Thanks  :D
Yeah, that's supposed to be a skateboard and now that I look at it, it's really a bit small, but that only adds to the comedy style of the game  ;)

Critics' Lounge / bunny sprites for c&c
Thu 23/02/2006 15:25:46
Hey folks,

about a year ago my brother designed a bunny character for a game idea he had. I was a bit bored today and decided to turn his concept art into an actual sprite. Here it is:

1x 3x

Tell me what you think? Any c&c is much appreciated.
Thanks.

I've just started reading the script till chapter 4. I'm not sure whether I realy want to read on, since this whole concept sounds so wonderful that I don't want to spoil it for me completely.
The beginning is really humorous. I just love the main character's motivation. Very nice parody of the usual RPG stuff. I also like the treeman puzzle very much.

Overall, this sounds like a wonderful game. The mockup looks great. The character design fits perfectly. The background, even though it is beautiful, could be a little more cartoony.
The idea of the good/evil ranking also sounds really nice and interesting.

Keep up the good work. I'm really looking forward to the finished product.

Joyce, When I speak to the Seer he says his myopia is mended.  When I look at the crystal ball the response is something about it being better in a bowling alley.  At the fountain, it says I need more information about the tunnel.  Yes, I have given the keys to the angel, hatched the spawnling and given it to its father.

The Ivey, I have read the book I have in inventory, Chapters 1 & 11.  Is there another book I should read?

I think I have to get the Seer to let me look into the crystal ball and I don't know how to do that.

Spoiler
Did you talk to him? Did you solve his little problem?

That's true, Ivy, thanks for catchin' that!

Okay.... it's my turn......I'm at a stand-still, I have:
Spoiler
fish, bones, lights, lens, demon, lit candle, book, keys, ash. I need to find water (not fountain) and still haven't figured out how to open the hatch in fountain.

I'm SURE it's something really easy that I'm missing......it usually is!!

Spoiler
Well, you have a couple of things in your inventory that are not useful to you, but maybe to others... Don't worry about the hatch and the water yet. You first need to get more information.

Does anyone know what to do with the note at the scary-go-round?

Sure, you have to figure it out!  ;)
Seriously now, try to solve it yourself. You've just started and it's so much more satisfactory to solve it on your own. If you can't figure it out now, come back to it later and explore the rest of the game instead. There is much to see and to do. Don't just give up so easily without really trying.

Why did you change the topic? I already started working on a forest...

No, I'm not using a Mac. I'm just pretending by using a Mac layout. I have Windows XP Professional and Firefox 1.5. I'll try and install Flash again. Maybe something went wrong during installation.

EDIT:
Ok, it's working now. It wasn't the flash player though, because it still didn't work after I reinstalled it. I then updated simply every extension of Firefox I have and now it works, which is really strange, because none of the extensions was supposed to have an influence on flash files and it just didn't work on your site... Mmmh...
Well, it works now, though I don't really know what the problem was.
Anyway, with now visible fonts this site looks really great. I'm gonna start downloading right away. Thanks, Darth!
#69
Well,  I don't have problems with other sites using flash... Weird.
#70
I love the idea, but I don't see any fonts on this site. For me, it just looks like this.
Is there anything special I need installed to see them?

I'm also on the might-enter-list.

EDIT:
Anyone interested in forming a pair with me for this comp? Pm me, if you are...

Even though I simply love seaduck's version, I think you should keep the general style of yours, Scott. If the skin of seaduck's version wasn't purple and posted somewhere else, I wouldn't see any connection between the two sprites as they are so different. I liked the thinness of your version and the somewhat strange proportions. Made it look more alien-like imo.
Using reference pics is probably a good idea, though...

A really nice sprite you have there, though it still needs some work.
First of all, I'd change the colour of the clothes, since they look too much like human skin, which is kind of confusing. Maybe something more orange would fit.
The pose is kind of stiff and that skirt is definitely too high.
Proportion and facial feature are completely up to you, since it's an alien.
The shading is off to a good start, but could use some more work as well.

Overall, this looks like it's going to be a nice character style. I would definitely enjoy it in a game.

Spoiler

I just tried your advice, Venus, and still can't get it to work.  The eye and brain on the poster in the rec room give me nothing but "It looks familiar, but you don't know why" type of messages.  The posters in Knox's office give me nothing after the notice of the temporal lobe.  I can't get back to the original lab at all (if you meant that brain poster) because it just says "I don't think Dr. Mitchell's office is that way".  So, basically, am I just screwed here?

Yes, I meant the posters in the original lab... Guess you'll have to start a new game to get the happy ending.

Yeah, I know. The face is as girlish as I could get it, but since the profile stated "gender: male", I decided to go for a male body... I might alter her hair a bit to make the girlyness more apparent...

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist:

Neverwinter Nights works over LAN and is indeed a good game to play with some friends.
I also like Age of Mythology.
Both should work on the computers you got.

This project looks really interesting and I'm looking forward to its completion.

Anyway, about your file size/GUI comments: The file size will have a great influence on how many people will download your finished game. Since you posted this thread here, I assume that you want people to download and play your game. IMHO, the file size is something you should care about. I'm not saying leave all those 3D scences. Just try to keep the size as small as possible. This way a lot more people will download and give you credit for your work. What's the use of a 100MB game that isn't played, because of the download size?
Concerning the new GUI, I prefer the old one, too. Not because it looks better, but because it is more functional. In your new GUI the verbs are in a single row on the bottom of the screen. This means that the player has to move the mouse quite a long way to access them all. The old GUI offers the verbs in three rows, so the mouse doesn't need to be moved so much. IMHO, the less time the player spends to access the GUI, the more time he/she has to enjoy the game. If you want people to enjoy your game, the design of the GUI is something you should care about, imo.

About the front standing view: She really looks like she is about to fall backwards. That's because she isn't standing in the right perspective...

Apart from that, your game looks very promising. I'm looking forward to this.

I totally agree to Nikolas. At last in the EU, there is no country that has the death-penalty and the system seems to be working. You don't need to threaten people to kill them, in order to prevent them from killing others. Otherwise the European Union's killing rate would simply go throught the roof, but as far as I know, it is even lower than in the USA. I think threatening someone to kill him as a deterrend simply sends the wrong signals. Let's take a simpler example than killing. Let's say a child hits someone. Should the parents hit him for it as punishment and as a deterrend to not do it again? The person who was hit and that person's relatives might feel better, knowing that the kid had to make the same expierence as a punishment. But doesn't that also imply the idea that hitting becomes an established form to punish someone for that kid? Why do so many children who were hit by their parents, go and start hitting their own children? It's a vicious circle and to break that is really difficult. If a government now kills people as punishment, doesn't killing become an established form of punishment? I try to understand the difference between murder and killing by enacting law, but even though I consider myself to be somewhat educated, I still don't get it. How can someone who has received no education at all, but that violence is the answer to everything, get that difference?

This whole argument that death-penalty is not murder and wrong, because it is enacted by the law is something I really don't understand even though I'm really trying to. Who makes that law? It's the government. Does that mean that as long as it is stated in some law, a government can do anything they want to? That would actually make Hitler a very decent guy, who did nothing wrong at all. He was elected by the people of his country! They didn't stop him making laws that stated that Jews were not considered to be humans and could therefore be killed to "clean" the country! I think we can all agree that Hitler wasn't a decent guy and that he murdered millions of people, right? According to his own laws, he was doing nothing wrong whatsoever. Simply saying that the government may kill people, because that's how it is stated in the laws, is a bit too risky for my taste. Even if a majority of people agrees to those laws doesn't make them ultimately right. We just hope that the majority of people is doing the right think, but that's not necessarily true. I am German myself and believe me, I have to deal with my country's past on almost a daily level, because it is my duty to make sure that something like this is never going to happen again and I'm currently reminded on that, which is a really good thing. I'm quite certain that something like that is not going to happen here again, because the majority of people understood that this was just plainly wrong. A consequence of Germany's past is, that we have established some unalienable rights for people. Nothing and no-one can take those away from you, no matter what religion you believe, which colour of skin you have or what you did. The most important of these rights is living. No-one should be able to take that away from you, no matter who you are and what you did, because everyone could be wrong. A government can be wrong, people, even if there are a lot of them in a group, can be wrong. Therefore an eye for an eye should never ever be the society's saftey net, because the society could be just as wrong as the individual acting on his own incentive. If you take away someone's life, that life is lost forever and since every institution could always be wrong, I'm really glad to live in a country that ensures me to have the unalienable right of living.
There is no ultimate wrong or right. Not everything is just black and white and since we as incomplete humans are not able to determine which colour it is exactly, we shouldn't kill people, claiming that we could.
