I got recruited to work on a game for a voice actor's Adventure X game. So, I don't know if I'll be able to finish a game for MAGs or not. Definitely won't be able to do any of the ideas I had. I'll see if I can figure out something, though.
Good luck to those working on games.

Since Adventure X has a gamejam starting this weekend, that's going to end up being higher priority. I'm not going to abandon this game, but it'll be shorter than I had originally planned and will be using low res graphics.
And while writing this, I came up with a new idea which will extend the game without need of more than a couple of extra assets.

Quote from: Babar on Wed 06/11/2024 08:22:58@VampireWombat : I feel a bit dumb, but I can't get to the screen you shared in the screenshot. I don't see any interactable except the AC unit, and the edges of the screens don't go anywhere?

Spoiler
On the left edge of the screen is a hotspot, for some reason you have to use the hand icon to move between locations

Yeah, I really should have just made transitions from one room to another work based on regions or walkable areas or something. My AGS skills are really rusty and I didn't even think about either on Sunday.

Quote from: pell on Mon 04/11/2024 16:34:32I'm trying to think of something while my game dev hat is still on.

Does anyone have a premise or idea you're not using that you'd like to see made into a MAGS game this month? I'd like to have something nailed down very early so the rest of the month can be spent implementing the game.
I don't have any specific suggestions, but you could always look into public domain sources for ideas. You could look into mythology. Perhaps something involving selkies or a kelpie. Or you could get inspiration from The Odyssey. Perhaps a public domain book like Robinson Crusoe or Treasure Island.
Or you could randomly choose a location with a large enough body of water and look into legends from that area. There are so many possibilities. The main thing I'd ask is what kind of game do you want to make? DO you want something mystery related? You could do a murder mystery on an tiny island. You could do something like what if some Agatha Christy story happened on that island and adjust things accordingly.
If you want more ideas or want to bounce ideas back and forth, feel free to ask.

I wasn't sure if I was going to do more than just offer to help someone make a game, but I guess I will be trying to make a Monkey Island type game. I was trying to get back to sleep and the video I chose to do so sparked enough an idea to lead to decent fleshing out of ideas already.

If anyone is familiar with The Longest Johns, a couple of their songs are inspiration to some degree. Whether or not there will actually be some kind of water based cryptid/monstrous waterfowl is still to be determined.

I took a short break and then tested the second upload. It seems to work at least. I expect absolutely no votes. Nor do I want any. After my unplanned hiatus from the forum and game making, it was just nice to actually complete something, even if it wasn't anything remotely close to what I wanted.

Congrats to those who finished. And good luck finishing next time pell.

Second version compiled and uploaded. Posting here about it as proof that it's before the closing. Hope to test and have a "final" version before the close.

Created page and compiled first version. Haven't tested. Going to eat dinner before doing second version.

Chupacabra Crunch

With the headache I've had most of today, I'm struggling with putting things together. I'll have something finished by the official deadline, but won't promise it'll be more than just walking around and some dialog. From there I will to have some updates until either the thread is closed or I'm too tired to work any more. Good luck to everyone still working.

Quote from: Perpetuall on Sun 03/11/2024 19:12:29Well, all I really have is a demo of a battle. I accepted a while back that I wasn't going to be finishing a full game this time around. So, I'm probably not going to be too picky about it. I would just like it to at least be as functional as possible.

Chupacabras are mysterious creatures.
Ahh, okay. Good luck with that much. I'm attempting to at least have a beginning, middle, and end and "puzzles". Just none of it will be as good as I'd like.

Chupacabra tangent below.
Spoiler
The most mysterious thing to me is that I've heard that the most known description of chupacabras and the movie Species are both from 1995. Except I'm pretty sure I had a shirt featuring the typical chupacabra from 92 or 93. I did find images of the shirt this morning, but I can't find proof of when it's from.

Now to go back to finishing the more refined version of the cereal box for my game...

Quote from: Perpetuall on Sun 03/11/2024 14:24:42So I have until 6:00 tonight. That makes it easy since that's my bedtime anyway and I don't intend to stay up any later than that. Technically I have something submittable right now, so I'm just going to spend the next 10 hours finetuning it, but I'm not going to stress. I know it's not great, lol. Next one will be better.

Wait... we both have until 6. We must be in the same time zone! I live south of you so I guess that makes sense.
Ahh. Then I guess it depends on how much of a perfectionist you choose to be on if you submit before me or not. I don't have anything playable at all. Since there were thunderstorms so much yesterday and I had already lost power in the morning, I didn't turn my pc on at all. So all I got done was what I could on my Chromebook.

Ahh. That does make sense. I had no idea since it doesn't show a location for you. And must not go on a tangent about Chupacabras and work on my game instead...

Quote from: Perpetuall on Sun 03/11/2024 12:01:18Aye. I spent most of Friday arguing with some folks over whether or not the Earth is flat. And since Saturday is my day of rest and didn't do any work yesterday, I too am in the same boat. Godspeed my friend! Let's see who finishes first, lol
That argument is silly and easily. It depends if you're using a map or a globe. The earth is malleable and changes shape to represent whatever representative object the most people that day have looked at.
Spoiler
Of course I don't believe that. I'm just joking and have absolutely no interest in arguing with anyone about the shape of anything more important than cookies or cakes.

I would say that depends whose timezone is closest to GMT.Since the deadline is only 5:59 pm for me (assuming what I looked up is right), I most likely will be submitting within 30 minutes of the deadline.
#53
I just realized that with the time change tomorrow that I have no clue when the deadline will be. Hopefully I'll get it right.

Also, I'm considering confining walkable areas so I only need up and down walk cycles. It depends on how much I get done in the next couple of hours.

Good luck to anyone else still working on their game.
#54
I think something is conspiring against me. I had a stomach bug yesterday and didn't get anything done. And lost power for awhile this morning.
Hopefully nothing else will go wrong and I'll be able to make something playable. Definitely won't be a great game. A big part that will determine the quality is whether or not I can come up with a better start to the game.
#55
I have too much left to do and not really enough time to do it. Maybe if I had 4-6 more working hours than I do I could make something somewhat worthwhile. Good luck to those still working on their games.
#56
Well, I've hit the inevitable part where I begin to question if my game will be worth finishing or not. I'm going to try to find some kind of inspiration. If I don't, then what I'll have will be mediocre at best.
#57
I wasn't sure about doing this one or not. I couldn't think of an unfinished MAGS game I wanted to work on this month. But I did look through an external hard drive and found one. I'll have to do some research for when the game was started, but I'd guess it's from my first year on the forum. I should just barely have enough time to finish it, assuming nothing major happens.

Quote from: Stupot on Sat 21/09/2024 03:26:52How are we getting on, folks?
I haven't done anything for a couple of weeks since the deadline for Vance's yearly $10X game jam is tomorrow. I'll probably start working on the game again on Tuesday.
#59
Wow... I don't think I've used ICQ in like 20 years.

I needed an idea for a game to work off some of my rustiness off anyway. So I'm in. Maybe between having 2 weeks in the middle of not working on it and things I've learned since I was more active in MAGs will mean I can actually complete the game. But I'll start with a fairly simple idea and only 1 or 2 rooms just in case...
