Hey, at least I nominated you for your excellent documentation of the AGS awards.
#984
I think I'll stick in my votes.

Andail
I felt that I gained quite a bit of insight on the two characters just from the small scene of their lives.  I quite liked the ending.

Cameron
So simple, yet so true.

KhrisMUC
Very cute and very funny.  And a nice interpretation of the theme!

Ok, five days are up.  Seventeen great entries, thanks guys and gals!

This contest is open for voting.  Please list your top 3 ministories along with a short reason why you liked each one.

Voting will be open for 48 hours from this post at which point I will name the winner.

It may have.  It may have.  ;)

Gonna try and fool around with the rules to find the best way to run this interesting new activity.  I decided to try to finish the whole shebang up in a week and in only one round.  We'll see how that goes.  Also, I'm going to add a theme:

Gender-benders

For this round, you must write a story told from the point of view of someone of the opposite gender, or at least with someone of the opposite gender as the main character.  So boys, your main character has to be a girl.  Girls, you've got the guys.  Let's see who can best get into the mind of someone of the other sex.

Rules:

-An entry may be of no more than 55 words.  Since a title can help convey the story, if your story has a title, it counts towards those 55 words.

-Each person can enter only one story.

-Voting will start in five days (120 hours) from this post, which should be plenty of time.

-Voting will last for 48 hours.  Each voter will name his/her top 3 entries along with a short reason why.  (No need to rank your votes)

-The top vote getter at the end of the voting period will be declared champion and may start the next round (and screw with the rules as they see fit!).

Auriond is a girl?  Wow.  I did not know that... and I even worked with her for a bit for my latest blog post!  Apologies Auriond!  I guess in this forum you just assume...

This is almost as embarrassing as that time I thought Ivy was a girl.  But in my defense, he does look mildly feminine in all his pictures.

I had hoped Auriond would still jump in.  Not sure if he noticed.  I sent him a PM

Very true Andail.  I apologize if anyone feels the people who wrote multiple stories had an unfair advantage.  Luckily, no one wins anything!  Now excuse me, while I steal the victory!

Three boys sat atop the great banyan tree outside the village.  The first boy looked up to the mountains and saw adventure.  The second boy looked down to the sea and saw freedom.   The third boy, thinking of his home and family in the town below, looked back at his companions and saw fools.

But to be fair, Tuomas, all the votes for me were for the same entry.  Though I agree, the next one should place a stipulation on the number of entries.  I was actually expecting to have to declare one an official entry and have  the rest be just for fun.  And this competition definitely was fun.  Good idea Andail.

I'll contribute my final round entry as soon as I think it up!

How long do we have?

Geez, this is tough!

No order:

Lionmonkey's furry thing - This was easily one of my favorites.  A fun and twisted little fairy tale.

Nihilist's smoking alone - I quite liked the writing on this one.

Colxfile's Brownian motion - It's funny 'cause it's true.

Auriond's blindness - Again, great writing.  And touching.

LimpingFish's bacon - I loved the imagery of this one.  I felt like I was there.  And all with only a few words!

Heartwarming tributes from Best Buy

The priest spoke.  The mourners cried.  The gravedigger lowered the body.

As the last shovelful of dirt fell upon the shallow grave, the priest, the mourners, and the gravedigger -- at this funeral, all one man -- looked nervously around the woods.  He headed off into the darkness to wash the dirt and blood from his hands.

Why are these all so morose?  :P

Snarky said what I was trying to get at here.  I don't think that the producers are going to do anything more than what amounts to acknowledging that this is perhaps Ledger's last film and that is far from the crass exploitation that you seem to be suggesting will be taking place.

I was referring to how your post seemed to be be expressing shock or disgust that Hollywood would do such a thing.  Like "And of course those money grubbing bastards will still release the movie, thereby shitting all over Ledger's grave." But maybe I interpreted it wrong.   ;) :P

I still disagree with the statement about using his death to hype the movie.

This is truly awful.  The guy didn't have any history of substance abuse as far as I know, so to me it's quite shocking.  I was gutted when I opened up my daily news aggregator this morning and saw "Heath Ledger dead" right at the top.  The guy really was a fantastic actor.

And the worst part of it, to me, is that he's leaving behind a two year old daughter.  Having one of those myself, even though he was separated from the mother of the girl, I can't imagine that anyone but the most selfish person would ever do that on purpose, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for now and assuming that this was a terrible accident.

And of course they'll release the new Batman, movie, Darth.  No studio is going to can a 90% complete hundred-million dollar project for any reason, and you'd be silly to think that Heath Ledger would want that.  As for using his death to hype a movie, yes, the fact that his death is going to be reported by all the news sources is going to spread word of the movie a little bit further, and yes, I'm sure the director, producers, and co-stars will release some statements of grief and consolation which will get some attention from the media as well, but it's not like there are going to be commercials that say "Heath Ledger is dead!  Be sure to see his last movie, The Dark Night!"

I'm first and foremost sad for his daughter, and way way lower on the scale of worry lies Terry Gilliam's new film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in which Ledger was playing the second lead and was somewhere in mid-filming.  Gilliam's pet projects have historically been plagued with terrible luck and tragedies that get them canceled mid-production.
