I only wish I could see your face when you "play" my entry... (laugh)
I will attempt to find or make an emoticon that best fits.

Going insane sounds fun. You completed something, so don't be sorry.
It's more than I've managed so far...
I don't know if anything will be actually playable other than the alien minigame.

Ideas being triggered by something is usually how my best ideas come. Intentionally trying to think of something rarely works out well.

And it's alright. I was just joking. I wouldn't expect even you to have something finished within 13 hours of the theme being announced.
But 5 rooms is impressive. I'll probably have to watch a movie or anime series to even have an idea to start my first room.

I'm almost disappointed. When I saw your name listed as the last post, I half expected you to say you already had your game finished.

I can say I have no ideas in mind at all yet. The theme did make me think of Arcanum a bit.
Hopefully something will trigger an actual idea for me sometime this week.

Edit: While trying and failing to take a nap, something in a video I had on in the background triggered an idea. It's not in any way an original idea, but it is at least an idea.
An underground world that's running low on supplies, especially energy. The player character(s) will of course be finding a solution. No idea on anything more specific, but it's at least a starting point.

Yes, it'll be interesting indeed. I have a feeling that some of it will be like watching a train wreck.
It'll be interesting to see how much I can actually pull off with my ideas since I'm now fighting against sleep deprivation and can barely hold a... kitten? No, that's not the right word... Thimble? Toaster? I'm sure it's some word starting with t. (okay, not quite that bad).
I'll see what I can get done in the next 5 hours or so. Things that aren't at least somewhat functional will be dummied out. And after that I will finish up whatever loose ends need to be tied and dot any polkas I find.

Yes, definitely add more bugs. The more the crunchier.
But congratulations for it being playable from start to finish. Mine has neither at the moment. And will have no end...
Today I have to add in the login screen, a screen to choose the different mini games, make all the mini games actually playable instead of skeletons with limited interaction, add music, and try not to go insane.

If a character eats bugs, extra points.

I just finished down views for the 4 life stages for the penguin virtual pet tamagotchi thing I'm doing. There's only a 2% chance of side views or animation beyond waddling up or down...

Now to design some aliens, Vanilla Ice rpg character, and maybe even do a bit of coding...

With only 35 hours left, it looks like I'm going to have to ditch any creativity in the rpg segment and limit it to 1 on 1 battle.
But I have a fair amount of ideas for the alien segment and it doesn't require having to implement coding I haven't done before.

Hopefully everyone who has started a game will at least have something they can share, even if it's only a minute long and has no actual gameplay.
Good luck to all.

My advice is to do MAGs games. It pushes you to create a game within a month and can help you much better than just trying to make one big game.
Seeing what others can do in a month and the boundaries that can be pushed with the engine helps a lot with learning. Even if you can't finish a game in the deadline, trying to make one is enough to help you learn by experience.
Another piece of advice is to make at least one game using graphics you don't have to make yourself. Also, trying to figure out mechanics from specific games can help with learning.
The first game I attempted was a fan sequel of Day of the Tentacle. I never finished it, but I learned quite a bit because I didn't need to make my own graphics and I was familiar with the game mechanics.
Maniac Mansion Mania or Reality on the Norm games are a good place to start since both have asset packs and anyone is free to make a game in their universes.
And my last piece of advice is to be active in the forums.

Now I almost want to watch Varsity Blues again to see how James James Van Der Beek handled a Texas accent (assuming his character was supposed to be originally from Texas).
But I'm also very afraid of how bad it might be...

edit: Watched a trailer and many of the accents are as bad as I feared...

I was close with my guess of Not Another Teen Movie...
Same actor, same basic character.

Possibly. Of course My Favorite Martian, Bewitched, or dozens of other sitcoms could have been mentioned. It's not like it was that creative. Which is probably why it only lasted 2 episodes before being pulled...

Haven't played The Stanley Parable, but GUI Quest does sound a lot like Evoland. But with adventure games instead of rpgs.
So, it should also go through different graphics styles and other changes in adventure games over the decades.

Alf, vaguely... Alf was just a puppet most of the time. Both Dinosaurs and Aliens in the Family were shown on ABC on TGIF with people in full body costumes with animatronic heads made by Jim Henson's company. Except for the babies, of course. The only improvement Aliens in the Family had over Dinosaurs is that the baby in it didn't sound like Elmo...

Yes, it is indeed Aliens in the Family.
It's what happens when someone decides that if Dinosaurs was successful that the Brady Bunch with aliens would be just as successful.

Nope. But now I feel bad that you actually did research...
I'm showing a little mercy early.

Forgive me for what I'm doing. And to prevent a little bit of trauma: Yes it's James Van Der Beek. And no it's not Dawson's Creek.

Oh, that's most likely closer to what will happen for me. But an extra day does mean 1-4 extra hours I will actually spend on the project...
