There is a way to click away dialogue: Use your right mouse button. (Or space or full stop on your keyboard, if you prefer that.)

You answered you own question. I use SLUDGE.

Hi, all!

Those of you that visit other adventure game forums may have noticed already, but I figured I'd let the rest of you know, too. My game is finally finished!

Frasse and the Peas of Kejick is a cute and humorous game. I've tried to be original, so it's not yet another Monkey Island clone (even though it certainly has its share of references to other games and movies). People have said that they liked it, and some even liked it a lot.Ã,  :D

I hope you'll enjoy it. Let me know what you think!

I'm sorry, but I still think General MIDI is one of the worst ideas anybody ever had in the history of the universe. ;)
Why? I find it inovative and a great idea!
General MIDI, and MIDI in general, is great, but should be avoided in games (unless coupled with soundfonts in something like DirectMusic, but then we're not really talking just MIDI anymore), since your carefully crafted music may end up sounding horrible on another computer.

I use Finale 2006. I also tried the Sibelius demo before getting it, since those two programs are generally considered equivalent. Sibelius is often quoted as the easier program to use, but I prefer the way Finale works.

Those two are professional programs, though, and not cheap. I wouldn't have bought it if I only was looking for a program to make game music, but I notate quite a bit of music so for me it was worth it.

Several people have now mailed me offering to help (thanks!), so I won't need any more now. If you are one of those people, you can expect an e-mail later tonight.

I haven't made any demo. When I reached the point where I had the first third of my game more or less finished, I instead recruited some beta testers. That's the only real point for a freeware game to have a demo, isn't it? To get feedback before the game is finished.

Two words: Improvise and sing.

Also, practising your guitar playing will help.

Hi!

My game Frasse and the Peas of Kejick is nearing completion, and I think I'll get it ready for the final (unless major changes will be made after the testing) round of testing some time next week. I have had some people looking at it during development, but now I'd like some fresh eyes.

I'm looking not as much for someone to find bugs (though that's of course also important) as for someone to comment on puzzles, music, graphics and so on.

If you're interested, mail me. Also tell me why you'd be a good tester (in case I get lucky and get many applicants).

Though you might find it sounding completely awful on someone else's computer, since there are no guarantees on how it'll sound.

Back when commercial games used MIDI, the composers often created several renditions, for different sound cards. And now there's much more variation on the hardware! After hearing how an old version of my action game sounded on my brother's computer, I'll never use MIDI directly in a game again. (On the other hand, MIDI with DLS, something like Interactive XMF would be interesting. As long as it sounds more or less the same everywhere.)

I start out with Finale, beacuse I find it easier to work with a notation program, but then I use ModPlug Tracker and Mo3 Encoder to get the file size down. Even though I find trackers unwieldly to work with, I am happy with my music-making process. My game currently features half an hour of music in less than 1.5 MB! That's good beacuse the total size is over 33MB anyway.

I'm impressed with Synful, though.

Steve: I don't want to get into details, but there was more going on than what's in that thread (there are PMs and stuff, too). Closing the way that was discussed in that thread would have looked differently (and felt *very* differently).

DragonRose: Feel free.

Just a quick note to say that I won't be doing anything with the GTDs. From this moment, I no longer run The Crow's Nest.

Nobody has mentioned Adventure Developers or The Crow's Nest yet  :o, so I'll do so. Be sure to get your game included in those game databases, since that's where where many potential players will look for games.

TCN now also has a news feed (RSS/XML) for its news section, so posting a piece of news there when releasing a game is a good idea that just got even better.

Well, you all know why I'm writing this post and where you should go and read stuff...

The announcement will be made when the web page for it is done. When that is depends on a couple of things and may be as early as tomorrow. Should be within a couple of days, anyway.

Right now, I'm off to work on my own game. I've had a lot of motivation lately, so I want to get as much done as possible.

 :-X Oops. Will fix.

Guess what? I've posted some results!
