I dont think there should be more restrictions, since it would restrict the ideas mainly of the writer. I consider the application a nice way of allowing only the determined participants to compete. I also consider a theme, as was in this one, to be the best type of restriction.

Petteri: there was a hint option which flashed the locations on the map where you still had stuff to do in the timeblock.

Andail, can we wait for a day or so to polish the game? We're currently making the backgrounds prettier and adding a final puzzle that was planned but the deadline was too short for it to be implemented.

And Im dead sure it did use sierra's engine because the exe file was named sciv.exe.

Come to think of it, GK2 isn't a SCIV adventure, although PQ4 is.
