General Discussion / Small volume problem
Fri 22/12/2006 16:23:38
So, I have the following problem - I have a number of wavs which have different volume. Is there an easy way to equalise the level of the volume? Or do I have to do it manually, one by one?

Bad day on the Midway
There's nothing quite like it, you have to play it again and again to grasp just how genius a game it is.

Heh, I don't mind misspelling the shivah, Dave does. :P

First of all, I would like to point out that it is spelled 'Shivah', not 'Shiva'.

Anyway, congratulations, Dave.

As a side note, there's this ridiculous anti-piracy campaign going on in Sofia. Local artists are half-naked on huge posters around the touch and on their chests there is a red sign that says "Piracy Steals". It's indeed hilarious, for among the people whom piracy has done great wrong are a painter, and a sculptor.

I'd also like to say how much I respect a Bulgarian alternative rock band, called PIF. They make music and released two albums in 2001 and 2003(which are probably the best Bulgarian albums from the new millenium I own). Then they decided that the income  from record sales isn't really that vast and released their third album for free on the Internet. To make a living, they constantly tour. Not huge venues, at least, not often, but clubs and such.

I think that there is a considerable difference between buying cds of world-famous artists and buying those of local ones. As much as I like say, U2, I hardly think that they rely on my presumable copy of their album to live on. Moreover, they've never come to play here live.
On the other hand, I do buy Bulgarian cds, not that there are an awful lot I like these days, but still, I do.

Anytime from the 18th of December to the 7th of January would suit me fine.
Also, do you plan on finally setting a theme of some sort or will you just say you will and then forget about it?

I have dreams that I remember quite often, almost daily. Also, I hear music in dreams and if I do remember the melody afterwards I record it to a song.
Zor, having a dream diary seems quite cool, but I wouldn't want just anyone to read it, you know. ¬_¬
We shall see, what the night brings this time.

Heh, in dreams I often think "Am I dreaming?" and then quickly dismiss the thought.

What techniques do you recommend, Zor?

Well different people consider different books to be really good, and I guess that's why pretty much every book has been released - just search the books on the site.

That's why they usually have 'free book' stickers on the front cover.

What more can one mortal do but marvel at the quality of that drawing?

Thumbs up, it looks amazing!

Yeah, it's something like that except that you can see what the previous people who read the book think and respectively, write your own thoughts.
I release books which I won't ever read again - sure, a pulp thriller novel is OK to read once, but hardly interesting the second time.

General Discussion / Bookcrossing!

Quite a few of you may know what bookcrossing is - basically, it's leaving a book in a public place for someone else to read it. Each book has its own unique id so that the one who finds it may go to the bookcrossing website and write his impressions about it. After that he himself 'sets the book free', etc etc etc.
It's an amazing initiative, and I've released a few books (I didn't need anyway) already. Sadly, only one has been journaled so far, but you can always hope.
So do you like the idea? Have you done that already? Or you think it doesn't have potential? Share your thoughts.

Hey, awesome stuff, people!

A song from my upcoming album.

To quote, Nikolas, OMG, I'm honoured!!!!111 And who wouldn't be, indeed!

Anyway, what happened to your previous projects? The one with the cars and um, what was the other one you were developing simultaneously? I wish you luck with this game, although I have my doubts whether it will see the light of day.

Auhsor, I haven't listened to post-fish marillion much, only afraid of sunlight and brave. I wasn't too impressed with the former, but the latter is almost as good as misplaced childhood, which I consider to be one of the very best conceptual albums of all time. I'll give marbles a listen soon, I think.

I won't be getting too personal, but here are some of my accomplishments in the 4 years I have been an AGSer:
- Got fascinated with music. Rock in particular. And musicals.
- Decided to write some music, and with the help of Petteri, I think, I got good at it, I also hopefully improved my singing, composing, playing and arranging skills during that period
- Created several games of dubious quality, which some people liked. Also helped musically for other people's released and unreleased games.
- Created an ezine, and released hm, 14 issues of it.
- Became fascinated with serious literature, Fitzgerald, Graham Greene, and Dumas being among my favourites.
- Became a fan of films noir and their derivatives.
- Learnt and realised the difference between friend and acquaintance.
- Evolved from the 'new guy' in class to the class representative, although I never really craved for the respect I got.
- Hopefully, became more mature on the internet.
- Edited, participated in reviving and wrote for the school newspaper... which turned out to be pretty bad.
Well that's what I can think of at the moment, it's quite interesting to read what you people have been up to. :)

Okay, so here go my two cents:
I suggest that the plugin category be merged with a possible module award, there simply isn't sense in having two separate categories for basically the same thing.
I also strongly support the idea of a most innovative game award, I personally am pretty bored with stereotypic games and think that ags game developers should be encouraged to try new ideas and push the genre further with an award.
A best voice acting award might be considered, since there have been several games with voice acting released this year. Maybe the nominees in that category shouldn't be 5 but 3. What do you think?

Edit: Since apparently there is no best plugin category, but 'resources' one, why just not include modules in it too?

I don't know it works pretty fine for me... sometimes it's overloaded and it goes down for like, 15 minutes. That happens quite seldom, though.
