Duh, we already had that.  Don't you remember all the hype about the PS2's uparalleled Emotion-Engine?  Yeah... neither did game developers.

Similarly, while the physics cards are neat for the new types of gameplay they could allow, I predict that even if they become common place, gameplay won't change.  Developers will just use them so they can add another bullet-point to the back of the game box:

-Exploding crates splinter and fly through the air with realistic physics!

-Dead bodies flop around with "Rag-Doll Physics Mach 2" (tm)

or

-That guy's clothes move like they're real and stuff!

I only wish that developers (and publishers) would care more about substance than style.

'cause I'm sure no one's ever thought of this gem:

Alright.  It's miles long and I haven't really the time to polish it up any more.  So here it be:

"A Long Procession is Brought to an End When a Black Silhouette Appears on the Horizon"

That's great news!  Thanks, SSH.  I hope three months worth of Independent Adventuring is coming soon.

You're definitely going to want to post the correct link to your website.

it is without a doubt sales of such a thing these days is unconvincing.

I'm sure the people who still make boat loads of money releasing shareware games would disagree with you.

Of course those shareware games are all in casual games, not adventure.

Posted this once before, but couldn't hurt to do it again:

I see.  Personally, I would suggest "Indiana Jones and the Crown of Salmon."  I'd download that.

Before you go any further with this, I just have to make sure:  Don't you mean "Solomon" rather than "Salomon"

Or possibly "Salmon".

Really?  Oh... errr... I knew that.  Cool.

Here ya go!

EDIT: Reading this again when I'm not five minutes from sleep indicates that these two topics ARE, in fact, different.  Similar.  But different.

If a game cost the same as a double-shot mocha, people would associate low cost with low quality and pass it over.  Unless of course you've already gotten them hooked with an introductory episode, at which point, they'd almost certainly pay more.  I agree with Alacron's point three.   People are more discouraged by the hassle associated with paying than they by parting with the money.  A $15 dollar price tag would probably be more succesful.

On a side note, keep an eye on Manifesto Games.  I really think Greg Costikyan has a good idea going here.  Something that could make a lot of money for independent game makers.  If I ever make a game that would be worth a price tag, I'd look their way.

I think you should decide whether or not you want to use the black outline.  Using it half the time and not using it the other half makes a very uneven image.  Compare the pillars on either side of the stage.

If you keep the black lines, don't let the light-grey cord on stage intersect like that.

The base of the pillars on the left side are lined up with the dark grey portion of the square while the base of the pillar on the right is not.

Why are there two pillars on the left and one on the right?  I would think that it would be symmetrical.

The dark-grey area extends a little bit further than the stage on the left side, but is lined up(ish) with the right side of the stage.  Again, I would expect symmetry.

Also, either the right side of the stage or the right side of the dark-grey streed is not in proper perspective.

Sorry if I offended you.  It was very mature of you to avoid an escalating argument and I viewed it as a cheap copout.  My bad.  But don't get so offended by some idiot who jumps into an argument with a catch phrase from a crappy year-old movie.

Just make sure you do at least read his post.  It contained some vital information that you have proven yourself to be ignorant of -- information that might come in handy when choosing what not to say the next time you do find yourself in such a debate.

And c'mon, the "I don't know enough to even bother talking to you" was a pretty funny line!

Again, sorry.  But chill out.  No need to condemn me to hell...

Well, none of my friends or neighbors speak English.  So, posting here on the CL would be doing exactly that.

Thanks for your comments though!

Awesome.  I fixed it up.  Thanks Steve! That was a big help.

Any other comments or critiques from anyone would be quite helpful!

Thanks for that.  I'm fixing those typos right now.  And the thirty-eight was left over from before I changed it to six.  Good catch there.

Could you point me in the direction of the past tense?

Thanks!

EDIT: I updated the file fixing those few mistakes, but I still can't find the past tense you're talking about.  It's probably just because I've been staring at this story for so long that I've become blind to its problems...

The three Governesses and their daughters undertake a long journey into the desert to kill a child who is prophesized to bring destruction to the golden city.   Their journey is about to come to a sudden end.

I wrote this up for the Monthly story contest and there are about five days left to polish it up, so I wanted some imput.  I'm confident with the story and its construction but I'm not confident with the actual writing part.  I'm particularly worried about my ability to help the reader keep the six characters straight.  And while you're reading, make sure I keep the proper tense throughout.

Here it is.  It's around ten pages.

"A Long Procession is Brought to an End When a Black Silhouette Appears on the Horizon"
(an epic story needs an epic title, right?)

.doc format
.txt format

Any critiques are welcome.  Thanks!

Big thanks for the heads up!!!  I'll have to wait until I get home to watch it because it wont work through the proxy at work.  But a few hours wait is nothing compared to the amount of time I'm going to have to wait to see the rest of this movie.  It isn't even scheduled for release in Japan at all!  I may have to wait for the DVD and have that shipped from the states...  Really bummed about that.

And Scummbuddy, the Serenity NOW thread is completely devoid of movie spoilers.  It's a safe read.  Just people (like me) arguing over the quality of the series.
