Listen to the seer's prophecy again and then look around the carnage-val and see if you can find anything that might have been mentioned.

Sorry, Ivy actually asked me to make a .zip version for people (like Ivy herself) who didn't know what to do with .rar files.  I'll get on that.  But, yeah: WinRar.

A scent that makes women sexual beasts?  That's nuts!

Ring tones on the other hand (or Pherotones as they're more commonly known)... now those are real turn ons.

I liked the growing story, and being able to run was nice, even if I could only do it in annoyingly short spurts.  The game was shorter and a lot easier, which is not good in my opinion.  And I still wish he wouldn't make me switch to the mouse for the menus and the one keypad puzzle.

But the story is intriguing.

The ending, however, was a real disappointment.  From a storytelling point of view, that was a complete cop-out.  I think I accomplished something... but what the hell was it?

Spoiler
Gameplay usually involves reward.  I was rewarded for pushing through the first 15 minutes by lots of tidbits of story, but it all the story bits were questions, there were no answers.

Then the final boss fight with, what I can only assume was a hallucination, gave me no reward whatsoever.  The gameplay wasn't especially exciting.  It was pretty much the same strategy of the last boss.  And if you think about it, if someone is unable to beat the boss, or doesn't care to try, they could just quit as soon as they reached it, and then load up episode three (when it comes out) and not miss ANYTHING.

I know it's episodic and everything, and that the answers are coming, but still... Even a few seconds of cutscene at the end would have given me a bit of validation.  Answer at least one of the questions that the story is posing... As it is, I just feel ripped off.

There are better ways to make someone want to come back for the next episode.  Ways that don't involve giving them nothing but the promise of something of substance.

General Discussion / Re: Strong Bad!

I've been a fan of Homestar for... I can't remember how long, and when I went back to the US to visit my parents for Christmas 2004, I was so surprised and proud when I found out that my little sister had asked for the Strong Bad DVD from my parents.   Until then, I still thought of her as a dumb little elementary schooler.  Now I realize that she's grown into a proper videogame loving high school nerd.  I'm so proud.

Hey all, I managed to have my game Spooks done in time for release something!  I know, it surprised me too.  ;)

I put up something for the last two Release Somethings, and I don't want to be left out of this one, so I'll just point out that the reason that she "managed" to have Spooks done in time, was because she was whipping me viciously and threatening terrible things if I didn't finish it.

It was kind of hot.

I just wanted to chime in that this is a gem of a game and I'm super proud to have been part of the team.  The last month and a half of working with Ivy, Scorposer, and the beta testers was a blast!  Congratulations Erin!  It's a fantastic first game (it's a fantastic game, period.) and hopefully the first of many!

One thing, it took me about 40+ minutes to complete it? Hours of gameplay? I was dissapointed by that statement and wanted more!  ;D

I believe that's marketing lingo for: "Hours of gameplay... if you get stuck for an hour."  I think that was based on one of the beta testers taking 3 hours to finish the first playthrough (because she got stuck on one puzzle for a long time).  :P

Actually, I was just tonight reminded that as my birthday's coming up in a month's time, I'll be able to use Japan's cheap flight deal to go on a holiday to Okinawa if I so desire. So, Vince, you up for Jittens? :D

Haha.  Hell yeah.  If you do come down to our beautiful island for a visit, we'll have to meet!  My wife and I will take you out for some Okinawa Soba, the best food in the world!  Unfortunately, March is kind of a crummy time to visit Okinawa.  Scuba and beach season is just starting and it's often a bit chilly (the Okinawan definition of chilly: You may have to use a blanket while sleeping), but there's still plenty of stuff to do.

Sorry Nik, it's a single elimination tournament and my baby knocked your baby out of the prelims.

Congrats Coffee Lady!  She's a beauty!  Welcome to the club!

Actually (as posted to the gamepolitics.com website here) here's exactly what JT said in response:

Quote from: Jack ThompsonFascinating, in a number of regards:

1. The creation of this "game" does not meet the terms and conditions of the Modest Proposal. Not even close; thus, no cigar.

2. Still waiting to hear from Paul Eibeler as to HIS favorite charity for the donation. Penny Arcade's nit wits can't read, obviously.

3. Fascinating, further, that Dennis McCauley, who is the freelance "columnist" who runs this site can't use his phone to call me at 305-666-4366 to interview me about my take on this. Any real journalist, despite his animus, would have done just that. So much for Mr. McCauley's "journalistic ethics," which is, of course, an oxymoron in the video game enthusiast press, such as this site.

4. Finally, the attorneys for these idiots will be contacted.

More importantly, if Dennis McCauley were really a news person, he would report the murderous rampage by Jacob Robida that stretched from New Bedford, Mass., to Arkansas over the last three days. Cop-killing games have been identified by the Mayor of New Bedford.

Now, kiddies, brace yourselves for this one. Jack Thompson

He is of course referring to the Jacob Robida hate crime rampage.  The guy was trying to kill gays which ended in a firefight with the police as far as I understand, having nothing to do with video games, but whatever.

And do you really think that could be JT's phone number?  Would he actually be so stupid as to post it in a comment to a blog?  And does his number actually have '666' in it?  Apparently, the answer to all those questions is... yes.  That's just too cute.

There's a guy who goes by the name TPSReports on another forum I frequent, and everytime Office Space gets mentioned here, which is semi-frequently, I think of mentioning him and then I remember you guys don't know who he is :/

I know who he is!  I frequented that board a long time ago, but now only lurk it because I'm terrified of the people there...  :-X  I guess my daikon isn't big enough...

It didn't say that he's being brought in for his cgi company.  I'd say it's more likely that he's being brought in for his directing skills and unique eye for style.

It does say, however, that his cgi company will be handling the 3d backdrops rather than building elaborate sets like the first movie which is a bit of a let down (like Darth, I was hoping for more practical sets and effects) but they're operating on fairly low budget.

General Discussion / Dark Crystal 2? Hell yes!
Wed 01/02/2006 11:36:09
Dark Crystal was one of my fondest childhood memories.  Normally, when I hear they're bringing my childhood memories back from the grave and fucking around with them, I get nervous or angry. (He-Man, I'm looking at you...)  So, when I first heard a year or so back that they were making a Dark Crystal 2, I got real nervous.  But it really looks like they're doing it up right!

They've signed Genndy Tartakovsky to direct the thing.  The guy behind Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Star Wars: Clone Wars.  That makes me very excited.  And of course Froud will stay on board as the character designer.  Plus, they're keepin' it real by using puppets for the characters.  I'm very excited.  How about you?

And check out this plot snippet:

QuoteSet hundreds of years after the first pic, sequel follows a mysterious girl made of fire who steals a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun.

How can that not be awesome?

Here's the news report.  Sorry, you have to watch a short ad to get to it... stupid.

Revan, I just wanted to say that I love that you never showed Walter's face.  It was my secret desire when I created him that never showing his face would be an ongoing joke in the comic.  Like    Al from Police Squad.

And I love your art bush_monkey.  Very cool.

With idiotic comments like these, how can I not get upset? :P

It's a joke! You know that, there's no way to stop people making jokes especially in such a jokey forum.

Yeah.  I live in Japan... It was a joke.  Sorry, Terran.  Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.

My mom is an expert on EMDR which is not entirely dissimilar from hypnosis.  I am a skeptic on the mind reading thing, though.  But I wouldn't cut you down about it.

I personally think that it's more likely that your girlfriend is the only one with mental powers and that she was just choosing the number that she knew you would guess.

Quote...Did I ever come out and say I was better then everyone else? If I have ever come out and stated such, then I'm sorry.

No, but you don't have to come out and say something to make it crystal clear that you believe it.

QuoteI am a church going person myself, but that dosen't mean I have to force it on others, or take everything so seriously. But, I won't even bother going into my beliefs, because, like yours, nobody cares....
...Lots of people go to church.

You've entirely missed his point.  You seem to do that a lot.  He wasn't saying that nobody in the world cares that you love Jesus.  He was quite clearly saying that nobody here cares.

Please stop preaching.  Play some games, try your hand at game making, enjoy the community, and engage in a mature debate or two.  But do not preach to us.  You're not particulary good at it.  The people who wish to hear such a thing know where to go to find it.  The rest of us are not going to be convinced, swayed, or saved by your quoting of the bible.  Save your keystrokes for commenting on games that you enjoy.

Alynn, have you ever tried going to any clubs that are specifically for people who are looking for alternative relationships?  There's got to be a few about.

Kinoko!  Why I never!  I'm married with a kid and you're engaged!  I suggest you take JJ's good person test.  Because it taught me that if you covet anything ever you're going to hell.

Actually, it says that you're going to hell no matter what you answer...  Man, that test is depressing.
