Life is Strange was such a punch in the gut for me that I flat out refused to play the prequel Before the Storm because I didn't want to go through another emotional rollercoaster like the first one. That's the magic thing about these games, they can lift you up or utterly fuck you up if they catch you in the right (wrong?) mood and this is something you just don't get with so many other genres.

Yup, mine, for example :-D Seriously though, I think my first AGS game is a good example of that because what I wanted to do was tell a story and create a certain mood, but I forced myself into shoehorning a puzzle there because otherwise, it would not be a... (gasp) GAME. And I still regret it, to be honest. Some people actually liked the puzzle itself, but I should have followed my gut and just left it out. These things help you learn what you really want, though. That's great.

I'd like to see that! Hope you get around to it :)
Ah. Sounds like something I'd probably not go out of my way to play, but since I already got it from Humble Bundle it's something to try anyway.

I think I stopped playing Life Is Strange while in the bathroom, so maybe played only an hour or so. I think it was last summer and the heat made me stop wanting to play any games that required any form of thinking.
Unfortunately, I haven't played many games which made me feel much either way.

I don't see any reason to have to throw in puzzles to make something count as a game. I mean, visual novels tend to be considered games. Though I guess figuring out how to get certain endings can be considered a puzzle, or at least puzzling. Though, admittedly I've only played through one visual novel myself. But that's mostly because the only ones I own are made by Renpy users are not that engaging...

Maybe one day, once I actually start making games beyond the MAGS ones...

I think if I install Ubuntu Restricted Extras, the sound will appear. Am I right?  (roll)

But Jesus is afraid of vampires  (laugh)
I honestly can't answer that. Maybe someone more experienced can. The majority of the time I play AGS games via Wine, only playing the Linux version when someone makes the game using the Beta version of AGS.

I don't know if afraid would be the right word. I did watch part of Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter once...
But as a vampire wombat, I am closer to a vampire bat (mostly due to being a horrible pun).

Oh, so that's what type of game Dear Esther is. Maybe I should actually get around to playing it sometime. I've listened to the soundtrack countless times.
I have played and enjoyed Life is Strange. Though I haven't actually finished it...
Personally, I have no problems with games that rely more on story than puzzles. In fact, I think some games that do have puzzles might actually be better without them. In fact, I would kind of like to make a game that is story/location driven one day.

Best I can do is offer to test the game myself. I don't have Linux Mint installed, but I do have 2 versions of Ubuntu on separate partitions.

Makes me think of Outpost. So, good job.

Well, if it helps, I did actually download it since I posted. Sure, I haven't actually played it, but maybe one day...

Good luck with reaching the 1,000 downloads.

Shanghai Knights?

I personally have 0 problems with Steam whatsoever. The majority of games I own are on Steam.
And I admit, I'm one of the 700 or so people to have added this game to my library and not downloaded or played it yet.

Are kids scared by the monsters and the Count from Sesame Street?
When I last had a booth at the local Con a couple of years ago, I took Eyegore with me on the second day and not a single kid seemed scared. The closest was being shy.

But back on topic... Yesterday I figured out what Massimo and Twitch will be hiding from, and hopefully it'll be an interesting surprise. Now to figure out an overall plot for the game...

Aww, guess I can't help then. Sure, I don't have a "Texas accent", but most definitely not British. But if you ever need video/still images of a Hunchback puppet that looks like a cross between Igor from Young Frankenstein and the Toxic Crusader, let me know...
(I blame watching UHF last week for me thinking that Eyegore Hunchback would be a good children's learning host.)

I just tried and had no problems running the AGS64 file.

I had the same problem with Cave of Avarice and checked and yours won't work for me either. Something about the Beta doesn't work with Wine.
If you have trouble building a Linux version, maybe Cat can help.

Spoiler
Glad you figured it out. I probably should have removed the keycard from the inventory, but I didn't think about it at the time. I did plan to have the outside of the university for the ending, but ran out of time. But considering there were several times yesterday I didn't think I'd even get as much as I did done...

Some of the buttons are picky where you click at times. Custom actions built over the BASS template. So there may be some times when the action remains. Just right click to get rid of it.
Left click to interact and right click to examine.

Somewhat ditto for me.
I think I have everything more or less finished. But I'm having trouble with some walkable areas...

So, no one's actually interested in the theme this month?

I'll be starting work on my game tomorrow (have to finish my entry for July first). It looks like I'll be making a Massimo and Twitch game that starts in Media Res. If only had a clue who/what they're running from and why...

Huh, I've lived in Texas all but 1 year of my life and never heard that idiom. I wonder if that's an actual thing or if it's like when the movie Diary of the Dead tried to use the phrase "Don't Mess With Texas" to mean something other than a anti-littering slogan, similar to "Give a hoot, don't pollute."

Someone could make a "Where's Waldo/Wally" type game with randomization of where he's hidden and using hats and huts at different locations.

If you mean the Australian rivers, that might be the ideal place to place fisherman's huts next to!  8-)
Or perhaps organize a rubber duck race, only with hats instead of ducks floating down the water.
No, I meant the large slug like aliens from Star Wars, like Jabba the Hutt. But I was mostly joking. The closest I'd come to anything like Hutts would be parody like in Spaceballs with Pizza The Hut.

But what about Hutts?
