...but it seemed that that was an appropriate response to the 'command' that was given.
And a good opprtunity to get a break? :P

In retrospect, it's also nice to see how the player character changed from a rather serious depiction to a comic character over time in response to our sometimes nonsensical input. :)

Meh, no "you are here!" :(

I was going to suggest breaking the glass and taking the maps with you for the next action, but now I realize that we, as players, will always be able to look at this post if we need to find a way ;D

Well,
> GO NORTH
then.

> Travel back to the machine (quick, before there's too much smoke) and hit "Emergency Stop"!

Whatever happend was probably bad, but a machine working the wrong way (and smoking, perhaps exploding) is probably worse than a machine not working at all.

Quote from: Atelier on Mon 15/08/2011 14:24:49I have no problem with gamer chicks. Dare I say it's a turn on? I mean, they know how to handle a joystick.

Why does it seem that, if you're female and a hard-core gamer, you have to make a statement about it?

Simple: they want to turn you on! :P

But well, as with most things, you hear only the voices of people raising their voice, so when it seems to you like all girl gamers make a big thing out of it, there are probably actually many more that don't care about it and integrate with everybody else, how should they be noticed as non-militant girl gamers?

Ouch, this will burn! Cover your hands with the pieces of cloth you have in your pockets before doing that!

So I'd like to express my personal impressions of some of submitted entries so their creators may get their bonus moment of glee even if the golden trophy doesn't end up in their hands.
Good idea, I voted and felt that there were too few categories to give every good game here its deserved vote, they're pretty much all somewhere on a scale from "really nice" to "awesome", so no participant should feel like he's losing when he's not winning.

Best game that doesn't work
Entrapped
Well, at the time of writing this is the only one game from the entire collection that doesn't work. So obviously it wins in that category be default. If later some other games will stop working too, I will of course reconsider my vote on this.
Worked for me! It took some time and the solution is

quite a pixel hunt, but amazingly, I didn't find it annoying like I do normally with pixel hunts, and found the needed things - except one - relatively fast because of the choosen graphics style.

I liked the vast amount of interactable clutter and inventory items, so I'd rather like to vote for it in the category
Best use of red herrings :)

Best intense artsy platformer
Requiem
[...] and even finishable.
This is finishable? Aw, I'm the worst platform gamer ever :( I kept dying pretty soon and often, even in the OROCheese game I got further. But I really liked the atmosphere, graphics/music/sound effects really fit together.

Best stylish moody immersive drama
The Devil Got My Woman
It was incredibly plesant to stumble upon something like that in the collection. Something dialogue-based, story-centered, feelings-centered, characters-centered, situation-based, you get the idea. The way story went was barely suprising (except maybe the very ending that I can't claim I got 100% right) but at least it was very sincere and didn't fail in any major way and it was very captivating to explore the story's microworld while it lasted. So, er, yay!
Yes, definitely the most serious story-loaden entry in the collection, a bit irritating when you play the games all in a row and happen to come from e.g. ODR3 to this ;D
At first, I found the story a bit creepy, but not so much anymore as it evolved.
There were some bugs like a moving sitting player when it was supposed to walk and a character in the room when they stated in the dialog "Is he still here?" - "No, he's gone now!" - "Let me tell you something about him..." which killed the sincere mood a bit, but won't be hard to fix before it's officially (under the author's name) released.

Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention: All the platformer/non-adventure games did a pretty good job in introducing controls and concepts at each stage/level, I liked that a lot though I'm generally not a big fan of platformers and such because I suck at it.

Really enjoyed playing through the collection, nice variation of different genres, concepts, stories and designs :)

   7) From their current positions, the soldiers must also shoot.  This would probably just require a second frame for each of them with a flashing gun-muzzle and the gun inclined slightly: played quickly this should give the desired effect.

I had a try on this one:

And here's a little action demo:

Not too good, but might suffice for an animation that's only used once (and hopefully doesn't look as stupid if they do not stand all in a row and fire at the exact same time). Feel free to change it!

Anyway, the main purpose of my post is to give the project another little push! :)

Ask him who he is, who Schofield is, who Schofield should bring, and what all this is about; if he's going to shoot you now for some reason, he can at least explain what he knows so we don't die clueless! :(

It was fun watching this yesterday/today!
So much fun I fell asleep halfway through it := Well, it was past 4 in the morning here and I hadn't had the chance to adjust my sleep patterns for this event...

Sadly, as far as I know, only the first half of this one could be recorded :'(

However, I don't consider a room with nothing to do a waste! specially in planets, I'd like to give alot of space to wander around.
Another thing you can do: The first time the player wanders about the planet, he has to walk through some empty rooms to show the emptiness and such, but after that, you give him "shortcut paths", in that you change directly between the important rooms with interaction (you can also exclude rooms where interaction has happened and there's nothing left to do) or give him a map GUI where the important rooms are accessible once they where discovered.
I think we all hate these moment where we realize we need that one thing from another room and have to go back through tennish other rooms, which isn't considered a puzzle, only a punishment.
