This game is going to get the love and attention my previous games didn't. The last game taught me 2 things. Work on the game every day, even if it's just a single piece of dialog. And never ever import graphics into AGS directly from Spriter or Inkscape.
I have enough of an idea where to take the game that I can do some coding today and at least start work on designing the player character.
Unless something changes, the game will be called Vacant Bodies.

The Outer Zone - First time ever? Good luck. Hopefully you have some experience with other engines or at least have discovered tutorial videos.

I haven't actually played Phantasmagoria, but I own it on Steam. Unfortunately it's for Windows only, so I'd have to wait to actually download it. But I did find the manual. From the description, you should be able to just have a global string variable and you just need to create part of the GUI to let you set the variable as the password. Then simply have the variable required in the future if you want to change the censor.
If you have no idea how to even start, then you should search Youtube for How to use AGS Part 38. Watch that video and 39.

Edit: You'll also need to create a 2nd global variable. If you choose int, then have it set to like 1 once the password is created. If you choose bool, set it to true at this point. And then you use this variable to determine if the player has already set a password.
And you'd need a second gui at this point which compares what's typed in to the already set password.

Hopefully this makes sense. If not, I could just make a quick game.

Well, I've heard of about half of those movies. And seen none. But one of them reminds me that I think I have a copy of Hobo With a Shotgun lying around somewhere.

And Chucky. :-D
Ah. You could probably fill in half the categories using a Child's Play movie.

Curses/witchcraft: Child's Play
Comedy/parody: Seed of Chucky
Psychological horror: Curse of Chucky
Miscellaneous horror: Child's Play 3

And any of them could maybe be considered slasher and/or possession. If possessing a toy counts...

Pst. You forgot the "e" from one. Unless you meant "On for each category below."

And it was harder to fill the form out than I expected. I couldn't think of any Psychological Horror I've seen to recommend. So I just had to go with something I haven't seen yet. I had also forgotten that the majority of the horror movies I own are from the 80s and 90s.
#1207
Yay, the form stage.

Danvzare - So, pretty much just Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, and Leatherface for you?

The game itself going to be the oppressor?
Careful it doesn't become an AI and take over the world...

Engine Development / Re: File access on Linux

I wonder how it would work using the Windows build via Wine. For whatever reason, most AGS games run better for me that way than the Linux builds.
And you shouldn't need a Linux box to test. You should be able to just use a live cd of Ubuntu or whichever flavor of Linux.

Oh. I should probably have said this yesterday, but was too tired. The inventory items don't actually do anything. I don't even remember if any of them other than the cell phone even have a look description.

Downloading the other games now to play later.

Yes, retro futuristic/zeerust could work. The Fallout games made good use of such. An Urban Fantasy spin could work. Or even somehow flat out doing fantasy. With enough thought, some form of cyberpunk/biopunk/whatever punk could work in any setting. Like, what if The Wizard of Oz was cyberpunk.
#1212
The Outer Zone - Yeah, there's lots of ways you can vary it. You could add biopunk elements like XiStenZ did. Or you could make things more along the lines of solarpunk. Or make something that mixes elements of Total Recall and Inception. There are so many possibilities.
Good luck with figuring out what works best for you.
As for me, I think I'm going to try something along the lines of mixing Surrogates, The Final Cut, Dark City, The Sixth Day, and dreaded live action Aeon Flux.

Pinky and the Brain.

But fine. Adeel and tzachs.
#1215
The Outer Zone - Cyberpunk makes sense because usually its a dystopian setting. And a lot of dystopians involve major censorship.
But yeah, cyberpunk has lots of possibilities as long as it's not trying to copy Bladerunner.

And you can't vote for the July MAGS yet. We still have 6 1/2 hours to finalize our entries. Then the thread will be open for voting.
#1216
What? It doesn't hurt to compile a list of movies to watch for ideas. But fine, I'll go work on a new inventory gui...
After putting Akira on my list.
#1217
Thanks for the luck.
I've already discovered where I screwed up with the inventory.
#1218
Well, this theme could certainly work well for making a cyberpunk game. Or at least set in a dystopian world.
Now to find my copy of Dark City...
#1219
Great. Now I have time to figure out where I screwed up with things.
