Too bad, Kadji-san! That teaser really tickled my fancy  :=

Anybody else silently working on a mags game?

Why does it matter where I host my entry?

Critics' Lounge / Re: GUI - First Ever
Thu 17/04/2008 23:16:57
My first impression is that it looks very nice and clear.

I wouldn't use the colour black for the items though; but some sort of light brown / yellowish maybe.

The save and load are very clever (although unclear to people who never played adventure games) but I'm having a hard time decrypting the symbols underneath it.
Maybe it would be better to have one button which leads to a GUI with save, load, quit and info on it.

Since the word balloon is shouting abuse, it would be funny if the hand was giving you the finger, but then again, some people might take offence, so it's probably not a good idea.

In the living room. Look very closely. (this was my favourite puzzle to solve)

An old joke, but still worth a chuckle:

General Discussion / Re: I started a diet!
Thu 17/04/2008 00:48:31
I'm not gonna tell you how much I weigh or you might feel obliged to force me to diet with Nikolas ;)   (or should that be :()

Good luck, hope you can keep it up. Just remember that's it's not the diet which keeps the pounds away, it's your eating pattern.
Just say no to all those curries!

Small update: The writing competition will start when the grandiose writing competition is finished.

Hey I've never gotten a trophy for anything, I've had stuff published(unpaid), I suck at sports, science, maths, coding and drawing so I guess YES but seriously for the comp it doesn't matter!

Only teasing :P  I'll see what I can do.

Dragon's Lair is certainly possible.

It does require of lot of experience scripting.

Quote from: Andail on Tue 15/04/2008 11:24:08I chose to write a rather absurd ending, as there were too many loose ends to tie with so few words...

I can't blame you  ;D

I'm most excited about how the other stories turned out.
#330
Or the fact that we can turn simple, daily tasks (like taking a key and opening a door) into mind-blowing events of epic proportions.

I had this bookmarked for a week, but finally came round to read it ::)

The mood is very good, the words are chosen well. It looks the beginning of an epic ;)

Just one negative thing: "The second floor down was unremarkable."
This line almost made me not want to read on: He goes down in an unknown temple like nothing he's ever seen before, which "gave off a feeling of vague unease" and he says its unremarkable?

Other than that, a very enjoyable story.

Congratulations buddy, well deserved!

good entries, everyone.

Quote from: rock_chick on Mon 14/04/2008 14:38:42Will the winner of the comp get to choose the next subject and will there be any trophies involved, I ask that because so many of the others have them and it could just be one that never changes, also will there will runners up?
My idea is to have first, second and third places. Winner chooses next topic.
You really want a trophy to put in your signature?

Quote from: Jack Sheehan on Mon 14/04/2008 14:48:47I pm'ed Andail about this and he basically said yes, but wait til after the end of the group writing compo, so have patience people.

If you're referring to the writing competition, there might be a slight conflict, since I pm'ed Gilbot yesterday and he might not have known about this.

Gilbot: you forgot you acid tablet before looking at Dualnames work!
The purpose of this thread is to give contructive criticism, not to unconditionally praise everything.

That's a good design for the plotter. I always imagined the babel fish dispenser to look more like a cola dispenser (with just only one button), but that's up to you of course.

The only thing that bothers me is that the floor has a round shape while the plotter has that straight look.
I'm also not sure what the white shape is.

At first I thought it was too dark, but it does fit the depressing atmosphere of a Vogon freighter.

Try this:

function hhotspot_useinv()
{
if (player.ActiveInventory==iCard) player.changeroom(x);
}

where iCard is the script name of the inventory item you want the player to use.

What, no black top hat!?

He looks more loke like a gerbil btw, but great entry none the less!

Edited by mod: No need to quote whole post with image, especially when it's just the last post above.

Quote from: Rui 'Trovatore' Pires on Sun 13/04/2008 13:33:27I'm basically tired of people talking about writing comps over and over again. There's obviously interest, someone PM a mod already!

Since I'd also like more writing comps, I PM'd a mod and got the green light.

The basic idea will be this:
A subject will be given, write a story of around 200-350 words about this subject.
The competition will last two weeks: 12 days to enter, 2 days to vote.

All you fledgling writers keep an eye on the competition thread, I'll post the first FORTNIGHTLY WRITING COMPETITION in a few days.

Quote from: Klyptomaniac on Mon 14/04/2008 04:36:48no knowledge to finish but just enough patience to start.

That goes right into the first place of my favourite AGS forum quotes.

EDIT: Because it applies to every newbie and if you have enough patience you'll gain knowledge. Just in case you were thinking I'm making fun of you, I'm not.

Quote from: Klyptomaniac on Mon 14/04/2008 04:36:48I plan on writing, drawing, and animating for a living, all at once or seperate works, it doesn't matter, and I believe that making video games in general uses all three, so this will be a great start.

Sounds like adventure games are just for you! Welcome aboard!

A healthy warning about jumping on the bed...

Try "music0.ogg", "music0.mp3" or "music0.wav" (depending on your format of choice)

Or better yet, try music1.* since music0 is reserved for intro music - it will play right at the start of your game.
