Props to Ultra Magus who has now written all three times, and averaged about 5 hours for all three times!  Sorry that you now have to wait a while to see the results!

I was lucky in that I got sent two of the three stories in the evening and had the time to just write them and send them straight back.
The other was sent in the afternoon, so it only had to wait a few hours.

Speaking of waiting, does anyone have a copy of the previous chain stories that I can read while I wait for these ones to finish?
I found their original threads, but none of the links work.

if you don't make peace with God you can't go to heaven, Jesus Christ was the son of God, Jesus was sent to the world by God, making peace with Jesus is like making peace with God

But Tommy doesn't know what day it is.
He doesn't know who Jesus was, or what praying is.
How can he be saved from the eternal grave?

Yeah, I see where you're coming from with that but the rules were/are honestly for Man's own good rather than some kind of attempt at extortion or something. Man has nothing that God needs.

Except for the ego stroking that comes with unquestioning loyal devotion, of course ("for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God”).

rules for their own good (...or you will surely die)

I was staying out of this, but that sounds suspiciously like a protection racket to me.
"These rules are for your own good, because if you follow them I won't kill you."

What the hell. I could do with the practice.

"Who would make a good Cobra Commander?"
"How about that kid from Third Rock?"
"Genius!"

What's not to understand?

Spoiler
I haven't seen it.

Quote from: nobodyYou can override it with SetGameOption(OPT_PORTRAITPOSITION, x).

Thanks.
It would have taken me ages to figure that out on my own. ::)

I dunno if there's a better way, but you could always have the images on a separate GUI.
What I mean is, instead of having one dialogue with five options, have five different dialogues each triggered by the other GUI, and just keep swapping between the two.
You'll also need a bunch of custom variables to keep track of what has and hasn't been said, though.

That was pretty good.

There were a couple of technical issues...
Spoiler
*Click detection was a bit squiffy, and the lack of feedback for most things meant that I never knew if something was not clickable or if I just missed the mark. A simple status line would help with this a lot.
*The cursor kept going back to the basic pointer, which would sometimes work, but just as often not. And after selecting an item from the inventory, it was quite annoying that I then had to cycle through the cursors to use it.

And I found a couple of bugs...
Spoiler
*When walking down the stairs on the right-side of the screen I hit the inside-edge and got stuck. Couldn't move at all, had to restart the game.
*At the end, in the kitchen after using the knife on the wood, I clicked on the wrong door. The text box popped up, and the game froze completely. I had to ctrl+alt+del it.

But overall a good, solid game. Well written and quite enjoyable. Well done, and good luck on the sequel.

The thread that veryweirdguy linked says that #24 was in July '07.

thank you for article link, extremely helpful.

Seriously? It's just a guy ranting. :)
I really only posted it in reply to some of the arguments on the previous page.
But if you actually found it helpful, then you're welcome, and I'm glad I could help.

If you're interested (and if I'm not too late) here's another one.
It's not directly about Adventure games, more about how PC games are losing out to consoles in general, but seeing as the PC is the spiritual home of point-n-click (there have been console ports of some games, but they rarely were as well received as their PC counterparts), you could see it as having a knock-on or, if you prefer, trickle-down effect.

The NHS works well enough for physical ailments, but it's terrible for mental health.
Because it's obviously tough to know what's going on inside someone else's head, the current guidelines for doctors say that everyone should basically be assumed to be faking, and if they can manage to sit through a 40-minute psych evaluation, well, that's basically the same thing as taking on a full-time job, right?

Further reading: opinions from an ex-NHS psychologist and a bunch of other people.

Sorry to bring this up again, but something weird has started happening with one of my characters' portrait views.

This is obviously what it's supposed to do...

...and it works for all but the one character.

As far as I can see, the settings are the same.
Does anyone know why this is happening, and maybe how to fix it?

It's a toaster!
One that is little, and also brave.

And poorly drawn.

Prologue looks really nice. Not just in terms of the graphics, but with the mood and pacing too.
If you manage to port those elements over to the actual game, this should end up as something great.

Great graphics as always, and a nice little story too.
It's just a shame there weren't more... not necessarily puzzles, but puzzle elements.
